Chained machine learning model for predicting load capacity and ductility of steel fiber–reinforced concrete beams
PublicationOne of the main issues associated with steel fiber–reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams is the ability to anticipate their flexural response. With a comprehensive grid search, several stacked models (i.e., chained, parallel) consisting of various machine learning (ML) algorithms and artificial neural networks (ANNs) were developed to predict the flexural response of SFRC beams. The flexural performance of SFRC beams under bending was...

Chapter 1. Modelling of temperature field of cylindrical pool boiling heating section
Sformułowano i rozwiązano zagadnienia brzegowe 1D, 2D ORAZ 3D. Przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych z zastosowaniem MES.

Evaluation of Machine Learning Methods for the Experimental Classification and Clustering of Higher Education Institutions
PublicationHigher education institutions have a big impact on the future of skills supplied on the labour market. It means that depending on the changes in labour market, higher education institutions are making changes to fields of study or adding new ones to fulfil the demand on labour market. The significant changes on labour market caused by digital transformation, resulted in new jobs and new skills. Because of the necessity of computer...

A Highly Scalable, Modular Architecture for Computer Aided Assessment e-Learning Systems
PublicationIn this chapter, the authors propose a novel e-learning system, dedicated strictly to knowledge assessment tasks. In its functioning it utilizes web-based technologies, but its design differs radically from currently popular e-learning solutions which rely mostly on thin-client architecture. The authors' research proved that such architecture, while well suited for didactic content distribution systems is ill-suited for knowledge...

An influence of the ship's block coefficient implementation on the evaluation of it's hull girder bending
PublicationAn influence of the three different ways of implementation ship's block coefficient δ (three geometrical models) on the stresses due to wave bending moment have been investigated. Two models have been applied and compared: beam one (description of the shape usingparameters) and FEM shell model (direct representation of the shape). The outcomes have been compared to Polish Register of Shipping (PRS) rules. The results show that...

Publicly available lecture webcasts - e-learning or promotion tool? case study
PublicationThis paper aims to show how universities interact with Internet users by webcasting selected courses. Paper has exploratory case-study character, presenting example of Berkeley Webcast initiative of University of California, Berkeley, webcasting undergraduate courses and on-campus events. On the base of short introduction to webcasting usage as an e-learning and promotional tool, the analysis of 3 purposely chosen different courses...

Sensitivity analysis of buckling loads of bisymmetric I-section columns with bracing elements

Evaluation of Asphalt Mixture Low-Temperature Performance in Bending Beam Creep Test
PublicationLow-temperature cracking is one of the most common road pavement distress types in Poland. While bitumen performance can be evaluated in detail using bending beam rheometer (BBR) or dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) tests, none of the normalized test methods gives a comprehensive representation of low-temperature performance of the asphalt mixtures. This article presents the Bending Beam Creep test performed at temperatures from −20...

Tacit Knowledge Sharing and Creativity. How to Derive Innovation from Project Teams?
PublicationModern companies are increasingly likely to work in a project management environment, which ensures their success in the implementation of innovation. The aim of the study is to prove that tacit knowledge is a mediator for creativity and project performance. Creativity as one of the crucial sources of innovation is stimulated by tacit knowledge. Bearing this fact in mind, the authors studied relations between tacit knowledge, creativity...

Trust, Collaborative Culture and Tacit Knowledge Sharing in Project Management–a Relationship Model
PublicationThe aim of this research is to study the relationship between Trust, Collaborative Culture, and Tacit Knowledge Sharing in Project Management as a source of Team Creativity in the context of delivering value through knowledge. For this purpose authors conducted a study of 514 Polish professionals with different functions and experience in managing projects in construction industry. The data collected during the study has been analysed...

Learning and memory processes in autonomous agents using an intelligent system of decision-making
PublicationThis paper analyzes functions and structures of the memory that is an indispensable part of an Intelligent System of Decision-making (ISD), developed as a universal engine for autonomous robotics. A simplified way of processing and coding information in human cognitive processes is modelled and adopted for the use in autonomous systems. Based on such a knowledge structure, an artificial model of reality representation and a model...

AUTOMATIC LEARNING OF STRATEGY AND RULES IN CARD GAMES USING IMAGE FROM CAMERA
PublicationBelow work tries to answer a question: if it is possible to replace real human with computer system in social games. As a subject for experiments, card games were chosen, because they require a lot of player interaction (playing and taking cards), while their rules are easy to present in form of clear list of statements. Such a system, should allow real players to play without constant worrying about guiding or helping computer...
