Cloning and characterization of a novel cold-active glycoside hydrolase family 1 enzyme with beta-glucosidase, beta-fucosidase and beta-galactosidase activities.
PublicationBackground: Cold-active enzymes, sourced from cold-adapted organisms, are characterized by high catalytic efficiencies at low temperatures compared with their mesophilic counterparts, which have poor activity. This property makes them advantageous for biotechnology applications as it: (i) saves energy costs, (ii) shortens the times for processes operated at low temperatures, (iii) protects thermosensitive substrates or products...

Fe3–xInSnxO6 (x = 0, 0.25, or 0.5): A Family of Corundum Derivatives with Sn-Induced Polarization and Above Room Temperature Antiferromagnetic Ordering
PublicationThree new double corundum derivative compounds, Fe3−xInSnxO6 (x = 0. 0.25, or 0.5), were synthesized at high pressure and temperature (6 GPa and 1400− 1450 °C). All of the compounds order antiferromagnetically well above room temperature (TN = 608, 532, and 432 K for x = 0, 0.25, and 0.5, respectively). The x = 0 phase crystallizes as centrosymmetric R3̅c, but the inclusion of closed-shell d10 Sn4+ induces x = 0.25 and 0.5 to crystallize...

PublicationSingle crystals of RE3Ni5Al19 series (RE = Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) are grown using the Al self-flux method. The crystal structure is examined by both single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction. Physical properties are studied for the first time for RE3Ni5Al19 (RE = Y, Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) by means of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. Complex magnetic behaviors, with...

(CsX)Cu5O2(PO4)2 (X = Cl, Br, I): A Family of Cu2+ S = 1/2 Compounds with Capped-Kagomé Networks Composed of OCu4 Units
PublicationThree new salt inclusion compounds (CsX)Cu5O2(PO4)2 (X = Cl, Br, I), phosphate analogues of the kagomé mineral averievite, are reported. Their crystal structures are composed of trigonal networks of corner-sharing OCu4 anion-centered tetrahedra, forming capped-kagomé planes, which can also be regarded as two-dimensional slices along the [111] direction of a pyrochlore lattice. Magnetization and heat capacity measurements reveal...

Facile preparation of extremely photoactive boron-doped TiO2 nanotubes arrays
PublicationDoping of TiO2 nanotube arrays with boron was realized via electrochemical treatment of as-anodized titania immersed in electrolyte containing boric acid. The photoactivity of doped and pure titania was examined by means of photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic response under UV-vis irradiation. The results showed that photocurrent density of B-TNTs is remarkably higher (7.5 times) than density of pure TiO2 nanotube arrays. Furthermore,...

PublicationThis article deals with the topic of designing an efficient internal transport system in a 1200 m tall multifunctional building called the “World’s Tower” due to its symbolism and specific architectural form. The building comprises four towers whose bases are 75 m/75 m long each and whose height is 1200 m. Two of the towers are located along the north-south axis while the two others along the east-west one. The towers are joined...

A facile strategy for reclaiming discarded graphite and harnessing the rate capabilities of graphite anodes
PublicationGraphite negative electrodes are unbeaten hitherto in lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) due to their unique chemical and physical properties. Thus, the increasing scarcity of graphite resources makes smart recycling or repurposing of discarded graphite particularly imperative. However, the current recycling techniques still need to be improved upon with urgency. Herein a facile and efficient hydrometallurgical process is reported to...

Aminy w środowisku - niebezpieczeństwo czy jego naturalny element?
PublicationA lot of amines and their compounds are used in the industry. First of all they are used for the preparation of medicines, plant protection agents, fertilizers and plastics. Amines are also released into the environment as a result of natural biological processes such as the release of certain species of flowers to lure insects, and also biochemical breakdown of amino acids in the protein during decomposition of organic matter. Unfortunately,...
