Application of the simplified models to inverse flood routing in upper Narew river(Poland)
PublikacjaW pracy przedstawiono rozwiązanie zagadnienia odwrotnej transformacji przepływów z zastosowaniem uproszczonych modeli. Zastosowano model fali kinematycznej oraz równanie retencji. W pierwszym przypadku równanie całkowano w kierunku malejącego czasu zaś w drugim w kierunku przeciwnym do przepływu. Wykazano, że obydwa podejścia są równoważne. Modele zastosowano dla górnego odcinka Narwi.

Monitoring Trends of Land Use and Land Cover Changes in Rajang River Basin
PublikacjaIn this study, the spatiotemporal changes in land use and land cover (LULC) were evaluated from 1992 to 2015 for the Rajang River Basin (RRB) located in the Sarawak State of Malaysia. The changes in water bodies cropped lands, and forests were assessed based on the available remotely sensed satellite data. Supervised classification with the Maximum-Likelihood-Algorithm technique was adopted for monitoring the LULC changes using...

THE METHOD OF MEASURING THE MEMBRANE COVER GEOMETRY USING LASER SCANNING AND SYNCHRONOUS PHOTOGRAMMETRY
PublikacjaThe authors present the experience and results of field studies carried out at the technical acceptance of Forest Opera (name in Polish: Opera Leśna) in Sopot (Poland). An unusual design of covering made in the form of “Sheerfill I” technical fabric membrane required spanned in the form of sails, required the use of terrestrial laser scanning. Such approach allowed for the fast and accurate record of the surface of individual panels...

Capacity of Surface Production of Band Sawing in Manufacture of Oak Floor Upper Layers
PublikacjaThin lamellae, corresponding to the layer components of structural glued members, i.e., 2-ply or 3-ply glued flooring, can be manufactured in re-sawing operations of kiln-dried wood blocks or in wet technologies, which currently seem to be more common because of the shorter drying time. The re-sawing process in wet technology is conducted on dedicated thin-cutting band sawing machines with stellite-tipped band saws. The goal of...

Seasonal and spatial differences in metal and metalloid concentrations in the snow cover of Hansbreen, Svalbard
PublikacjaMetals and metalloids in snow on glaciers, depending on the season of deposition, may come from various sources: local rock dust (erosion of the geological substratum), marine aerosol, local human activity (e.g. fuel combustion, waste incineration) and long-range atmospheric transport. Hansbreen glacier, located close to the Polish Polar Station in Svalbard, is a perfect site to study metals and metalloids: it has complex geological...

Hydrological responses to large-scale changes in land cover of river watershed: Review
PublikacjaDespite many studies on the hydrological responses to forest cover changes in micro and mesoscale watersheds, the hydrological responses to forest cover alterations and associated mechanisms through the large spatial scale of the river watershed have not been comprehensively perceived. This paper thus reviews a wide range of available scientific evidence concerning the impacts exerted by the forest removal on precipitation, water...

The effective elastic properties of human trabecular bone may be approximated using micro-finite element analyses of embedded volume elements.
PublikacjaBoundary conditions (BCs) and sample size affect the measured elastic properties of cancellous bone. Samples too small to be representative appear stiffer under kinematic uniform BCs (KUBCs) than under periodicity-compatible mixed uniform BCs (PMUBCs). To avoid those effects, we propose to determine the effective properties of trabecular bone using an embedded configuration. Cubic samples of various sizes (2.63, 5.29, 7.96, 10.58...

Asynchronous time difference of arrival (ATDOA) method
PublikacjaA new method for a location service in the asynchronous wireless sensor networks is outlined. This method, which is called asynchronous time difference of arrival (ATDOA), enables calculation of the position of a mobile node without knowledge of relative time differences (RTDs) between measuring sensors. The ATDOA method is based on the measurement of time difference of arrival between the node and the same sensor at the discrete...

Time frequency representation of Doppler boold flow recordings
Dane BadawczeVital signals registration plays a grate role in biomedical engineering and education process. Well acquired data allow future engineers to observe certain physical phenomenons as well learn how to correctly process and interpret the data. This data set was designed for students to learn about Doppler phenomena and to demonstrate correctly and incorrectly...

Share of people working in the enterprise sector by ownership sector at the end of 2016 (%).
Dane BadawczeThe dynamic development of small and medium-sized enterprises, which was observed in the past century - in particular in the past two decades - is the phenomenon of the development of the world economy intriguing many researchers and research centers. These figures present the share of workforce according to the ownership sector at the end of 2016.

A structure and design optimization of novel compact microscrip dual-band rat-race coupler with enhanced bandwidth
PublikacjaIn the letter, a topology of a novel compact wideband dual-band rat-race coupler has been presented along with its computationally efficient design optimization procedure. Reduction of the circuit size has been achieved by meandering transmission lines of the conventional circuit. At the same time, the number of independent geometry parameters has been increased so as to secure sufficient flexibility of the circuit, necessary in...

A Fail-Safe NVRAM Based Mechanism for Efficient Creation and Recovery of Data Copies in Parallel MPI Applications
PublikacjaThe paper presents a fail-safe NVRAM based mechanism for creation and recovery of data copies during parallel MPI application runtime. Specifically, we target a cluster environment in which each node has an NVRAM installed in it. Our previously developed extension to the MPI I/O API can take advantage of NVRAM regions in order to provide an NVRAM based cache like mechanism to significantly speed up I/O operations and allow to preload...

Finite element analysis on failure of reinforced concrete corner in sewage tank under opening bending moment
PublikacjaW artykule omówiono mechanizm uszkodzenia żelbetowego zbiornika ściekowego w narożniku ściany, który uległ uszkodzeniu podczas próby wypełnienia na skutek nadmiernych przemieszczeń poziomych ścian pod wpływem otwierającego momentu zginającego. Aby wyjaśnić przyczyny awarii, przeprowadzono kompleksowe obliczenia metodą elementów skończonych (MES) żelbetowego zbiornika w warunkach odkształcenia płaskiego. Beton zamodelowano za pomocą...

Nitrogen-Doped Diamond Film for Optical Investigation of Hemoglobin Concentration
PublikacjaIn this work we present the fabrication and characterization of a diamond film which can be utilized in the construction of optical sensors for the investigation of biological samples. We produced a nitrogen-doped diamond (NDD) film using a microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MWPECVD) system. The NDD film was investigated with the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman...

Electrical and noise responses of carbon nanotube networks enhanced by UV light for detection of organic gases (ethanol, acetone)
Dane BadawczeCarbon nanotube networks of different optical transparencies were investigated via resistance and 1/f noise measurements for detection of ethanol and acetone. The sensor resistive and noise responses were collected for dark and UV-assisted conditions, revealing the improvement in sensor sensitivity and limit of detection after applying UV light (275...
