The vortex flow caused by sound in a bubbly liquid
PublikacjaGeneration of vorticity in the field of intense sound in a bubbly liquid in the free half-space is considered. The reasons for generation of vorticity are nonlinearity, diffraction, and dispersion. Acoustic streaming differs from that in a Newtonian fluid. Under some conditions, the vortex flow changes its direction. Conclusions concern streaming induced by a harmonic or an impulse Gaussian beam.

Oriented Gaussian beams for high-accuracy computation with accuracy control of X-ray propagation through a multi-lens system
PublikacjaA highly accurate method for calculating X-ray propagation is developed. Within this approach, the propagating wave is represented as a superposition of oriented Gaussian beams. The direction of wave propagation in each Gaussian beam agrees with the local direction of propagation of the X-ray wavefront. When calculating the propagation of X-ray waves through lenses, the thin lens approximation is applied. In this approximation,...

Histogram of Oriented Gradients with Cell Average Brightness for Human Detection
PublikacjaA modification of the descriptor in a human detector using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is presented. The proposed modification requires inserting the values of average cell brightness resulting in the increase of the descriptor length from 3780 to 3908 values, but it is easy to compute and instantly gives ≈ 25% improvement of the miss rate at 10‒4 False Positives Per Window (FPPW). The...

An improved frequency estimator for an adaptive active noise control scheme
PublikacjaAn improved frequency tracker is proposed for the recently introduced self optimizing narrowband interference canceller (SONIC). The scheme is designed for disturbances with quasi-linear frequency modulation and, under second-order Gaussian random-walk assumption, can be shown to be statistically efficient. One real-world experiment and several simulations show that a considerable improvement in disturbance rejection may be achieved...

Acoustic Streaming Induced by Periodic and Aperiodic Sound in a Bubbly Liquid
PublikacjaThe vortex ow which follows intense sound propagating in a bubbly liquid, is considered. The reasons for acoustic streaming are both nonlinearity and dispersion. That makes streaming especial as compared with that in a Newtonian uid. Conclusions concern the vortex ow induced in a half-space by initially harmonic or impulse Gaussian beam. The vortex ow recalls a turbulent ow with increasing in time number of small-scale vortices...

Review and comparison of smoothing algorithms for one-dimensional data noise reduction
PublikacjaThe paper considers the choice of parameters of smoothing algorithms for data denoising. The impact of the window size on smoothing accuracy was analyzed. The parameters of denoising filters were selected with respect to the meansquare error between the computed linear regression and the noisy signal. Finally, we have compared mean, median, SavitzkyGolay, Kalman and Gaussian filter algorithms for the data from the digital sensor....

Self-tuning adaptive frequency tracker
PublikacjaAn automatic gain tuning algorithm is proposed for a recently introduced adaptive notch filter. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that, under Gaussian random-walk type assumptions, the proposed extension is capable of adjusting adaptation gains of the filter so as to minimize the mean-squared frequency tracking error without prior knowledge of the true frequency trajectory. A simplified one degree of freedom version of...

An automatic system for identification of random telegraph signal (RTS) noise in noise signals
PublikacjaIn the paper the automatic and universal system for identification of Random Telegraph Signal (RTS) noise as a non-Gaussian component of the inherent noise signal of semiconductor devices is presented. The system for data acquisition and processing is described. Histograms of the instantaneous values of the noise signals are calculated as the basis for analysis of the noise signal to determine the number of local maxima of histograms...

ESTIMATION OF NONSTATIONARY HARMONIC SIGNALS AND ITS APPLICATION TO ACTIVE CONTROL OF MRI NOISE
PublikacjaA new adaptive comb filtering algorithm, capable of tracking the fundamental frequency and amplitudes of different frequency components of a nonstationary harmonic signal embedded in white measurement noise, is proposed. Frequency tracking characteristics of the new scheme are studied analytically, proving (under Gaussian assumptions and optimal tuning) its statistical efficiency for quasi-linear frequency changes. Laboratory tests...

Assessment of particular abdominal aorta section extraction from contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography
PublikacjaThe aim of this work is to improve the accuracy of extraction of a particular abdominal aorta section and to reduce the distortion in three-dimensional Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) images. Imaging modality and quality plays crucial role in the medical diagnostic process, thus ensuring high quality of images is essential at every stage of acquisition and processing.Noise is defined as a disturbance of the image quality...

New hybrid quadrature schemes for weakly singular kernels applied to isogeometric boundary elements for 3D Stokes flow
PublikacjaThis work proposes four novel hybrid quadrature schemes for the efficient and accurate evaluation of weakly singular boundary integrals (1/r kernel) on arbitrary smooth surfaces. Such integrals appear in boundary element analysis for several partial differential equations including the Stokes equation for viscous flow and the Helmholtz equation for acoustics. The proposed quadrature schemes apply a Duffy transform-based quadrature...

Identification of Optocoupler Devices with RTS Noise
PublikacjaThe results of noise measurements in low frequency range for CNY 17 type optocouplers are presented. The research were carried out on devices with different values of Current Transfer Ratio (CTR). The methods for identification of Random Telegraph Signal (RTS) in noise signal of optocouplers were proposed. It was found that the Noise Scattering Pattern method (NSP method) enables to identify RTS noise as non-Gaussian component...

Medley filters - simple tools for efficient signal smoothing
PublikacjaMedley filters are defined as convex combinations of elementary smoothing filters (averaging, median) with different smoothing bandwidths. It is shown that when adaptive weights of such a mixture are evaluated using the recently proposed Bayesian rules, one obtains a tool which often outperforms the state-of-the-art wavelet-based smoothing algorithms. Additionally, unlike wavelet-based procedures, medley filters can easily cope...

PublikacjaThe implementation of reliable acoustic underwater communication in shallow waters is a scientific and engineering challenge, mainly due to the permanent occurrence of the multipath phenomenon. The article presents the concept of a transmission system using a broadband signal with hyperbolically modulated frequency (HFM) to transmit data symbols and synchronize data frames. The simulation tests were carried out in channels with...

On the lower smoothing bound in identification of time-varying systems
PublikacjaIn certain applications of nonstationary system identification the model-based decisions can be postponed, i.e. executed with a delay. This allows one to incorporate in the identification process not only the currently available information, but also a number of ''future'' data points. The resulting estimation schemes, which involve smoothing, are not causal. Assuming that the infinite observation history is available, the paper...

It is assumed that the frequency of the sinusoidal disturbance is known, and that the output signal is contaminated with wideband measurement noise. The proposed controller, called SONIC (self-optimizing narrowband interference canceller), combines the coefficient fixing technique,...
