A novel concept of negative CO2 emission power plant for utilization of sewage sludge
PublikacjaCarbon Capture and Storage (CSS) technology is considered an important “bridge technology”, allowing effective abatement of CO2 emissions for power units using fossil fuels. However, if biomass is used in a power plant, equipped with CCS system, negative CO2 emissions can be achieved. In practice, wide development of such technologies would enable not only reduction of CO2 emissions, but also reversal of the harm done so far. In...

A Theoretical and Experimental Study of Moderate Temperature Alfa Type Stirling Engines
PublikacjaThe Stirling engine is a device that allows conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy with relatively high efficiency. Existing commercial designs are mainly based on the usage of high temperature heat sources, whose availability from renewable or waste heat sources is significantly lower than that of moderate temperature sources. The paper presents the results of experimental research on a prototype alpha type Stirling...

Advanced Turbine Cycles with Organic Media
PublikacjaOrganic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants have become very popular and have found their applications in systems with renewable sources of energy. So far their overall efficiencies are not very impressive and only for the upper temperature of about 300 °C do they exceed 20%. A drawback of these cycles is the limitation of the cycle upper temperature due to the heat exchanger technology and the materials used. However, it is possible...

A numerical analysis of the thermal effects in the jet impingement stagnation zone
PublikacjaMost of the flows occurring in the engineering systems are turbulent and their accurate numerical analysis is still challenging, especially when combined with the heat transfer. One of the methods of heat transfer enhancement is utilization of the turbulent impinging jets, which were recently applied also in the heat exchangers. Their positive impact on the heat transfer performance was proven, but many questions related to its...

A semi-empirical model for flow boiling heat transfer with account of the reduced pressure effect
PublikacjaIn the present study the attention was focused on the influence of reduced pressure on the predictions of heat transfer during flow boiling at the extensive range of pressures. The results of calculations were to test the sensitivity of the in-house flow boiling model with respect to the selection of the appropriate two-phase flow multiplier, which is one of the distinctive elements of that model. For this purpose a few two-phase...

A study of a compact high-efficiency zero-emission power plant with oxy-fuel combustion
PublikacjaThis paper discusses the application of global trends in gas cycles technology using oxy-fuel combustion. This is followed by a demonstration of a design solution for a new cycle with two enhanced energy-converting devices, namely a wet combustion chamber and a spray-ejector condenser. The proposed gas and steam cycle unit is contained within a single turbine, whose benefits combine those offered by gas turbines (high inlet temperatures)...

A unified approach to the analysis of electric energy and fuel consumption of cars in city traffic
PublikacjaForecasting fuel and electricity consumption is an important factor determining the direction of changes in road engineering solutions, traffic management, selection of routes for public transport and development more efficient car drive systems. With a reliable and easy-to-use computational tool, it is possible to reduce the consumption of primary energy sources and reduce the emission of toxic compounds in cities. An analysis...

A PROPOSAL OF A DESCRIPTION OF THE OPERATING CONDITIONS OF DIESEL-ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES
PublikacjaThe paper presents a proposal of a description of the operating conditions of diesel-electric locomotives. The proposal is a result of the operational experience and the analysis of the locomotive operation. It constitutes a significant simplification in relation to the descriptions currently used by domestic carriers. The paper also presents examples of analyses of the operating conditions of locomotives using the proposed method.

A simple approach to heat exchanger sizing optimisation by means of entrophy generation minimisation
PublikacjaIn the paper an attempt is presented to find the method of optimization of microtube diameter with respect to optimal thermal-hydraulic conditions in the single-phase shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The approach is based on consideration of pumping power at the condition of maximum heat transfer by the heat exchanger tube system. In the optimization method the tube diameter is first specified and then appropriate calculations are...

A SHORT REVIEW OF BLOOD FLOW MODELLING METHODS: FROM MACRO- TO MICROSCALES
PublikacjaThe aim of this paper it to review various scale approaches to the blood flow modelling. Blood motion may be described by three types of mathematical models according to the observed scales or resolutions, namely microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic descriptions. The above approaches are discussed together with their advantages and disadvantages. Several results of mesoscopic simulations are presented with particular attention...

A simplified energy dissipation based model of heat transfer for subcooled flow boiling
PublikacjaIn the paper a model is presented based on energetic considerations for subcooled flow boiling heat transfer. The model is the extension of authors own model developed earlier for saturated flow boiling and condensation. In the former version of the model we used the heat transfer coefficient for the liquid single-phase as a reference level, due to the lack of the appropriate model for heat transfer coefficient for the subcooled...

A simplified energy dissipation based model of heat transfer for post-dryout flow boiling
Publikacjamodel for post dryout mist flow heat transfer is presented based on considerations of energy dissipation in the flow. The model is an extension of authors own model developed earlier for saturated and subcooled flow boiling. In the former version of the model the heat transfer coefficient for the liquid singlephase convection as a reference was used, due to the lack of the appropriate model for heat transfer coefficient for the...

A universal NDT method for examination of low energy impact damage in CFRP with the use of TLC film
PublikacjaThe article presents an attempt to use a sheet of laminated thermochromic liquid crystal film (TLC film) for non-destructive testing of the impact damage (energy values: 1J, 2J, 3J and 4J) in carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP). This is a new, alternative NDT approach based on the thermo-optical effect. The main advantages of this method are a) the low cost of TLC film, b) the low cost of recording devices due to the usage of...

Alternative cogeneration thermodynamic cycles for domestic ORC
PublikacjaThe Organic Flash Cycle (OFC) is suggested as a vapor power cycle that could potentially improve the efficiency of utilization of the heat source. Low and medium temperature finite thermal sources are considered in the cycle. Additionally the OFC’s aim is to reduce temperature difference during heat addition. The study examines 2 different fluids. Comparisons are drawn between the OFC and an optimized basic Organic Rankine Cycle...

Aerodynamic excitations generated in turbine shroud clearance determined bymeans of neural networks
PublikacjaSiły aerodynamiczne generowane w uszczelnieniach turbinowych z reguły opisywane są modelem liniowym. Przy dużych drganiach wirnika sposób ten daje niezbyt dokładne wyniki. Zaproponowano wykorzystanie sieci neuronowych do określania sił ciśnieniowych powstających w uszczelnieniu. Wyniki porównano z badaniami eksperymentalnymi.
