Comparison of noise reduction methods in radiometric correlation measurements of two-phase liquid-gas flows
PublikacjaTwo-phase liquid-gas flows occur frequently in the mining, energy, chemical, and petrochemical industries. One of non-contact methods used to analyse these flows is the gamma ray absorption method. However, the signals received from radiation detectors contain a significant stochastic noise, which makes them difficult to analyse. The article describes four methods of noise reduction in cross-correlation measurements of water-air...

Measurements of Dispersed Phase Velocity in Two-Phase Flows in Pipelines Using Gamma-Absorption Technique and Phase of the Cross-Spectral Density Function
PublikacjaThis paper concerns the application of the gamma radiation absorption method in the measurements of dispersed phase velocity in two-phase flows: liquid–gas flow in a horizontal pipe- line and liquid–solid particles in a vertical pipe. Radiometric sets containing two linear 241Am gamma radiation sources and two NaI(Tl) scintillation detectors were used in the research. Due to the stochastic nature of the signals obtained from the...

Measurements of Two-phase Flows in Pipelines Using Radioisotopes and Statistical Signal Processing
PublikacjaThis paper presents an application of radiotracers and gamma absorption method in two-phase flow measurements in pipelines. Two different methods were implemented to analysis of acquired signals. Investigated methods are based on the cross-correlation function and the phase of the cross-spectral density distribution. The examples presented in the article illustrate the application of the radioisotopes to evaluation of liquid-gas...

Radioisotope measurements of the liquid-gas flow in the horizontal pipeline using phase method
PublikacjaThe paper presents application of the gamma-absorption method to a two-phase liquid-gas flow investigation in a horizontal pipeline. The water-air mixture was examined by a set of two Am-241 radioactive sources and two NaI(Tl) scintillation probes. For analysis of the electrical signals obtained from detectors the cross-spectral density function (CSDF) was applied. Results of the gas phase average velocity measurements for CSDF...

Investigation of Liquid–Gas Flow in a Horizontal Pipeline Using Gamma-Ray Technique and Modified Cross-Correlation
PublikacjaThis article presents the application of the radioisotope absorption method in the study of two-phase water–air flow in a horizontal pipe. The measurement principle and the test stand are briefly described. The main part of the article presents the signal analysis methods applied to data obtained from scintillation detectors. Because these signals are mostly stochastic waveforms, they were analyzed statistically using the cross-correlation...

Characterization of fracture process in polyolefin fibre-reinforced concrete using ultrasonic waves and digital image correlation
PublikacjaThis study explores the monitoring of the fracture process in concrete beams and aims to characterize the evolution of damage in polyolefin fibre-reinforced concrete beams by utilizing the integrated application of two measurement techniques, digital image correlation and ultrasonic testing. The interpretation of registered wave time histories data was provided by the calculation of the magnitude-phase-composite metrics. An efficient...

Low-energy positron scattering from gas-phase pyrimidine: A quantum treatment of the dynamics and a comparison with experiments
PublikacjaWe are reporting detailed quantum scattering calculations that describe the diffusion of a beam of low-energy positrons interacting with the pyrimidine target as a gas-phase partner. The calculations have employed an essentially ab initio model for the short-range correlation interaction and for the electrostatic interaction of an impinging positron and the electron+nuclear structure of the target molecule at its equilibrium geometry.

Time Delay Estimation in Two-Phase Flow Investigation Using the γ-Ray Attenuation Technique.
PublikacjaTime delay estimation is an important research question having many applications in a range of technologies. Measurement of a two-phase flow in a pipeline or an open channel using radioisotopes is an example of such application. For instance, the determination of velocity of dispersed phase in that case is based on estimation of the time delay between two stochastic signals provided by scintillation probes. The proper analysis...

Investigations of the Methods of Time Delay Measurement of Stochastic Signals Using Cross-correlation with the Hilbert Transform
PublikacjaThe article presents the results of simulation studies of four methods of estimating time delay for random signals using cross-correlation with the Hilbert Transform. Selected models of mutually delayed stochastic signals were used in the simulations, corresponding to the signals obtained from scintillation detectors in radioisotope measurements of liquid-gas two-phase flow. Standard deviations of the values of the individual functions...

Correlation between charge density waves and antiferromagnetism in Nd1−xGdxNiC2 solid solutions
PublikacjaWe report a study on the evolution of a charge density wave and antiferromagnetism in the series of the polycrystalline solid solution Nd1−xGdxNiC2 (0 _ x _ 1) by means of magnetic and transport properties measurements. The experimental results reveal the violation of the de Gennes law and a strong correlation between the Peierls, Néel, and Curie-Weiss temperatures, which strongly suggests a cooperative interaction between the...

Pressure drop of HFE7000 and HFE7100 during flow condensation in minichannels
PublikacjaAttention is focused on the issues of flow resistance and pressure drop of perspective refrigeration fluids during condensation in the two-phase flow in minichannels. The case of the flow through a cylindrical single channel of 2.3 mm inner diameter was carefully analyzed. Pressure drop tests have been performed in diabatic flow conditions. The effect of heat flux, mass flux, vapour quality and saturation temperature on the two-phase...

Electrical and mechanical characterization of two-phase alloys by means of scanning probe microscopy in dynamic impedance spectroscopy mode
PublikacjaDynamic impedance spectroscopy, evaluated for measuring non-stationary systems, was used in combination with scanning probe microscope. Using this approach, localized impedance measurements in the AFM contact mode could be carried out. Additionally, impedance–force curves were made at each phase of investigated materials to illustrate the relation between impedance and the force applied to a probe. Therefore, correlation of electrical...
