Correlation between natural frequencies and buckling load in a stiffened shell
PublikacjaThe paper deals with correlation between natural frequencies and buckling load of a stiffened shell composed of corrugated sheets and vertical stiffeners (columns). The simplified shell segment represents the buckling behaviour of a whole silo with sparsely distributed columns. The paper covers variants of linear buckling anal-yses, dynamic eigenvalue analyses and geometrically non-linear analyses of a segment modelled with shell...

Computations of critical load value of composite shell with random geometric imperfections
PublikacjaThe work presents the numerical analysis of composite shell with geometric imperfections subjected to compression along its generatrix. The imperfections are described as single indentations and random fields with random parameters of shape and correlation. The fields are generated with the use of the authors made program. Using the authors’ FEM software as well as commercial package Femap with NX Nastran, the critical load values...

Simple Computational Methods in Predicting Limit Load of High-Strength Cold-Formed Sections due to Local Buckling: A Case Study
PublikacjaCold-formed thin-walled sections are prone to local buckling caused by residual stresses, geometrical imperfections and inconsistency of material properties. We present a real case of buckling failure and conduct a numerical and experimental study aimed to identify methods capable of predicting such failures. It is important because designers of structures are getting more FEA-oriented and tend to avoid lengthy procedures of cold-formed...

Post-critical buckling of truncated conical carbon nanotubes considering surface effects embedding in a nonlinear Winkler substrate using the Rayleigh-Ritz method
PublikacjaThis research predicts theoretically post-critical axial buckling behavior of truncated conical carbon nanotubes (CCNTs) with several boundary conditions by assuming a nonlinear Winkler matrix. The post-buckling of CCNTs has been studied based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, Hamilton’s principle, Lagrangian strains, and nonlocal strain gradient theory. Both stiffness-hardening and stiffness-softening properties of the nanostructure...

Sensitivity analysis of critical loads of I-columns
PublikacjaThe first order variation of critical buckling load of thin-walled columns with bisymmetric open cross-section due to some variations of the design variables such as: cross-section dimensions, or material characteristics is derived. The influence of the residual welding stresses is taken into account. In the numerical examples dealing with I-column the functions describing the effect of the variation of the dimensions of the flange...

Sensitivity analysis of critical forces of trusses with side bracing
PublikacjaThe present research is devoted to the study of out-of-plane buckling of trusses with elastic side bracing. Inthis paper, a sensitivity analysis of critical buckling loads of a truss due to bracing stiffness is carried out. A method based on the sensitivity analysis for the determination of the threshold bracing stiffness conditionfor full bracing of a truss is proposed. The influence lines of the unit change of the bracing stiffness...

Buckling of thin-walled columns accounting for initial geometrical imperfections
PublikacjaThe paper is devoted to the effect of some geometrical imperfections on the critical buckling load of axially compressed thin-walled I-columns. The analytical formulas for the critical torsional and flexural buckling loads accounting for the initial curvature of the column axis or the twist angle respectively are derived. The classical assumptions of theory of thin-walled beams with non-deformable cross-sections are adopted. The...

Sensitivity analysis of flexural and torsional buckling loads of laminated columns
PublikacjaThe paper concerns first order sensitivity analysis of flexural and torsional bucklin g loads of axiallycompressed thin-walled columns with bisymmetric or axisymmetric cross-section made of unidirectional fibre-reinforcedlaminate. The first variation of critical loads versus some variations of the column material properties and cross-sectionaldimensions is derived. Numerical examples dealing with simply supported I-columns are...

Investigation of stability and limit load of a truss overhead opened bridge
PublikacjaThe paper presents selected methods of determining stability and limit load of a truss top chord in opened bridges. These methods include linear buckling and non-linear static analysis based on the finite element method and algorithms based on design code procedures. The described methods were tested on an example of a steel footbridge situated in Straszyn. The results of stability analysis are compared. The results of geometrical...

Flexomagnetic response of buckled piezomagnetic composite nanoplates
PublikacjaIn this paper, the equation governing the buckling of a magnetic composite plate under the influence of an in-plane one-dimensional magnetic field, assuming the concept of flexomagnetic and considering the resulting flexural force and moment, is investigated for the first time by different analytical boundary conditions. To determine the equation governing the stability of the plate, the nonlocal strain gradient theory has been...

Differential Quadrature Method for Dynamic Buckling of Graphene Sheet Coupled by a Viscoelastic Medium Using Neperian Frequency Based on Nonlocal Elasticity Theory
PublikacjaIn the present study, the dynamic buckling of the graphene sheet coupled by a viscoelastic matrix was studied. In light of the simplicity of Eringen's non-local continuum theory to considering the nanoscale influences, this theory was employed. Equations of motion and boundary conditions were obtained using Mindlin plate theory by taking nonlinear strains of von Kármán and Hamilton's principle into account. On the other hand, a...

Non-linear static stability of bi-layer carbon nanosheets resting on an elastic matrix under various types of in-plane shearing loads in thermo-elasticity using nonlocal continuum
PublikacjaIn this research, the shear and thermal buckling of bi-layer rectangular orthotropic carbon nanosheets embedded on an elastic matrix using the nonlocal elasticity theory and non-linear strains of Von-Karman was studied. The bi-layer carbon sheets were modeled as a double-layered plate, and van der Waals forces between layers were considered. The governing equations and boundary conditions were obtained using the first order shear...

Experimental study on the behaviour of steel columns under seismic-induced axial impact load
PublikacjaIt has been observed during major earthquakes that the so called soft-storey failure of an upper floor of a structure results in large impact load acting on structural members of the lower storeys. It may further lead to progressive collapse of the whole structure substantially intensifying human and material losses. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to investigate experimentally the behaviour of columns under bending (observed...

The truss linear buckling analysis and non linear static analyses with respect to material and geometrical nonlinearity are conducted. For different stiffnesses and location of braces, the critical load and limit load for the truss are calculated and the threshold bracing stiffness is found. The results of...

PublikacjaThe paper addresses the issue of local buckling of compressed flanges of cold-formed thin-walled channel columns and beams with nonstandard flanges composed of aluminium alloys. The material behaviour follows the Ramberg–Osgood law. It should be noted that the proposed solution may be also applied for other materials, for example: stainless steel, carbon steel. The paper is motivated by an increasing interest in nonstandard cold-formed...
