Analyses of the effect of tooth rake angle and friction conditions upon the shear angle in the cutting zone during wood sawing. - [Chapter III]W : Wood machining and processing - product and tooling quality development
PublikacjaW pracy przedstawiono analizy wpływu wartości kąta natarcia piły i warunków tarcia na zmiany kata ścinania w strefie skrawania podczas przecinania drewna.

Applications of semi-definite optimization in quantum information protocols
PublikacjaThis work is concerned with the issue of applications of the semi-definite programming (SDP) in the field of quantum information sci- ence. Our results of the analysis of certain quantum information protocols using this optimization technique are presented, and an implementation of a relevant numerical tool is introduced. The key method used is NPA discovered by Navascues et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 010401 (2007)]. In chapter...

Polish Adaptation of the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Questionnaire—Revised 2 for All Pregnant Women
PublikacjaPregnancy-related anxiety (PrA) is a specific type of anxiety characteristic of the perinatal period. PrA can affect pregnancy and birth. However, no validated tool exists to measure PrA in Polish obstetric practice. The aim of this study was to translate the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Questionnaire—Revised 2 (PRAQ-R2) into Polish and to evaluate its reliability and factorial and construct validity. This study was conducted in Poland...

Decision-Making Models of the Human-Operator as an Element of the Socio-Technical Systems
PublikacjaThe authors of the chapter proved that the fundamental intellectual processes, which lie on the basis of decision-making behavior of the human-operator, could be identified on the bases on the analogies with the devices (elements). The basic intellectual processes of the Rational decision-making models can be adequately identified by the transient processes of the PID-controller; the intellectual processes of the Bounded Rationality...

Optimization of Wireless Networks for Resilience to Adverse Weather Conditions
PublikacjaIn this chapter, we consider how adverse weather conditions such as rain or fog affect the performance of wireless networks, and how to optimize these networks so as to make them robust to these conditions. We first show how to analyze the weather conditions in order to make them useful for network optimization modelling. Using an example realistic network, we show how to optimize two types of wireless networks: free-space optical...

BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING EDUCATION IN POLAND - PIONEERS AND INSTITUTIONS
PublikacjaThe aim of this chapter is to show the history of biomedical engineering education in Poland, from the beginning till today with special task to underline the role of modern information technology. This story is not very old, just around one century, that may be classified into four basic periods related to important historic events. First are the beginnings before the second world war. Then post-war recovery and development of...

THE COST ANALYSIS OF CORROSION PROTECTION SOLUTIONS FOR STEEL COMPONENTS IN TERMS OF THE OBJECT LIFE CYCLE COST
PublikacjaSteel materials, due to their numerous advantages - high availability, easiness of processing and possibility of almost any shaping are commonly applied in construction for carrying out basic carrier systems and auxiliary structures. However, the major disadvantage of this material is its high corrosion susceptibility, which depends strictly on the local conditions of the facility and the applied type of corrosion protection system....

Analysis of air mass back trajectories with present and historical volcanic activity and anthropogenic compounds to infer pollution sources in the South Shetland Islands (Antarctica)
PublikacjaThis work analyses atmospheric transport of natural and anthropogenic pollution to the South Shetland Islands (SSI), with particular reference to the period September 2015 – August 2017. Based on data from the Global Volcanism Program database and air mass back trajectories calculated using the HySPLIT model, it was found that it is possible that in the analysed period volcanic pollution was supplied via long-range transport from...

Positive solutions to advanced fractional differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions
PublikacjaWe study the existence of positive solutions for a class of higher order fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and boundary value problems involving Stieltjes integral conditions. The fixed point theorem due to Avery-Peterson is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple positive solutions. Certain of our results improve on recent work in the literature.

Uptake, accumulation, and translocation of Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd, Ni, and Cr by P. australis seedlings in an urban dredged sediment mesocosm: impact of seedling origin and initial trace metal content
PublikacjaThe study presents results from 6 months of phytoremediation of sediments dredged from three urban retention tanks carried out in a mesocosm setup with the use of P. australis. Two kinds of P. australis seedlings were considered: seedlings originating from natural (uncontaminated - Suncont) and anthropogenically changed environments (contaminated – Scont); this distinction was reflected in the baseline concentrations of trace metals...

Application of spatial neural simulators of turbine blade rows to fluid flow diagnostics
PublikacjaThis chapter presents the results of neural modelling of fluid flow in steam turbine row. In modelling working conditions of the flow channel varied, thus the aim of the work was to reconstruct the reference state - distributions of velocity, pressure, and losses in flow channel - with high accuracy for fluid flow diagnostics.

Electron collisions with cyanoacetylene HC3N : Vibrational excitation and dissociative electron attachment
PublikacjaWe experimentally probe electron collisions with HC3N in the energy range from 0 to 10 eV with the focus on vibrational excitation and dissociative electron attachment. The vibrational excitation cross sections show a number of resonances which are mode specific: the two dominant π∗ resonances are visible in the excitation of all the vibrational modes; however, broad σ ∗ resonances are visible only in certain bond-stretching vibrational...

METHOD FOR SHIP'S ROLLING PERIOD PREDICTION WITH REGARD TO NON-LINEARITY OF GZ CURVE
PublikacjaThe paper deals with the problem of prediction of the rolling period. A special emphasis is put on the practical application of the new method for rolling period prediction with regard to non-linearity of the GZ curve. The one degree-of-freedom rolling equation is applied with using the non-linear stiffness moment and linear damping moment formulas. A number of ships are considered to research the discrepancies between the pending...

FEM Calculations in Analysis of Steel Subsea Water Injection Flowlines Designing Process
PublikacjaPaper describes the result of theoretical research aimed at assessing the loads and operating conditions of a Coiled Tubing pipeline injecting water, suspended to the mining platform of Lotos Petrobaltic. For this purpose, appropriate calculation models have been developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), taking into account the nature of the analyzed object and its loads. The analyzes were carried out for two pipes (previously...

Using Synchronously Registered Biosignals Dataset for Teaching Basics of Medical Data Analysis – Case Study
PublikacjaMedical data analysis and processing strongly relies on the data quality itself. The correct data registration allows many unnecessary steps in data processing to be avoided. Moreover, it takes a certain amount of experience to acquire data that can produce replicable results. Because consistency is crucial in the teaching process, students have access to pre-recorded real data without the necessity of using additional equipment...
