Hormony płciowe w środowisku - zagrożenia jakie niosą ze sobą
PublicationSpośród dużej ilości i różnorodności związków chemicznych dostających się do środowiska coraz większą uwagę i szczególne zainteresowanie poświęca się związkom endokrynnym (ang. Endocrine Disrupting Coumpounds - EDCs). Wśród związków endokrynnych to estrogeny zarówno naturalne jak i syntetyczne zostały wskazane i opisane jako związki niosące ze sobą największy potencjał aktywności estrogennej. Jednym z głównych źródeł estrogenów...

Harmony Search for Data Mining with Big Data
PublicationIn this paper, some harmony search algorithms have been proposed for data mining with big data. Three areas of big data processing have been studied to apply new metaheuristics. The first problem is related to MapReduce architecture that can be supported by a team of harmony search agents in grid infrastructure. The second dilemma involves development of harmony search in preprocessing of data series before data mining. Moreover,...

Harmony Search for Self-configuration of Fault–Tolerant and Intelligent Grids
PublicationIn this paper, harmony search algorithms have been proposed to self-configuration of fault-tolerant grids for big data processing. Self-configuration of computer grids lies in the fact that new computer nodes are automatically configured by software agents and then integrated into the grid. A base node works due to several configuration parameters that define some aspects of data communications and energy power consumption. We...

Working in harmony with nature. Green office buildings in a present-day city
PublicationMetropolis - as main point of people's migration, mostly because of work, have to face sustainable development as a strategy for the near future. This article describes possible ways leading to the best office building concepts in the design process. Searching for a workspace in harmony with nature is one of the aspects of a balanced development. The challenge is to create functional, compact, environmentally friendly and healthy...

Harmony Search to Self-Configuration of Fault-Tolerant Grids for Big Data
PublicationIn this paper, harmony search algorithms have been proposed to self-configuration of fault-tolerant grids for big data processing. Some tasks related to big data processing have been considered. Moreover, two criteria have been applied to evaluate quality of grids. The first criterion is a probability that all tasks meet their deadlines and the second one is grid reliability. Furthermore, some intelligent agents based on harmony...

A tetragonal polymorph of SrMn2P2 made under high pressure – theory and experiment in harmony
PublicationFollowing the predictions of total energy calculations, a tetragonal SrMn2P2 phase is proposed and successfully formed under high pressure. At ambient pressure, SrMn2P2 adopts the primitive trigonal La2O3 structure type (space group P[3 with combining macron]m1). However, the results of total energy calculations indicate that SrMn2P2 should be more stable in the tetragonal ThCr2Si2 structure type (space group I4/mmm) than in its...

An electrochemical biosensor for the determination of hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in human serum
PublicationThis work describes the modification of a gold electrode to create an electrochemical biosensor capable of detecting human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). The biosensor was obtained by modifying the gold electrode with cysteamine and oligopeptide (PPLRINRHILTR). The modification steps of the gold electrode were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and impedance electrochemical spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The conducted EIS experiments...

Determination of sex hormone concentration in wastewater samples.
Open Research DataConcentration levels of five selected steroid hormones in influent and effluent waters from wastewater treatment plant were determined using SPE(C18)-HPLC-ESI/MS/MS method. Sex hormones like: estradiol, estriol, estrone, 17-α-ethynyloestradiol, progesterone were present in all influent wastwater samples.

Standards for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area versus Common Assessment Framework in education. Conflict or harmony?
PublicationThe aim of the research was to analyze the assumptions of Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ENQA) and the criteria of Common Assessment Framework (CAF) for the educational sector and based on that to find out the main differences and similarities (conflicts and harmony) between them. The results of the research showed that the current trends of the quality movement evolution in...

Determination of hormones in water samples using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry
PublicationOver the past few years, many synthetic (ethinylestradiol) and natural (estradiol, estriol, estrone) compounds present in the environment have been affecting the hormonalbalance of humans and animals. Steroid hormones are very often used for medical purposesand have high estrogenic activity what makes them endocrine disrupters. Most hormonalcompounds are released into the water as a result of their incomplete removal in wastewatertreatment...

Recent progress in the development of steroid sulfatase inhibitors – examples of the novel and most promising compounds from the last decade
PublicationThe purpose of this review article is to provide an overview of recent achievements in the synthesis of novel steroid sulfatase (STS) inhibitors. STS is a crucial enzyme in the biosynthesis of active hormones (including estrogens and androgens) and, therefore, represents an extremely attractive molecular target for the development of hormone-dependent cancer therapies. The inhibition of STS may effectively reduce the availability...
