A new approach to design of weather disruption-tolerant wireless mesh networks
PublikacjaWireless Mesh Networks, offering transmission rates of 1–10 Gb/s per a millimeter-wave link (utilizing the 71–86 GHz band) seem to be a promising alternative to fiber optic backbone metropolitan area networks because of significantly lower costs of deployment and maintenance. However, despite providing high transmission rates in good weather conditions, high-frequency wireless links are very susceptible to weather disruptions....

A Novel Bitrate Adaptation Method for Heterogeneous Wireless Body Area Networks
PublikacjaIn the article, a novel bitrate adaptation method for data streams allocation in heterogeneous Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) is presented. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was compared with other known algorithms of data stream allocation using computer simulation. A dedicated simulator has been developed using results of measurements in the real environment. The usage of the proposed adaptive data streams allocation...

Mitigating Traffic Remapping Attacks in Autonomous Multi-hop Wireless Networks
PublikacjaMultihop wireless networks with autonomous nodes are susceptible to selfish traffic remapping attacks (TRAs). Nodes launching TRAs leverage the underlying channel access function to receive an unduly high Quality of Service (QoS) for packet flows traversing source-to-destination routes. TRAs are easy to execute, impossible to prevent, difficult to detect, and harmful to the QoS of honest nodes. Recognizing the need for providing...

Eventual Convergence of the Reputation-Based Algorithm in IoT Sensor Networks
PublikacjaUncertainty in dense heterogeneous IoT sensor networks can be decreased by applying reputation-inspired algorithms, such as the EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) algorithm, which is widely used in social networks. Despite its popularity, the eventual convergence of this algorithm for the purpose of IoT networks has not been widely studied, and results of simulations are often taken in lieu of the more rigorous proof....

Gesture Recognition With the Linear Optical Sensor and Recurrent Neural Networks
PublikacjaIn this paper, the optical linear sensor, a representative of low-resolution sensors, was investigated in the multiclass recognition of near-field hand gestures. The recurrent neural network (RNN) with a gated recurrent unit (GRU) memory cell was utilized as a gestures classifier. A set of 27 gestures was collected from a group of volunteers. The 27 000 sequences obtained were divided into training, validation, and test subsets....

Deep Learning-Based LOS and NLOS Identification in Wireless Body Area Networks
PublikacjaIn this article, the usage of deep learning (DL) in ultra-wideband (UWB) Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) is presented. The developed approach, using channel impulse response, allows higher efficiency in identifying the direct visibility conditions between nodes in off-body communication with comparison to the methods described in the literature. The effectiveness of the proposed deep feedforward neural network was checked on...

On the fast BSS transition algorithms in the IEEE 802.11r local area wireless networks
PublikacjaHandover performance is critical to support multimedia services that are becoming increasingly available over the wireless devices. The high transition delay can be unaccepted for such services or can be a source of disruption on the session. On the other side, IEEE 802.11 standard is being extended with new functionalities. Security and QoS features, included in recent IEEE 802.11-2007 standard, add management frames that are...

Router Selfishness in Community Wireless Mesh Networks: Cross-Layer Benefits and Harms
W pracy przebadano symulacyjnie wybrane aspekty środowiska mesh uzasadniające podjęcie ataków egoistycznych i zidentyfikowano trzy: gęstość rozmieszczenia i położenie routerów oraz warstwa OSI...

A Reputation Scheme to Discourage Selfish QoS Manipulation in Two-Hop Wireless Relay Networks
PublikacjaIn wireless networks, stations can improve their received quality of service (QoS) by handling packets of source flows with higher priority. Additionally, in cooperative relay networks, the relays can handle transit flows with lower priority. We use game theory to model a two-hop relay network where each of the two involved stations can commit such selfish QoS manipulation. We design and evaluate a reputation-based incentive scheme...

INFLUENCE OF A VERTEX REMOVING ON THE CONNECTED DOMINATION NUMBER – APPLICATION TO AD-HOC WIRELESS NETWORKS
PublikacjaA minimum connected dominating set (MCDS) can be used as virtual backbone in ad-hoc wireless networks for efficient routing and broadcasting tasks. To find the MCDS is an NP- complete problem even in unit disk graphs. Many suboptimal algorithms are reported in the literature to find the MCDS using local information instead to use global network knowledge, achieving an important reduction in complexity. Since a wireless network...

Distributed protection against non-cooperative node behavior in multi-hop wireless networks
PublikacjaAn important security problem in today's distributed data networks is the prevention of non-cooperative behavior i.e., attacks consisting in the modification of standard node operation to gain unfair advantage over other system nodes. Such a behavior is currently feasible in many types of computer networks whose communication protocols are designed to maximize the network performance assuming full node cooperation. Moreover, it...

Wireless Link Selection Methods for Maritime Communication Access Networks—A Deep Learning Approach
PublikacjaIn recent years, we have been witnessing a growing interest in the subject of communication at sea. One of the promising solutions to enable widespread access to data transmission capabilities in coastal waters is the possibility of employing an on-shore wireless access infrastructure. However, such an infrastructure is a heterogeneous one, managed by many independent operators and utilizing a number of different communication...

Nodal cooperation equilibrium analysis in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks with a reputation system
PublikacjaMotivated by the concerns of cooperation security, this work examines selected principles of state-of-the-art reputation systems for multi-hop ad hoc networks and their impact upon optimal strategies for rational nodes. An analytic framework is proposed and used for identification of effective cooperation-enforcement schemes. It is pointed out that optimum rather than high reputation can be expected to be sought by rational nodes.
