Distributed Architectures for Intensive Urban Computing: A Case Study on Smart Lighting for Sustainable Cities
PublicationNew information and communication technologies have contributed to the development of the smart city concept. On a physical level, this paradigm is characterised by deploying a substantial number of different devices that can sense their surroundings and generate a large amount of data. The most typical case is image and video acquisition sensors. Recently, these types of sensors are found in abundance in urban spaces and are responsible...

Capon-like DoA estimator for rotating arrays
PublicationWe propose a nonparametric superresolution DoA estimator that is suitable for use with rotating arrays. The proposed method can be regarded as an extension of the Capon approach. We investigate its properties using computer simulations and present results obtained by processing of real world data.

Investigation of energy deposition and its optical imaging in polymer gel dosimeters
PublicationThis following chapter describes methods for verifying the absorbed dose during radiotherapy. Special attention is paid to the method using polymer-gel dosimeters, the dose reading of which is performed by means of Laser Computed Tomography. The chapter also includes considerations on alternative solutions for dosimetric measurements and various types of radiotherapy and their pros and cons. In addition, both the methods of structural...

PROBLEMS OF THE STARTING AND OPERATING OF HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS IN LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE (PART IV) MODELLING THE HEATING PROCESS AND DETERMINING THE SERVICEABILITY OF HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS DURING THE STARTING-UP IN LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
PublicationDesigners of hydraulically driven machines and devices are obliged to ensure during design process their high service life with taking into account their operational conditions. Some of the machines may be started in low ambient temperature and even in thermal shock conditions (due to delivering hot working medium to cold components). In order to put such devices into operation appropriate investigations, including experimental...

The evaluation of eGlasses eye tracking module as an extension for Scratch
PublicationIn this paper we present the possibility of using eGlasses eye tracking module as an extension for Scratch programming tool which is a visual programming language supporting computer skills learning. The main concept behind this project is to setup the interface for rapid interaction design. Eye tracking is a powerful tool for hands free communication but for that requires a dedicated software. This software is rarely tailored...
