Sensitivity analysis of critical forces of trusses with side bracing
PublikacjaThe present research is devoted to the study of out-of-plane buckling of trusses with elastic side bracing. Inthis paper, a sensitivity analysis of critical buckling loads of a truss due to bracing stiffness is carried out. A method based on the sensitivity analysis for the determination of the threshold bracing stiffness conditionfor full bracing of a truss is proposed. The influence lines of the unit change of the bracing stiffness...

Stresses in the zone of process openings in the shell of a vertical cylindrical steel tank

The aluminium and polycarbonate covering to the roof over the stadium in Gdańsk
PublikacjaThis paper presents information about structural elements of the roof covering to the stadium in Gdansk built for the 2012 European Football Championship in Poland and the Ukraine. The paper discusses elements of the polycarbonate covering, the supporting structure and the drainage system. It also provides information about tests and research performed prior to construction, which determined the solutions adopted as well as...

Deformations of the steel schell of a vertical cylindrical tank caused by underpressure
PublikacjaUnderpressure in a tank with a fixed roof may arise in the final stage of its construction as well as during its usage. This article presents stages of deformations of the tank shell and their development from the occurrence of the first deformation to either removal of the causes of underpressure or cracking of the steel shell.

Stability and load bearing capacity of a braced truss under upward wind loading
PublikacjaThe paper is focused on the numerical and experimental investigation of stability of a steel truss under upward wind loading. The structure was stiffened by elastic braces situated at the top and bottom chord. Usually the lateral (translational) brace stiffness is considered. However, the rotational stiffness of braces caused by interaction between torsional stiffness of the truss top chord and bending stiffness of the roof elements...

Truss imperfections in the design of bar and diaphragm bracing systems
PublikacjaIn the article three variants of roof bracing were considered: bar bracing, diaphragm bracing and the combination of bar and diaphragm bracing. Different analytical and numerical ways of taking into account the imperfections of the truss girder were compared. The entire 3D model of the roof (shell and beam elements with the eccentricities taken into account) was analysed numerically. Selected stressed-skin aspects were considered....

Column base fixity in steel moment frames: Observations from instrumented buildings
PublikacjaThe rotational fixity of column base connections in Steel Moment Resisting Frames (SMRFs) strongly influences their seismic response. However, approaches for estimating base fixity have been validated only against laboratory test data. These approaches are examined based on strong motion recordings from four instrumented SMRF buildings in California to informbest practices for seismic response simulation. These buildings represent...

Effect of bulk solid on strength of cylindrical corrugated silos during filling.
PublikacjaW artykule przedstawiono wyniki MES dla metalowych silosów z blachy falistej o kształcie cylindrycznym. Obliczenia wykonano podczas stanu napełnienia silosów z uwzględnieniem materiału sypkiego. Materiały sypki został opisany hipoplastycznym modelem konstytutywnym. W obliczeniach wzięto pod uwagę wstępne imperfekcje geometryczne. Wyniki porównano dla silosów pustych. Zaobserwowano pozytywny efekt obecności materiału sypkiego.

Kinetics of Intermetallic Phase Precipitation in Manual Metal Arc Welded Duplex Stainless Steels
PublikacjaThe article presents the influence of heat treatment on the kinetics of transformations in lean duplex LDX2101 steel and a weld made of standard duplex 2209 material, which was welded by manual metal arc welding. Changes in the microstructure, hardness, and magnetic phase content were analyzed after heat treatment was conducted at a temperature of 800 °C for a period ranging from 15 to 1440 min. Light and scanning microscopy, Vickers...

Reference-free determination of debonding length in reinforced concrete beams using guided wave propagation
PublikacjaThis paper presents theoretical and experimental investigations of guided wave propagation in reinforced concrete beams, with pre-existing debonding between steel rebars and concrete blocks, for the purpose of damage detection. The primary aim of these investigations was a detailed analysis of the possible applications of wave propagation in single and multiple debonding detection in reinforced concrete structures and reference-free...

Morphology changes in Fe-Cr porous alloys upon high-temperature oxidation quantified by X-ray tomographic microscopy
PublikacjaThe effect of high-temperature oxidation at 850 C (10 h, 30 h, 100 h) and 900 C (10 h) on porous (30 % porosity) ferritic stainless steel (Fe22Cr) has been investigated using synchrotron tomographic microscopy, which allowed for visualisation, separation and quantitative analysis of the metallic core, closed pores, open pores and oxide scale phase. The same regions within the samples were investigated before and after oxidation...

Impact of Geometrical Imperfections on Estimation of Buckling and Limit Loads in a Silo Segment Using the Vibration Correlation Technique
PublikacjaThe paper examines effectiveness of the vibration correlation technique which allows determining the buckling or limit loads by means of measured natural frequencies of structures. A steel silo segment with a corrugated wall, stiffened with cold-formed channel section columns was analysed. The investigations included numerical analyses of: linear buckling, dynamic eigenvalue and geometrically static non-linear problems. Both perfect...

Standard and modified falling mass impact tests on preplaced aggregatefibrous concrete and slurry infiltrated fibrous concrete
PublikacjaAlthough several studies have been conducted to evaluate the impact response of concrete using theAmerican Concrete Institute (ACI) 544-2R falling mass impact test, the variations in test results are themain drawback of this testing method. This study aims to reduce the variations in experimental impacttest results by introducing two simple test setup modifications; (1) using coarse or fine aggregate bed-ding as an alternative...

On the correlation between magnetoacoustic emission and magnetostriction dependence on the applied magnetic field
PublikacjaThe correlation between magnetoacoustic emission signal envelopes and magnetostriction curves is investigated. Two sets of samples are being considered: tempered martensitic steel and plastically deformed ferritic steel. It is shown that even though some general relations may be observed, as was demonstrated in the literature, the correlation is not always present. One may not expect to change both quantities in the same way if...
