Progressive failure analysis of laminates in the framework of 6-field nonlinear shell theory
PublicationThe paper presents the model of progressive failure analysis of laminates incorporated into the 6-field non-linear shell theory with non-symmetrical strain measures of Cosserat type. Such a theory is specially recommended in the analysis of shells with intersections due to its specific kinematics including the so-called drilling rotation. As a consequence of asymmetry of strain measures, modified laminates failure criteria must...

On rotational instability within the nonlinear six-parameter shell theory
PublicationWithin the six-parameter nonlinear shell theory we analyzed the in-plane rotational instability which oc- curs under in-plane tensile loading. For plane deformations the considered shell model coincides up to notations with the geometrically nonlinear Cosserat continuum under plane stress conditions. So we con- sidered here both large translations and rotations. The constitutive relations contain some additional mi- cropolar parameters...

FEM analysis of composite materials failure in nonlinear six field shell theory
PublicationThe monography deals with the problem of failure initiation in thin laminated composites. Known techniques of laminate structures modelling are briefly characterised. Eventually, shell based approach is chosen for the purpose of the description of the composite structures behaviour, as it predicts their deformation and states of stress effectively in a global sense. The nonlinear six parameter shell theory (6p theory) with asymmetric...

A Nonlinear Model of a Mesh Shell
PublicationFor a certain class of elastic lattice shells experiencing finite deformations, a continual model using the equations of the so-called six-parameter shell theory has been proposed. Within this model, the kinematics of the shell is described using six kinematically independent scalar degrees of freedom — the field of displacements and turns, as in the case of the Cosserat continuum, which gives reason to call the model under consideration...

Geometrically nonlinear FEM analysis of 6-parameter resultant shell theory based on 2-D Cosserat constitutive model
PublicationWe develop the elastic constitutive law for the resultant statically and kinematically exact, nonlinear, 6-parameter shell theory. The Cosserat plane stress equations are integrated through-the- thickness under assumption of the Reissner-Mindlin kinematics. The resulting constitutive equations for stress resultant and couple resultants are expressed in terms of two micropolar constants: the micropolar modulus Gc and the micropolar...

The material law is derived by through-the-thickness integration of the Cosserat plane stress equations. The constitutive equations are formulated with respect to the neutral physical surface. The influence of...

Nonlinear resultant theory of shells accounting for thermodiffusion
PublicationThe complete nonlinear resultant 2D model of shell thermodiffusion is developed. All 2D balance laws and the entropy imbalance are formulated by direct through-the-thickness integration of respective 3D laws of continuum thermodiffusion. This leads to a more rich thermodynamic structure of our 2D model with several additional 2D fields not present in the 3D parent model. Constitutive equations of elastic thermodiffusive shells...

On Nonlinear Dynamic Theory of Thin Plates with Surface Stresses
PublicationWe discuss the modelling of dynamics of thin plates considering surface stresses according to Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity. Taking into account the surface mass density we derive the two-dimensional (2D) equations of motion. For the reduction of the three-dimensional (3D) motion equations to the 2D ones we use the trough-the-thickness integration procedure. As a result, the 2D dynamic parameters of the plate depend not only...

The smoothness test for a density function
PublicationThe problem of testing hypothesis that a density function has no more than μ derivatives versus it has more than μ derivatives is considered. For a solution, the L2 norms of wavelet orthogonal projections on some orthogonal ‘‘differences’’ of spaces from a multiresolution analysis is used. For the construction of the smoothness test an asymptotic distribution of a smoothness estimator is used. To analyze that asymptotic distribution,...

Asymptotic properties of quadratic stochastic operators acting on the L1 space
PublicationQuadratic stochastic operators can exhibit a wide variety of asymptotic behaviours and these have been introduced and studied recently in the ℓ1 space. It turns out that in principle most of the results can be carried over to the L1 space. However, due to topological properties of this space one has to restrict in some situations to kernel quadratic stochastic operators. In this article we study the uniform and strong asymptotic...

Multiresolution analysis and adaptive estimation on a sphere using stereographic wavelets

The frames, or as we call them, stereografic wavelets are obtained by transforming a wavelet system, namely Daubechies, using some stereographic operators. We prove that our estimator achieves an optimal rate of convergence on some Besov type class of functions by adapting to unknown smoothness....

We introduce the notion of symplectic G-function and provide relation for the growth of Hamiltonian in terms of certain constant CG associated to symplectic G-function G. We discuss an optimality of this constant for some special cases. We also provide applications to the Φ-laplacian type systems.

On mixing in the class of quadratic stochastic operators
PublicationWe study different types of limit behavior of quadratic stochastic operators acting on ℓ^1 (or ℓ^1_d) spaces in both strong and uniform topologies. The main motif of the paper is to express the uniform and strong asymptotic stability of the quadratic stochastic operator in terms of convergence of the associated (linear) nonhomogeneous Markov chain. We also examine which type of uniform convergence of iterates of the quadratic...
