  • Thermo-elastic non-linear analysis of multilayered plates and shells

    Publikacja

Geometrically nonlinear FEM analysis of multilayered composite plates and shells is performed in order to resolve the stability problem of the structures being under the influence of temperature field. The Riks-Wempner-Ramm algorithm with a specially modified multi-choice unloading condition has been implemented in authors’ numerical code. As the representation of multilayered medium the Equivalent Single Layer approach with the...

  • Heave Plates with Holes for Floating Offshore Wind Turbines

The paper presents an innovative solution which is heave plates with holes. The long-known heave plates are designed to damp the heave motion of platforms. They are most often used for Spar platforms. The growing interest in this type of platform as supporting structures for offshore wind turbines makes it necessary to look for new solutions. Based on the available literature and the authors’ own research, it was concluded that...

  • Numerical assessment of ultimate strength of severe corroded stiffened plates

    Publikacja

    - ENGINEERING STRUCTURES - Rok 2018

The objective of this work is to investigate numerically (using the non-linear FEM and the approach stipulated by the Common Structural Rules) the severe nonuniform corrosion degradation effect on the ultimate strength of stiffened plates and compare the results to the already published experimental works. Different factors governing structural behavior of corroded stiffened plates are investigated, such as corrosion degradation level,...

  • Analysis of ultimate compressive strength of cracked plates with the use of DOE techniques

    Publikacja

    - Polish Maritime Research - Rok 2020

The objective of this work is to investigate the structural compressive response of plates with locked cracks accounting for all relevant factors and correlation between them. The nonlinear FE model considering both geometric and material nonlinearities is employed herein, and the FE model of the structural response of intact plates is validated with the available experimental data. In the common studies, based on One Factor at...

  • On the Bending of Multilayered Plates Considering Surface Viscoelasticity

    Publikacja

We discuss the bending resistance of multilayered plates taking into account surface/interfacial viscoelasticity. Within the linear surface viscoelasticity we introduce the surface/interfacial stresses linearly dependent on the history of surface strains. In order to underline the surface viscoelasticity contribution to the bending response we restrict ourselves to the elastic behaviour in the bulk. Using the correspondence principle...

  • Sounding of Layered Marine Bottom - Model Investigations

The necessary actions connected with interpretations of examining of physical properties of sea bottom structure is developing of proper procedure of modeling of the layered structure. The implementation of the acoustic waves for the determination of seabed stratification requires a precise diagnosis of the topic from both the theoretical and practical side. Little differences between the parameters of sediments, as well as irregular...

  • On Nonlinear Dynamic Theory of Thin Plates with Surface Stresses

    Publikacja

    - Rok 2019

We discuss the modelling of dynamics of thin plates considering surface stresses according to Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity. Taking into account the surface mass density we derive the two-dimensional (2D) equations of motion. For the reduction of the three-dimensional (3D) motion equations to the 2D ones we use the trough-the-thickness integration procedure. As a result, the 2D dynamic parameters of the plate depend not only...

  • Optimization of the distance between the vertical plates in the convective air heat exchanger

This paper examines the influence of the distance between vertical plates on the intensity of free convective heat transfer along with the optimization of this distance. Experimental tests were carried out for one model channel of such an heat exchanger with widths , 0.085 and 0.18 m. This channel, open at the top and sides, was formed by two isothermal symmetrically heated parallel vertical plates of dimensions m and m. The influence...

  • Generation of random fields to reflect material and geometric imperfections of plates and shells

    Publikacja

The paper covers two patterns of random field generation: conditional acceptance – rejection method and Karhunen – Loève expansion. The generation of two-dimensional random fields is essential in plates and shells analysis, allowing for a relevant limit and critical state assessment of geometrically and ma-terially imperfect structures. The features of both generation methods dedicate them to selected problems.
