Multipath Complex Root Tracing
PublicationThe problem of multipath root tracing is being addressed in this communication. The self-adaptive complex root tracing algorithm, which was previously utilized for the investigation of various propagation and radiation problems, is analyzed here for the cases when the traced characteristic bifurcates. A procedure of multiroute detection is proposed and demonstrated on the coaxially loaded cylindrical waveguide example.

Properties and interpretation of Instantaneous Complex Frequency
PublicationThe concept of Instantaneous Complex Frequency (ICF) was first defined by Lindon and developed mainly in works of two authors S. Hahn and M. Rojewski. Although it is not widely used in signal analysis, ICF was already used as a complex signal representation in the verification of handwritten signatures, pitch estimation, symbol timing recovery in PSK receiver and in detection of anomalies in data transmission. It should be noted,...

Instantaneous complex frequency for pipeline pitch estimation
PublicationIn the paper a pipeline algorithm for estimating the pitch of speech signal is proposed. The algorithm uses instantaneous complex frequencies estimated for four waveforms obtained by filtering the original speech signal through four bandpass complex Hilbert filters. The imaginary parts of ICFs from each channel give four candidates for pitch estimates. The decision regarding the final estimate is made based on the real parts of...

Analysis of the influence of polystyrene microplastics and their derivatives on the DNA of human colon epithelial cells HT29 with the comet assay
PublicationWe have been using plastic for almost a century and nowadays a lot of them circulates as pollutants in the environment and still defragmenting to micro and nanoscale. The exposition through the food chain and its precise impact on human health is still not clear. In our study, we tested real food packaging after contact with food products and real thermoinsulation and environmental samples of polystyrene in different model liquids,...

On root finding algorithms for complex functions with branch cuts
PublicationA simple and versatile method is presented, which enhances the complex root finding process by eliminating branch cuts and branch points in the analyzed domain. For any complex function defined by a finite number of Riemann sheets, a pointwise product of all the surfaces can be obtained. Such single-valued function is free of discontinuity caused by branch cuts and branch points. The roots of the new function are the same as the...

N-point estimators of the Instantaneous Complex Frequency
PublicationIn this paper estimators of the instantaneous complex frequency (ICF) are presented and discussed. The differential approach for the estimation of the ICF is used, therefore the estimators are based on maximally flat N-point FIR filters: differential and delay. The investigation of the filter performance includes static characteristics of ICF estimation and the error of the ICF estimation in the discrete frequency domain.W pracy...

Efficient Complex Root Finding Algorithm for Microwave and Optical Propagation Problems
PublicationArticle relates to the use of innovative root finding algorithm (on a complex plane) to study propagation properties of microwave and optical waveguides. Problems of this type occur not only in the analysis of lossy structures, but also in the study of complex and leaky modes (radiation phenomena). The proposed algorithm is simple to implement and can be applied for functions with singularities and branch cuts in the complex plane...

Identity verification using complex representations of handwritten signature
PublicationThis paper is devoted to handwritten signature verification using the cross-correlation approach (adopted by the authors from telecommunications) and dynamic time warping. The following invariants of the handwritten signature: the net signature, the instantaneous complex frequency and the complex cepstrum are analyzed. The problem of setting the threshold for deciding whether the current signature is authentic or forged is discussed....

Measurement of complex refractive index of human blood by low-coherence interferometry
PublicationIn this article, the usefulness of the optical technique for measurements of blood complex refractive index has been examined. Measurement of optical properties of human blood is difficult to perform because of its nonuniform nature. However, results of my investigation have shown the usefulness of low-coherencei nterferometry for measurement complex refractive index of human blood. Furthermore, mathematical analysis of spectrum...

Numerical analysis of the ostiomeatal complex aeration using the CFD method
PublicationWe aimed to analyse ostiomeatal complex (OMC) aeration using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method of simulation based on human craniofacial computed tomography (CT) scans. The Reynolds-Average Simulation approach and turbulence model based on linear eddy viscosity supplemented with the two-equation...

Human voice modification using instantaneous complex frequency
PublicationThe paper presents the possibilities of changing human voice by modifying instantaneous complex frequency (ICF) of the speech signal. The proposed method provides a flexible way of altering voice without the necessity of finding fundamental frequency and formants' positions or detecting voiced and unvoiced fragments of speech. The algorithm is simple and fast. Apart from ICF it uses signal factorization into two factors: one fully...

Novel Nonlinear High Order Technologies for Damage Diagnosis of Complex Assets
PublicationFor the first time worldwide, innovative techniques, generic non-linear higher-order unnormalized cross-correlations of spectral moduli, for the diagnosis of complex assets, are proposed. The normalization of the proposed techniques is based on the absolute central moments, that have been proposed and widely investigated in mathematical works. The existing higher-order, crosscovariances of complex spectral components are not sufficiently...

Complex Root Finding Algorithm Based on Delaunay Triangulation
PublicationA simple and flexible algorithm for finding zeros of a complex function is presented. An arbitrary-shaped search region can be considered and a very wide class of functions can be analyzed, including those containing singular points or even branch cuts. The proposed technique is based on sampling the function at nodes of a regular or a self-adaptive mesh and on the analysis of the function sign changes. As a result, a set of candidate points...

Moreover, an engagement of the tracing process with a global root finding algorithm recently presented in the literature is performed. In order to confirm a validity and efficiency of the proposed technique, a...

For evaluation of a vehicle trajectory three criteria have...

Calculation methods of interaction of electromagnetic waves with objects of complex geometries
PublicationModeling of the electromagnetic interaction with different homogeneous or inhomo-geneous objects is a fundamental and important problem. It is relatively easy to solve Maxwellequations analytically when the scattering object is spherical or cylindrical, for example. How-ever, when it loses these properties all that is left for us is to useapproximation models, to ac-quire the solution we need. Modeling of complex, non-spherical,...
