Toxicity of ionic liquid cations and anions towards activated sewage sludge organisms from different sources – Consequences for biodegradation testing and wastewater treatment plant operation
PublikacjaIonic liquids (ILs) have attracted great interest in academia and industry during the last decade. So far, several ILs have been used in technological processes, from small scale to industrial applications, which makes it more and more likely that they will be released into the environment. Researches have been actively studying the environmental and toxicological bevaviour of ILs, but their influence on the activated sewage sludge...

Matching trajectory of a person to a map in inertial navigation system
PublikacjaPaper describes the method of matching, to a map, trajectories of a person walking indoors, obtained from inertial navigation module. General principle of matching algorithm based on particle filtering is presented. Method of detecting particle collisions is described as well. The last chapter provides test results of map matching related to a true trajectory.

Current trends in analytical strategies for determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in samples with different matrix compositions – Part 1.: Screening of new developments in sample preparation
PublikacjaPolybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are ubiquitous compounds in the environment. Restrictions on the use of PBDEs introduced at the beginning of the 21st century have not eliminated these highly persistent and bioaccumulative compounds from the environment. Despite many existing regulations to control and phase out, extensive research on PBDEs is still necessary to fully evaluate the hazard their create to the environment. In...

Performance Analysis of Interaction between Smart Glasses and Smart Objects Using Image-Based Object Identification
PublikacjaWe propose the use of smart glasses to collaborate with smart objects in the Internet of Things environment. Particularly we are focusing on new interaction methods and the analysis of acceptable reaction times in the process of object recognition using smart glasses. We evaluated the proposed method using user studies and experiments with three different smart glasses: Google Glass, Epson Moverio, and the developed eGlasses platform....

Pracujący w czasie rzeczywistym system detekcji gazów wykorzystujący przenośny komputer Raspberry PI oraz matrycę półprzewodnikowych czujników gazu
PublikacjaThe gas-analyzing systems based on the array of partially selective gas sensors and pattern-recognition techniques are potentially fast and lowcost alternative for other devices, like gas‑analysers. They give the possibility of recognition the type and the concentration of measured volatile compounds in their working environment. In this work we present the implementation of gas recognition system, in which the signals from an...

Selected concentration techniques for gas chromatographic analysis of environmental samples
PublikacjaThe paper describes the role and tasks of environmental analysis and monitoring. It emphasises the leading role played by gas chromatography, especially when coupled with suitable sample preparation. This is demonstrated by some literature evidence and mainly by the author's original work on the design of sample preparation apparatus and development of GC-based methods of determination of a wide variety of organic pollutants in...

COMPREHENSIVE MODELLING OF THE COST EFFECTIVNESS OF RAILWAY LINE ELECTRIFICATION
PublikacjaSubject of this paper is the mathematical model estimating the Economical threshold between usage of combustion engine traction and electrical traction for new and modernized railway passenger communication lines. Currently available models do not coincide with the whole complexity of the problem. The proposed model was implemented into Matlab and then validated on “Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna” investment time-frame and its cost...

Sensitivity analysis of a composite footbridge
PublikacjaThis work include an example of sensitivity analysis for the design of a composite footbridge. A sandwich structure is used, consisting two high-strength skins separated by a core material. The analysis was conducted for two numerical models. The first one is a simple, single-span beam of a composite cross-section (laminate and foam), with different Young’s modulus for each material. Calculations were made by means of a MATLAB-based...

Current trends in analytical strategies for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in samples with different matrix compositions – Part 2: New approaches to PBDEs determination
PublikacjaHerein, we review the latest technical solutions for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) determination in samples with different matrix compositions, largely focusing on gas chromatography but also presenting some liquid chromatography–based solutions. Moreover, we discuss the use of diverse sample injection techniques while considering the advantages and disadvantages of each injection system in the context of PBDEs analysis....

Leakage detection and localisation in drinking water distributionnetworks by MultiRegional PCA
PublikacjaMonitoring is one of the most important steps in advanced control of complex dynamic systems. Precise information about systems behaviour, including faults indicating, enables for efficient control. The paper describes an approach to detection and localisation of pipe leakage in Drinking Water Distribution Systems (DWDS) representing complex and distributed dynamic system of large scale. Proposed MultiRegional Principal Component...

Distance learning trends: introducing new solutions to data analysis courses
PublikacjaNowadays data analysis of any kind becomes a piece of art. The same happens with the teaching processes of statistics, econometrics and other related courses. This is not only because we are facing (and are forced to) teach online or in a hybrid mode. Students expect to see not only the theoretical part of the study and solve some practical examples together with the instructor. They are waiting to see a variety of tools, tutorials,...

Small Polymeric Toys Placed in Child-Dedicated Chocolate Food Products—Do They Contain Harmful Chemicals? Examination of Quality by Example of Selected VOCs and SVOCs
PublikacjaThis study was focused on child-dedicated chocolate food products that contain a plastic package with a small toy inside (also known as chocolate eggs). Three types of these products that are commercially available on the Polish market, with different prices, chocolate composition, and main types of polymers used in the toy manufacturing process, were investigated. The polymers were identified using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR)...

PARTICLE SIZE ANALYSIS OF SUSPENSIONS IN REMOVING OF ORGANIC MATTER AND PHOSPHORUS FROM WASTEWATER AND SURFACE WATER
PublikacjaIn this paper the particle size of suspended solids in the removing of organic matter and phosphorus compounds from lake water and wastewater treated in the Ecological Treatment Systems (ETS) was analyzed. The invesigated materials were taken from two ETS located in Pomerania Region/Poland. Object in Swarzewo is 3rd stage of biological treatment of municipal wastewater, while object in Kartuzy has task to remove a phosphorus from...

Relationships between concentrations of selected organohalogen contaminants and thyroid hormones and vitamins A, E and D in Faroese pilot whales
PublikacjaPilot whales (Globicephala melas) from the Faroe Islands, North-East Atlantic, have high body concentrations of organohalogenated compounds (OHCs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorinated pesticides (OCPs) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). The aim of the present study was to examine if and to what extent blood plasma and liver concentrations of several groups of these OHCs are related to concentrations...

Analysis of catalitic reactors usefulness to reduce pollution generated by piston combustion engines with regard to ship main engines
PublikacjaThe article presents results which indicate that the use of catalytic reactors to reduce emissions of harmful compunds contained in the exhaust gas is important in the operation of vehicle motors operation. Efforts of the shipbuilding industry to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gas emitted by the main engines have been indicated and pointed to the desirability of the use of these catalysts in maritime transport. It has been pointed...
