Multimodal Genetic Algorithm with Phase Analysis to Solve Complex Equations of Electromagnetic Analysis
PublicationIn this contribution, a new genetic-algorithm-based method of finding roots and poles of a complex function of a complex variable is presented. The algorithm employs the phase analysis of the function to explore the complex plane with the use of the genetic algorithm. Hence, the candidate regions of root and pole occurrences are selected and verified with the use of discrete Cauchy's argument principle. The algorithm is evaluated...

Genetic Algorithm Approach for Gains Selection of Induction Machine Extended Speed Observer
PublicationThe subject of this paper is gains selection of an extended induction machine speed observer. A high number of gains makes manual gains selection difficult and due to nonlinear equations of the observer, well-known methods of gains selection for linear systems cannot be applied. A method based on genetic algorithms has been proposed instead. Such an approach requires multiple fitness function calls; therefore, using a quality index...

Solving highly-dimensional multi-objective optimization problems by means of genetic gender
PublicationPaper presents a computational optimization study using a genetic gender approach for solving multi-objective optimization problems of detection observers. In this methodology the information about an individual gender of all the considered solutions is applied for the purpose of making distinction between different groups of objectives. This information is drawn out of the fitness of individuals and applied during a current parental...

Phototransformation of Amlodipine: Degradation Kinetics and Identification of Its Photoproducts
PublicationNowadays, monitoring focuses on the primary compounds and does not include degradation products formed during various biological and chemical processes. Transformation products may have the same effects to human health and the environment or sometimes they can be more toxic than the parent compound. Unfortunately, knowledge about the formation of degradation products is still limited, however, can be very important for the environmental...

Kinetics and mechanism of the chemically modified starches during gelatinization.
PublicationNative starch was silicated by means of microwave-assisted reactions with varying doses of reagents. Resulting products were characterized by DSC and HMR-relaxation methods. It was observed that the hydratation of the silicated starches during gelatinization decreases when compared to that of the native potato starch. The amount of unfrozen water for ungelitinizated silicated starches are less than in control samples. At the same...

Kinetics of the crosslinking reaction between genipin and chitosan solutions
PublicationThe kinetics of the chitosan crosslinking reaction with genipin was examined. The strong relationship was found between crosslinking agent concentration, chitosan concentration, temperature and gelling time. Data obtained will be used in the proper selection of optimal genipin concentration for crosslinking chitosan solutions.

Generalized temperature dependence model for anammox process kinetics
PublicationTemperature is a key operational factor influencing the anammox process kinetics. In particular, at temperatures below 15 °C, the specific anammox activity (SAA) considerably decreases. This study aimed to describe the temperature dependence of the anammox process kinetics in the temperature range from 10 to 55 °C, including the specific characteristics of“cold anammox”. The commonly used Arrhenius and extended and modifiedRatkowsky...

Degradation kinetics and mechanism of pentoxifylline by ultraviolet activated peroxydisulfate
PublicationDegradation of pentoxifylline (PTX) by sodium peroxydisulfate (SPDS) assisted by UV irradiation has been investigated in deionized water. The treatment was more favorable over direct photolysis or peroxydisulfate oxidation alone. The effects of various parameters, including different dosage of oxidant agent, PTX concentration, initial solution pH levels, and the presence of inorganic ions like chloride, nitrate and carbonate have...

Pose-Configurable Generic Tracking of Elongated Objects
PublicationElongated objects have various shapes and can shift, rotate, change scale, and be rigid or deform by flexing, articulating, and vibrating, with examples as varied as a glass bottle, a robotic arm, a surgical suture, a finger pair, a tram, and a guitar string. This generally makes tracking of poses of elongated objects very challenging. We describe a unified, configurable framework for tracking the pose of elongated objects, which...

Generic emergence of classical features in quantum Darwinism
PublicationQuantum Darwinism posits that only specific information about a quantum system that is redundantly proliferated to many parts of its environment becomes accessible and objective, leading to the emergence of classical reality. However, it is not clear under what conditions this mechanism holds true. Here we prove that the emergence of classical features along the lines of quantum Darwinism is a general feature of any quantum dynamics:...

Generic appearance of objective results in quantum measurements
PublicationMeasurement is of central interest in quantum mechanics as it provides the link between the quantum world and the world of everyday experience. One of the features of everyday experience is its robust, objective character, contrasting the delicate nature of quantum systems. Here we analyze in a completely model-independent way the celebrated von Neumann measurement process, using recent techniques of information flow, studied in...

New Unsymmetrical Bisacridine Derivatives Noncovalently Attached to Quaternary Quantum Dots Improve Cancer Therapy by Enhancing Cytotoxicity toward Cancer Cells and Protecting Normal Cells
PublicationThe use of nanoparticles for the controlled drug delivery to cells has emerged as a good alternative to traditional systemic delivery. Quantum dots (QDs) offer potentially invaluable societal benefits such as drug targeting and in vivo biomedical imaging. In contrast, QDs may also pose risks to human health and the environment under certain conditions. Here, we demonstrated that unique combination of nanocrystals core components...

Assestment of the anti-cancer activity of the copper complexes with imidazole and pivalato ligands
PublicationDespite the development of science and technology progress so far there have not been found effective drugs for cancer. Many coordination compounds were investigated due to their antitumor potential. The most known cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) is used as anti-cancer therapeutic agent. The copper complexes are the coordination compounds possessing anti-tumour properties. Their capability to kill cancer cells is mainly linked...
