Acute hypoxia exerts strong effects on the cardiovascular system. Heart-generated pulsatile cerebrospinal fluid motion is recognised as a key factor ensuring brain homeostasis. We aimed to assess changes in heart-generated coupling between blood pressure and subarachnoid space width oscillations during hypoxic exposure.

  • Effects of Column Base Flexibility on Seismic Response of Steel Moment-Frame Buildings

    Publikacja

    - Rok 2022

Steel Moment Resisting Frames (SMRFs) are very popular lateral load resisting systems in many seismically active regions. However, their seismic response is strongly dependent on the rotational fixity of column base connections. Despite many studies (both experimental and numerical) in this particular area, available approaches for estimating column base flexibility have been validated only against laboratory test data. In the...

  • Column base fixity in steel moment frames: Observations from instrumented buildings

    Publikacja

    - JOURNAL OF CONSTRUCTIONAL STEEL RESEARCH - Rok 2020

The rotational fixity of column base connections in Steel Moment Resisting Frames (SMRFs) strongly influences their seismic response. However, approaches for estimating base fixity have been validated only against laboratory test data. These approaches are examined based on strong motion recordings from four instrumented SMRF buildings in California to informbest practices for seismic response simulation. These buildings represent...

  • Effect of excitation intensity on slope stability assessed by a simplified approach

    Publikacja

    - Earthquakes and Structures - Rok 2021

The paper concerns the selection of a design accelerograms used for the slope stability assessment under earthquake excitation. The aim is to experimentally verify the Arias Intensity as an indicator of the excitation threat to the slope stability. A simple dynamic system consisting of a rigid block on a rigid inclined plane subjected to horizontal excitation is adopted as a slope model. Strong ground motions recorded during earthquakes...

  • Dynamic mass measurement in checkweighers using a discrete time-variant low-pass filter

Conveyor belt type checkweighers are complex mechanical systems consisting of a weighing sensor (strain gauge load cell, electrodynamically compensated load cell), packages (of different shapes, made of different materials) and a transport system (motors, gears, rollers). Disturbances generated by the vibrating parts of such a system are reflected in the signal power spectra in a form of strong spectral peaks, located usually in...

  • Colorings of the Strong Product of Circulant Graphs

    Publikacja
    • M. Jurkiewicz

    - Rok 2012

Graph coloring is one of the famous problems in graph theory and it has many applications to information theory. In the paper we present colorings of the strong product of several circulant graphs.

  • Dynamical objectivity in quantum Brownian motion

    Publikacja

Classical objectivity as a property of quantum states —a view proposed to explain the observer-independent character of our world from quantum theory, is an important step in bridging the quantum-classical gap. It was recently derived in terms of spectrum broadcast structures for small objects embedded in noisy photon-like environments. However, two fundamental problems have arisen: a description of objective motion and applicability...

  • A New Method for Automatic Generation of Animated Motion

    Publikacja

    - Rok 2012

A new method for generation of animation with a quality comparable to a natural motion is presented. Proposed algorithm is based on fuzzy description of motion parameters and subjective features. It is assumed that such processing increases naturalness and quality of motion, which is verified by subjective evaluation tests. First, reference motion data are gathered utilizing a motion capture system, then these data are reduced...

  • Homoclinics for singular strong force Lagrangian systems

    Publikacja

We study the existence of homoclinic solutions for a class of generalized Lagrangian systems in the plane, with a C1-smooth potential with a single well of infinite depth at a point ξ and a unique strict global maximum 0 at the origin.Under a strong force condition around the singular point ξ, via minimization of an action integral, we will prove the existence of at least two geometrically distinct homoclinic solutions.

  • On the independence number of some strong products of cycle-powers

In the paper we give some theoretical and computational results on the third strong power of cycle-powers, for example, we have found the independence numbers alpha((C^2_10)^⊠3) = 30 and alpha((C^4 _14)^⊠3) = 14. A number of optimizations have been introduced to improve the running time of our exhaustive algorithm used to establish the independence number of the third strong power of cycle-powers. Moreover, our results establish...

  • NEW DESIGNS OF MAGNETIC FLUID SEALS FOR RECIPROCATING MOTION

T he operating conditions of magnetic fluid seals during reciprocating motion are so different from those observed in rotating motion that the use of their conventional structures for reciprocating motion seals yields no good results. The analysis of the sealing mechanism of magnetic fluid seals in reciprocating motion shows that the operation of these seals is affected by the carry-over phenomenon and magnetic fluid...

  • Longitudinal Motion Due to Action of Tunnel Thrusters

    Publikacja

Tunnel thrusters are propulsion and active control devises that provide a side force, or transverse thrust, to support mooring operations or position keeping. They shorten the time of manoeuvring, reduce the cost of towage and since inception, manoeuvrability specifically in ports has become a lot easier. Tunnel thrusters can either be operated manually or with the help of Dynamic Positioning systems which makes it even more efficient. Theoretically,...

  • Identification of hydroacoustic wave sources of ship in motion

    Publikacja

    - Polish Maritime Research - Rok 2010

This paper deals with results of identification tests of acoustic field spectrum of underwater noise generated by ship in motion. The field is connected with acoustic activity of ship mechanisms and devices in operation. Vibration energy generated by the mechanisms and devices is transferred through ship structural elements to surrounding water where it propagates in the form of acoustic waves of a broad band of frequencies. In...
