Homotopy invariance of the Conley index and local Morse homology in Hilbert spaces
PublicationIn this paper we introduce a new compactness condition — Property-(C) — for flows in (not necessary locally compact) metric spaces. For such flows a Conley type theory can be developed. For example (regular) index pairs always exist for Property-(C) flows and a Conley index can be defined. An important class of flows satisfying the this compactness condition are LS-flows. We apply E-cohomology to index pairs of LS-flows and obtain...

Morse cohomology in a Hilbert space via the Conley index
PublicationThe main theorem of this paper states that Morse cohomology groups in a Hilbert space are isomorphic to the cohomological Conley index. It is also shown that calculating the cohomological Conley index does not require finite-dimensional approximations of the vector field. Further directions are discussed.

A note on the Morse homology for a class of functionals in Banach spaces involving the 2p-area functional
PublicationIn this paper we show how to construct Morse homology for an explicit class of functionals involving the 2p-area functional. The natural domain of definition of such functionals is the Banach space W_0^{1,2p}(\Omega), where p > n/2 and \Omega \subet R^n is a bounded domain with sufficiently smooth boundary. As W_0^{1,2p}(\Omega) is not isomorphic to its dual space, critical points of such functionals cannot be non-degenerate...

Bernstein-type theorem for ϕ-Laplacian
PublicationIn this paper we obtain a solution to the second-order boundary value problem of the form \frac{d}{dt}\varPhi'(\dot{u})=f(t,u,\dot{u}), t\in [0,1], u\colon \mathbb {R}\to \mathbb {R} with Sturm–Liouville boundary conditions, where \varPhi\colon \mathbb {R}\to \mathbb {R} is a strictly convex, differentiable function and f\colon[0,1]\times \mathbb {R}\times \mathbb {R}\to \mathbb {R} is continuous and satisfies a suitable growth...

Equivariant Morse equation
PublicationThe paper is concerned with the Morse equation for flows in a representation of a compact Lie group. As a consequence of this equation we give a relationship between the equivariant Conley index of an isolated invariant set of the flow given by x˙ = − ∇f(x) and the gradient equivariant degree of ∇f. Some multiplicity results are also presented.

Morse inequalities via Conley index theory
PublicationThe relation known as the Morse inequalities can be extended to a more general setting of flows on a locally compact metric spaces (Conley index) as well as dynamical systems on Hilbert spaces (LS-index). This paper is a discourse around this extension. Except the part concerning the LS-index the material is self-contained and has a character of a survey.

Persistent homology as a new method of the assessment of heart rate variability
PublicationHeart rate variability (hrv) is a physiological phenomenon of the variation in the length of the time interval between consecutive heartbeats. In many cases it could be an indicator of the development of pathological states. The classical approach to the analysis of hrv includes time domain methods and frequency domain methods. However, attempts are still being made to define new and more effective hrv assessment tools. Persistent...

Activation of the C=P bond in phosphanylphosphaalkenes C=P–P bond system) in the reaction with nucleophilic reagents: MeLi, nBuLi and tBuLi
PublicationThree reactions of phosphanylphosphaalkene (1) with nucleophiles were performed to activate the diphosphorus monomer. We observed similar results in the reactions with MeLi and nBuLi, in which the P–P bond is cleavaged and triphosphorus systems [P(Me)2–CH(biph)–CH(biph)–P–(PtBu 2)]- (1a'') and [P(nBu)2–CH(biph)–CH(biph)–P–(PtBu 2)]- (1b''), respectively, are formed depending on the nucleophilic reagent (biph ¼ biphenyl). In the...

Cardinal regenerative features of the MRL mouse
PublicationIn this review, we discuss recent studies relating to major features of adult MRL mouse biology that contribute to the regenerative responses seen. These include an increased inflammatory cell profile, a unique glycolytic metabolic state typically found during embryogenesis, and a cell cycle phenotype of DNA damage and G2/M arrest. These traits have been found in other mammalian and non-mammalian regenerative systems. How these...

On-line P-coloring of graphs
PublicationFor a given induced hereditary property P, a P-coloring of a graph G is an assignment of one color to each vertex such that the subgraphs induced by each of the color classes have property P. We consider the effectiveness of on-line P-coloring algorithms and give the generalizations and extensions of selected results known for on-line proper coloring algorithms. We prove a linear lower bound for the performance guarantee function...
