Present state of sewage and wastewater treatment plants in the polish coast of Baltic Sea
PublicationIn the paper the state of art of wastewater management in four zones of Polish Baltic Sea coast: the Vistula Lagoon, the Bay of Gdansk and Bay of Puck, the open sea zone and the Szczecin Lagoon, is discussed. Hydrological characteristics of these four zones as well as characteristics and operation effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) located there, are presented.

FINANCIAL COMPARISON OF WESTERN BALKAN AND BALTIC SEA STATES USING THE CAMEL APPROACH
Publication• The aim - This article aims to compare the situation in the banking sectors of two regions, which due to their political and economic history have much in common. These are the Western Balkan States of Serbia, Croatia and Macedonia, and the Baltic Sea States of Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. • Methods - It presents three approaches to defining banking stability that can be found in the literature and carries out an initial...

Impact of Microphytobenthos Photosynthesis on the Characteristics of the Echo Signal from Baltic Sandy Sediments
PublicationThe understanding the influence of biological processes on the characteristics of the signals backscattered by the sea floor is crucial in the development of the hydroacoustical benthic habitat classification techniques. The impact of the microphytobenthos photosynthesis on the acoustical backscattering properties of the Atlantic sandy sediments was previously demonstrated by Holliday et al. (2004) and Wildman and Huettel (2012). To...

X-ray images of Baltic herring. Data analysis
Open Research DataBased on the developed methodology for the: (i) optimal method of catching, (ii) transporting and storing fish, (iii) measuring and (iv) analyzing X-rays images, the existing collection of X-ray images of Baltic herring, caught in October 2002 during the Swedish component of the Baltic International Acoustic Survey (BIAS) in the Baltic proper (ICES...

Sources and fate of microplastics in marine and beach sediments of the Southern Baltic Sea—a preliminary study
PublicationMicroplastics’ sources and fate in marine bottom and beach sediments of strongly polluted Baltic Sea have been investigated.Microplastics were extracted using sodium chloride. Their qualitative identification was conducted using micro-Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (μFT-IR).

Corrosion hazards and inhibitor protection in the seawater injection system on the Baltic sea rig
PublicationOil extraction efficiency in LOTOS Petrobaltic Company is increased by means of injection of seawater into an oilfield aquifer, which is implemented on the Baltic Beta rig, operating on the Baltic Sea. Operational experience has shown a significant degree of corrosion aggressiveness in the injected water, which necessitates frequent repairs of the seawater injection installation. Evaluation of the corrosion phenomena is crucial...

STUDY OF SEASONAL ACOUSTIC PROPERTIES OF SEA WATER IN SELECTED WATERS OF THE SOUTHERN BALTIC
PublicationClimate Research of the globe is a current task, in particular to confirm the general hypothesis of global warming associated with an increase in average temperature. The sea acoustic climate is derived from the concept of climate and refers to the conditions of propagation of acoustic waves in a particular basin. In this paper, the results of systematic measurements of temperature, salinity and velocity distributions of sound...

Airborne and mobile laser scanning in measurements of sea cliffs on the southern Baltic
PublicationMeasurements of sea cliffs performed using periodic surveying based on laser scanning is currently one of the fastest and most accurate solutions. Supported with the technology of satellite measurements using GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) positioning and photographic measurements with the use of aerial vehicle, they enable an effective monitoring of the sea cliffs affected by the erosion. In case of the coast of southern...

Każda konstrukcja wymaga indywidualnego opracowania koncepcji realizacji...

Surf Zone Currents in the Coastal Zone of the Southern Baltic Sea – a Modelling Approach
PublicationNearshore currents in a multi-bar non-tidal coastal zone environment located in the Southern Baltic Sea are studied. Spatiotemporal seaward-directed jets – so-called rip currents – are an important part of the nearshore current system. In previous research, Dudkowska et al. (2020) performed an extended modelling experiment to determine the wave conditions that are conducive to the emergence of rip currents. In this paper, the...

X-ray images of Baltic herring
Open Research DataA methodology for studying the geometric shape of Baltic herring swimbladders including the optimal way of catching, transporting and storing fish, the X-ray measurements and the X-ray image analysis, that does not change the natural shape of the fish swimbladder was developed. Fish for research was obtained in the area of the Polish coastal zone...

MAPPING SOUTH BALTIC NEAR-SHORE BATHYMETRY USING SENTINEL-2 OBSERVATIONS
PublicationOne of the most promising new applications of remote observation satellite systems (RO) is the near-shore bathymetry estimation based on spaceborn multispectral imageries. In recent years, many experiments aiming to estimate bathymetry in optically shallow water with the use of remote optical observations have been presented. In this paper, optimal models of satellite derived bathymetry (SDB) for relatively turbid waters of the...

Reliability-Based Stability Analysis of a Baltic Cliff by the Combined Response Surface Method
PublicationA simple, straightforward computational procedure was proposed, incorporating the Response Surface Method (RSM) linked with the standard Monte Carlo (MC) simulation method and the Point Estimate Method (PEM). PEM samples make it possible to analyse the sensitivity of the cliff’s stability to variation in subsoil parameters and to reduce the number of random variables of the problem. The proposed methods were tested in two cases:...

Long-term hindcast simulation of currents in the Baltic Sea
Open Research DataThe dataset contains the results of numerical modelling of currents over a period of 50 years (1958-2007) in the Baltic Sea . A long-term hindcast simulation was performed using a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model PM3D (Kowalewski and Kowalewska-Kalkowska, 2017), a new version of the M3D model (Kowalewski, 1997). The hydrodynamic model was coupled...
