Scalable Maintenance of Address Mapping and Autodetecion in Environments Where Agents are Uncapable of Self-Registration
PublicationWhen working with multi-agent systems it is often desirable to manage the agent set. The existing methods of central monitoring stems from two different fields of application. The first has its roots in in computer network monitoring, the other in mutli-agent simulation environments. Both approaches are not general enough to cater for loosely controlled environments, where the total agent population is not known and often fluctuating,...

The effect of new non-cross resistant antitumor agents on the energy state of human erythrocytes

Bee Products and Essential Oils as Alternative Agents for Treatment of Infections Caused by S. aureus
PublicationBacteria of the genus Staphylococcus are important human and veterinary pathogens. A crucial characteristic for this group of bacteria is that they can easily acquire mechanisms of antibiotic resistance for a plethora of antibiotics currently in use for human and animal therapies. Therefore, there is a great need to find novel, non-antibiotic chemotherapeutics with marked antistaphylococcal activity. Promising but still underestimated...

Elucidation of chemical compounds in different extracts of two Lavandula taxa and their biological potentials: Walking with versatile agents on the road from nature to functional applications
PublicationDue to their health-promoting and nutraceutical properties, lavenders are frequently employed in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Here, we focused on investigate the chemical profile of hexane, MeOH, and water extracts of leaf, flower, and root of L. pedunculata and L. stoechas and to assess their antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, and antibacterial properties. The highest total polyphenolic and flavonoids contents were recorded...

One-Step Synthesis of W/O and O/W Emulsifiers in the Presence of Surface Active Agents
PublicationThe main goal of this study was to describe the method of the synthesis of the dodecyl-, tetradecyl-, hexadecyl- and octadecyl-propylene glycol emulsifiers in the presence of selected anionic and nonionic surfactants. Acyl propylene glycol emulsifiers were produced by esterification of propane-1,2-diol (propylene glycol, PG) with C12:0-C18:0 fatty acids in the presence of anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and nonionic-poly(ethylene...

Synthesis and biological activity of ester derivatives of mycophenolic acid and acridines/acridones as potential immunosuppressive agents
PublicationImproved derivatives of mycophenolic acid (MPA) are necessary to reduce the frequency of adverse effects, this drug exerts in treated patients. In this study, MPA was coupled with N-(x-hydroxyalkyl)-9-acridone-4-carboxamides or N-(x-hydroxyalkyl)acridine-4-carboxamides to give respective ester conjugates upon Yamaguchi protocol. This esterification required protection of phenol group in MPA. Designed conjugates revealed higher...

Bacterial cellulose vs. bacterial cellulose nanocrystals as stabilizer agents for O/W pickering emulsions
PublicationThe growing interest in Pickering emulsions in functional food systems resulted in the need to find suitable stabilizers for them. The work considers the use of bacterial cellulose for this purpose, and its aim was to compare the properties of disintegrated bacterial cellulose, before and after freeze-drying, and its nanocrystals obtained using H2SO4 under variable of time and concentration conditions. The structure of nanocrystals...

Interaction of cisplatin and two potential antitumoral platinum(ii) complexes with a model lipid membrane: a combined NMR and MD study
PublicationIn this study, the interaction of cisplatin (1) and two potential antitumoral Pt(II) complexes (2 and 3) with a model DMPC bilayer was investigated by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and MD simulations in order to understand its implication for the different antitumoral properties shown by the three complexes. In particular, 31P, 13C and 2H solid state NMR experiments were performed to obtain information on the phase structure, phase...

Chloroacridine derivatives as potential anticancer agents which may act as tricarboxylic acid cycle enzyme inhibitors
PublicationThe chloroacridines affect biological forms of melanoma in different ways. Amelanotic (Ab) melanoma (with inhibited melanogenesis and higher malignancy) was particularly sensitive to the action of the chloroacridines. The Ab melanoma cells died through apoptosis and through death without caspase activation. Diminished activity of TAC enzymes was noticed among Ab melanoma cells together with ATP/NAD depletion, especially in the...

Metabolic Profiles of New Unsymmetrical Bisacridine Antitumor Agents in Electrochemical and Enzymatic Noncellular Systems and in Tumor Cells
PublicationNew unsymmetrical bisacridines (UAs) demonstrated high activity not only against a set of tumor cell lines but also against human tumor xenografts in nude mice. Representative UA compounds, named C-2028, C-2045 and C-2053, were characterized in respect to their physicochemical properties and the following studies aimed to elucidate the role of metabolic transformations in UAs action. We demonstrated with phase I and phase II enzymes...

Design of new cholinesterase inhibitors based on phosphorus analogs of tacrine as potential anti-Alzheimer’s disease agents
PublicationBased on the analysis of the determined free binding energy (using the AutoDock Vina 1.1.2 docking program), the most potent cholinesterase inhibitors were selected. Moreover, studies of 3D visualization of the results of molecular modeling led to the identification of potential sites for the interaction of new potential inhibitors with amino acid residues building active sites of investigated cholinesterases.
