Optical method for verification of homogeneity of phantoms for calibration of magnetic resonance
PublicationThe primary purpose of this study was to develop a laboratory photonic set-up for characterisation of homogeneity of gel phantoms for calibration of magnetic resonance. In this system, optical coherence tomography allows the detection of micro- and macroscopic heterogeneities of a structure. The set-up was used to perform measurements of agar and agar-carrageenan gels, which are the basis for more complex phantoms for magnetic...

Carboxylation Enhances Fragmentation of Furan upon Resonant Electron Attachment
PublicationWe report a dissociative electron attachment study to 2-furoic acid (C5H4O3) isolated in a gas phase, which is a model molecule consisting of a carboxylic group and a furan ring. Dissociation of furan by low energy electrons is accessible only via electronic excited Feshbach resonances at energies of incident electrons above 5 eV. On the other hand, carboxylic acids are well- known to dissociate via attachment of electrons at subexcitation energies....

Electron ionization and low energy electron attachment to molecules of biological interest
PublicationEthylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (TRIS) were investigated by electron impact ionization and low energy electron attachment. Both compounds are components of biological buffers and often are used as DNA stabilizers in irradiation studies. hus it is of a great importance to understand their potential interactions with radiation. Our results revealed that at least one of them, EDTA, may...

Low to intermediate energy elastic electron scattering from dichloromethane (CH2Cl2)
PublicationWe report a theoretical-experimental investigation of electron scattering by dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) in the low- and intermediate energy ranges. Experimental elastic differential cross sections (DCS), in the incident electron energy range of 0.5-800 eV and scattering angle range of 10°–130°, were measured using a crossed beam relative flow technique. Integral and momentum- transfer cross sections were determined from the experimental...

Low energy differential elastic electron scattering from acetonitrile (CH3CN)
PublicationMeasurements of elastic differential cross sections for electron scattering from acetonitrile (CH3CN) have been performed utilizing a crossed electron-molecular beam experiment and with the relative flow method, for the incident electron energy range of 0.7 eV–30 eV and the scattering angle range of 10◦–130◦. These differential cross sections have been used to calculate the elastic integral and momentum- transfer cross sections,...

Electron Scattering from Methyl Formate (HCOOCH3): A Joint Theoretical and Experimental Study
PublicationElastic low-energy electron collisions with methyl formate have been studied theoretically at the level of various theories. The elastic integral cross section was calculated using Schwinger multichannel and R-matrix methods, in the static-exchange and static-exchange plus polarization levels of approximations for energies up to 15 eV. The absolute total cross section for electron scattering from methyl formate has been measured...

Prevention of resonance oscillations in gear mechanisms using non-circular gears
PublicationOne of the main disadvantages of gear mechanisms is the occurrence of noise and vibrations. This study investigated the applicability of non-circular gears for preventing resonance oscillations in gear mechanisms. The influence of a small deviation of the gear centrodes from the nominal circles on kinematic and oscillatory characteristics was analysed. It was shown that a larger deviation results in a smaller resonance amplitude...

Computer-aided analysis of resonance risk in power system with Static Var Compensators
PublicationStatic Var Compensators operation in a power system may significantly improve voltage profiles in nodes and the reactive power balance, as well as ensure greater system stability in emergency conditions. However these devices may be a cause of a resonance in the system. The aim of this paper is to call attention to the need to include resonance phenomena in a compensator’s location evaluation process. The analysis performed in...

Influence of Shunt Compensation with SVC Devices on Resonance Risk in Power Systems
PublicationMany analyses are required to locate a new reactive power source in a power system. The choice of a location is a very complex matter which requires various aspects to be considered. Selecting a location also entails the necessity to assess it from the point of view of the selected compensator’s structure as well as the system’s performance in various states with the new device on. The paper presents the issues of assessing compensator...

Calculation of Resonance in Planar and Cylindrical Microstrip Structures Using a Hybrid Technique
PublicationA hybrid technique was employed for the analysis of the resonance frequency of thin planar and cylindrical microstrip structures with the patches of arbitrary geometry. The proposed technique utilizes a combination of Galerkin’s moment method and a finite-element method (FEM). In this approach, an FEM is adopted to calculate the patch surface current densities, and a method of moments is utilized to calculate the resonance frequencies...

Ultra-thin film of aluminum oxide influence on the plasmon resonance in gold nanostructures
Open Research DataUltra-thin film of aluminum oxide influence on the plasmon resonance in gold nanostructures was measured by UV-VIS spectroscopy. Ultra thin film of Al2O3 was deposited on a gold nanostructures. Thickness of film was 2nm - 8nm. Shift of plasmon resonance was observed, as a result of various dielectric constant of layer.

Monotone iterative method for first-order differential equations at resonance
PublicationThis paper concerns the application of the monotone iterative technique for first-order differential equations involving Stieltjes integrals conditions. We discuss such problems at resonance when the measure in the Stieltjes integral is positive and also when this measure changes the sign. Sufficient conditions which guarantee the existence of extremal, unique and quasi-solutions are given. Three examples illustrate the results.

Investigation of plasmon resonance in a silver nanoparticles
Open Research DataSilver nanostructures were prepared on borosilicate glass (Corning 1737F) substrates. Thin Ag films (1–9 nm thickness) were deposited using a table-top dc magnetron sputtering coater (EM SCD 500, Leica) in pure Ar plasma (argon, Air Products 99.999%). The Ag target was of 99.99% purity, the rate of layer deposition was about 0.4 nm·s−1, and the incident...

Electron attachment to hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO)
PublicationWe probe the electron attachment in hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO), C3F6O, a gas widely used in plasma technologies. We determine the absolute electron attachment cross section using two completely different experimental approaches: (i) a crossed-beam experiment at single collision conditions (local pressures of 5 × 10−4 mbar) and (ii) a pulsed Townsend experiment at pressures of 20–100 mbar. In the latter method, the cross sections...

Thermal dewetting as a method of surface modification of the gold thin films for surface plasmon resonance based sensor applications
PublicationHere, we report a quick and simple approach with low, optimized production costs to obtain surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based sensors fabricated through a time- and resource-effective method based on thermal dewetting of thin Au films. From the applicative point of view, the method of detection presented here should be easier to implement, since light transmission measurements seem to be much less challenging than light refractive...
