Detection Range of Intercept Sonar for CWFM Signals
PublikacjaStealth in military sonars applications may be ensured through the use of low power signals making them difficult to intercept by the enemy. In recent years, silent sonar design has been investigated by the Department of Marine Electronic Systems of the Gdansk University of Technology. This article provides an analysis of how an intercept sonar operated by the enemy can detect silent sonar signals. To that end a theoretical intercept...

Removal of sulfur from a solvent extract
PublikacjaThe presence of sulfur in a solvent extract that is to be analyzed chromatographically impairs and sometimes precludes properinterpretation of the chromatogram, as the sulfur peak masks the peaks of other compounds present in the sample, and sulfur alsodisrupts the operation of the mass detector. This means that discrepancies in the results can lead to erroneous interpretations andfalse assessments of environmental risk. For this...

More than just a beer – Brewers' spent grain, spent hops, and spent yeast as potential functional fillers for polymer composites
PublikacjaBeer is among the most popular beverages in the world, with the production distributed uniformly between the biggest continents, so the utilization of brewing by-products is essential on a global scale. Among their potential recipients, the plastics industry offers extensive range of potential products. Herein, the presented study investigated the application of currently underutilized solid brewing by-products (brewers' spent...

Compression algorithms for multibeam sonar records
PublikacjaJednym z najczęściej używanych urządzeń służących do szeroko rozumianego telemonitoringu morskiego są sonary wielowiązkowe (ang. Multibeam systems MBS).

Doppler effect in the CW FM sonar
PublikacjaWhen sonars are used for military purposes they have to ensure unobtrusive operation, a feature that can be potentially secured by 'silent sonar' or continuous wave frequency modulation sonars (CW FM sonars). The article presents how these sonars operate and identifies the relations between their parameters. The Doppler effect and its impact on the CW FM sonar are studied to identify how it affects the sonar's parameters. The results...

Acoustic Processor of the Mine Countermeasure Sonar
PublikacjaThis paper presents the concept of an acoustic processor of the mine countermeasure sonar. Developed at the Department of Marine Electronics Systems, Gdansk University of Technology, the acoustic processor is an element of the MG-89, an underwater acoustic station. The focus of the article is on the modules of the processor. They are responsible for sampling analogue signals and implementing the algorithms controlling the measurement...

INVESTIGATION INTO INTERFEROMETRIC SONAR SYSTEM ACCURACY
PublikacjaThe results of the accuracy measurements of phase differencing bathymetric sonar (PDBS) system in shallow waters are presented in the article. The measurement results were compared with the theoretical calculations for sonar system accuracy and international standards for hydrographic surveys. The proposed formulas enable to assess a priori sonar system performance using system quality factor (SQF), which takes into account influence...

Digital microcontroller for sonar waveform generator
PublikacjaGenerating sounding signals is essential for the operation of active sonar. The system should be highly reliable. This can be achieved through architecture, communication between the devices, and a well-designed and self–testing software. The system presented in the article is responsible for the generation of hydroacoustic sounding signals, and ensures proper interaction between power amplifiers and power supplies. Thanks to its...

Comparative Analysis of Salient and Non-Salient Pole Brushless Synchronous Generator for Application in Autonomous Electric Power System
PublikacjaThis paper presents a comparative study of two types of brushless synchronous generator for application in autonomous electric power systems (e.g. airplane power grid). Commercially used salient pole and a prototype non-salient pole high speed multi-pole brushless synchronous generator (BSG) have been presented. Comparative analysis of both types of the generator has been performed. Chosen simulation (using FEM and circuit models)...

Silence/noise detection for speech and music signals
PublikacjaThis paper introduces a novel off-line algorithm for silence/noise detection in noisy signals. The main concept of the proposed algorithm is to provide noise patterns for further signals processing i.e. noise reduction for speech enhancement. The algorithm is based on frequency domain characteristics of signals. The examples of different types of noisy signals are presented.

Ubiquity of client access in heterogeneous access environment
PublikacjaWith popularization of mobile computing and diverse offer of mobile devices providing functionality comparable to stationary computers, the necessity of providing network access for such users cannot be disputed. The requirement is further reinforced by emergence of general purpose mobile operating systems which provide their full functionality only with network connectivity available and popular XaaS (Anything as a Service) approach....

Client-server Approach in the Navigation System for the Blind
PublikacjaThe article presents the client‐server approach in the navigation system for the blind ‐ “Voice Maps”. The authors were among the main creators of the prototype and currently the commercialization phase is being finished. In the implemented prototype only exemplary, limited spatial data were used, therefore they could be stored and analysed (for path-finding process) in the mobile device’s memory without any difficulties. The...

ATTITUDE OF YOUTH TO SELECT SPECIALTY AND QUALITY OF EDUCATION
PublikacjaThe problems of young people guidance on the choice of profession according to the labour market requirements and the education quality are considered. The problem of youth education and employment is very topical, and in relation to vocational education the main theoretical and practical approaches to its modernization should be changed. The paper is determined the key aspects for choosing the University to receive education and...
