Numerical analysis of elastic wave propagation in unbounded structures
PublikacjaThe main objective of this paper is to show the effectiveness and usefulness of the concept of an absorbing layer with increasing damping (ALID) in numerical investigations of elastic wave propagation in unbounded engineering structures. This has been achieved by the authors by a careful investigation of three different types of structures characterised by gradually increasing geometrical and mathematical description complexities....

COMPARISON OF INFINITE ELEMENT MODELS
PublikacjaThe main objective of this paper is to show the comparison of two models of infinite ab- sorbing layer with increasing damping in numerical investigations of elastic wave prop- agation in unbounded structures. This has been achieved by the Authors by a careful in- vestigation of two different engineering structures characterised by gradually increasing geometrical and mathematical description complexities. The analysis included...

Topological degree for equivariant gradient perturbations of an unbounded self-adjoint operator in Hilbert space
PublikacjaWe present a version of the equivariant gradient degree defined for equivariant gradient perturbations of an equivariant unbounded self-adjoint operator with purely discrete spectrum in Hilbert space. Two possible applications are discussed.

Existence of solutions with an exponential growth for nonlinear differential-functional parabolic equations
PublikacjaWe consider the Cauchy problem for nonlinear parabolic equations with functional dependence. We prove Schauder-type existence results for unbounded solutions. We also prove existence of maximal solutions for a wide class of differential functional equations.

The saga of a fish: from a survival guide to closing lemmas
PublikacjaIn the paper by D. Burago, S. Ivanov and A. Novikov, “A survival guide for feeble fish”, it has been shown that a fish with limited velocity can reach any point in the (possibly unbounded) ocean provided that the fluid velocity field is incompressible, bounded and has vanishing mean drift. This result extends some known global controllability theorems though being substantially nonconstructive. We give a fish a different recipe...

A Generalized Version of the Lions-Type Lemma
PublikacjaIn this short paper, I recall the history of dealing with the lack of compactness of a sequence in the case of an unbounded domain and prove the vanishing Lions-type result for a sequence of Lebesgue-measurable functions. This lemma generalizes some results for a class of Orlicz–Sobolev spaces. What matters here is the behavior of the integral, not the space

Existence of unbounded solutions to parabolic equations with functional dependence
PublikacjaThe Cauchy problem for nonlinear parabolic differential-functional equations is considered. Under natural generalized Lipschitz-type conditions with weights, the existence and uniqueness of unbounded solutions is obtained in three main cases: (i) the functional dependence u(·); (ii) the functional dependence u(·) and ∂xu(·); (iii) the functional dependence u(·)and the pointwise dependence ∂xu(t,x).

Different types of solvability conditions for differential operators
PublikacjaSolvability conditions for linear differential equations are usually formulated in terms of orthogonality of the right-hand side to solutions of the homogeneous adjoint equation. However, if the corresponding operator does not satisfy the Fredholm property such solvability conditions may be not applicable. For this case, we obtain another type of solvability conditions, for ordinary differential equations on the real axis, and...

Quantum communication complexity advantage implies violation of a Bell inequality
PublikacjaWe obtain a general connection between a quantum advantage in communication complexity and non-locality. We show that given any protocol offering a (sufficiently large) quantum advantage in communication complexity, there exists a way of obtaining measurement statistics which violate some Bell inequality. Our main tool is port-based teleportation. If the gap between quantum and classical communication complexity can grow arbitrarily...

Acoustic Heating Produced in the Thermoviscous Flow of a Shear-Thinning Fluid
PublikacjaThis study is devoted to the instantaneous acoustic heating of a shear-thinningfluid. Apparent viscosity of a shear-thinning fluid depends on the shear rate. Thatfeature distinguishes it from a viscous Newtonian fluid. The special linear combi-nation of conservation equations in the differential form makes it possible to derivedynamic equations governing both the sound and non-wave entropy mode inducedin the field of sound. These...

Realistic noise-tolerant randomness amplification using finite number of devices
PublikacjaRandomness is a fundamental concept, with implications from security of modern data systems, to fundamental laws of nature and even the philosophy of science. Randomness is called certified if it describes events that cannot be pre-determined by an external adversary. It is known that weak certified randomness can be amplified to nearly ideal randomness using quantum-mechanical systems. However, so far, it was unclear whether randomness amplification...

Billiard in a rotating half-plane
PublikacjaThe main objective of this research is to study the properties of a billiard system in an unbounded domain with moving boundary. We consider a system consisting of an infinite rod (a straight line) and a ball (a massless point) on the plane. The rod rotates uniformly around one of its points and experiences elastic collisions with the ball. We define a mathematical model for the dynamics of such a system and write down asymptotic...

Quantum Steering Inequality with Tolerance for Measurement-Setting Errors: Experimentally Feasible Signature of Unbounded Violation
Publikacjauantum steering is a relatively simple test for proving that the values of quantum-mechanical measurement outcomes come into being only in the act of measurement. By exploiting quantum correlations, Alice can influence — steer — Bob ’ s physical system in a way that is impossible in classical mechanics, as shown by the violation of steering inequalities. Demonstrating this and similar quantum effects for systems of increasing size,...

Effect of Temperature and Nanoparticle Concentration on Free Convective Heat Transfer of Nanofluids
PublikacjaA theoretical analysis of the influence of temperature and nanoparticle concentration on free convection heat transfer from a horizontal tube immersed in an unbounded nanofluid was presented. The Nusselt (Nu) number and heat transfer coefficient were parameters of the intensity of the convective heat transfer. For free convection, the Nu number was a function of the Rayleigh (Ra) number and Prandtl (Pr) number. The Rayleigh (Ra)...

Wild oscillations in a nonlinear neuron model with resets: (II) Mixed-mode oscillations
PublikacjaThis work continues the analysis of complex dynamics in a class of bidimensional nonlinear hybrid dynamical systems with resets modeling neuronal voltage dynamics with adaptation and spike emission. We show that these models can generically display a form of mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs), which are trajectories featuring an alternation of small oscillations with spikes or bursts (multiple consecutive spikes). The mechanism by...

Reshaping financial systems: The role of ICT in the diffusion of financial innovations – Recent evidence from European countries
PublikacjaExchange-traded funds (ETFs) are among the fastest-growing types of innovative financial products. The emergence and spread of these instruments have been facilitated by the digital revolution. Information and communication technology (ICT) is profoundly reshaping the global economic landscape, laying solid foundations for unrestricted and unbounded flows of information and knowledge, eliminating information asymmetries, and furthering...

A Framework for Searching in Graphs in the Presence of Errors
PublikacjaWe consider a problem of searching for an unknown target vertex t in a (possibly edge-weighted) graph. Each vertex-query points to a vertex v and the response either admits that v is the target or provides any neighbor s of v that lies on a shortest path from v to t. This model has been introduced for trees by Onak and Parys [FOCS 2006] and for general graphs by Emamjomeh-Zadeh et al. [STOC 2016]. In the latter, the authors provide...

Li nucleation on the graphite anode under potential control in Li-ion batteries
PublikacjaApplication of Li-ion batteries in electric vehicles requires improved safety, increased lifetime and high charging rates. One of the most commonly used intercalation anode material for Li-ion batteries, graphite, is vulnerable to Li nucleation, a side reaction which competes with the intercalation process and leads to loss of reversible capacity of the battery, ageing and short-circuits. In this study, we deploy a combined grand...
