A simple test for quantum channel capacity
PublicationBased on state and channel isomorphism we point out that semidefiniteprogramming can be used as a quick test for nonzero one-way quantum channelcapacity. This can be achieved by searching for symmetric extensions of statesisomorphic to a given quantum channel. With this method we provide examplesof quantum channels that can lead to high entanglement transmission but stillhave zero one-way capacity, in particular, regions of symmetric...

Decoherence-free communication over multiaccess quantum channels
PublicationIn this paper we consider decoherence-free communication over multiple access and k-user quantum channels. First, we concentrate on a hermitian unitary noise model U for a two-access bi-unitary channel and show that in this case a decoherence-free code exists if the space of Schmidt matrices of an eigensubspace of U exhibits certain properties of decomposability. Then, we show that our technique is also applicable for generic random unitary...

Schemes of transmission of classical information via quantum channels with many senders: Discrete- and continuous-variable cases
PublicationSuperadditivity effects in the classical capacity of discrete multiaccess channels and continuous variable (CV) Gaussian MACs are analyzed. Several examples of the manifestation of superadditivity in the discrete case are provided, including, in particular, a channel which is fully symmetric with respect to all senders. Furthermore, we consider a class of channels for which input entanglement across more than two copies of the...

Aspects of multistation quantum information broadcasting
PublicationWe study quantum information transmission over multiparty quantum channel. In particular, we show an equivalence of different capacity notions and provide a multiletter characterization of a capacity region for a general quantum channel with k senders and m receivers. We point out natural generalizations to the case of two-way classical communication capacity. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Dynamics of quantum entanglement
PublicationA model of discrete dynamics of entanglement of a bipartite quantum state is considered. It involves a global unitary dynamics of the system and periodic actions of local bistochastic or decaying channel. For initially pure states the decay of entanglement is accompanied by an increase of von Neumann entropy of the system. We observe and discuss revivals of entanglement due to unitary interaction of subsystems. For some mixed states...

Efficient bounds on quantum-communication rates via their reduced variants
PublicationWe investigate one-way communication scenarios where Bob operating on his component can transfer some subsystem to the environment. We define reduced versions of quantum-communication rates and, further, prove upper bounds on a one-way quantum secret key, distillable entanglement, and quantum-channel capacity by means of their reduced versions. It is shown that in some cases they drastically improve their estimation.

Quantum key distribution based on private states: Unconditional security over untrusted channels with zero quantum capacity
PublicationIn this paper, we prove unconditional security for a quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol based on distilling pbits (twisted ebits) from an arbitrary untrusted state that is claimed to contain distillable key. Our main result is that we can verify security using only public communication-via parameter estimation of the given untrusted state. The technique applies even to bound-entangled states, thus extending QKD to the regime...

On symmetric extendibility of quantum states and its applications
PublicationThis dissertation is focused on analysis of the symmetric extendibility of quantum states and its applications in the quantum information theory, with special attention paid to the area of quantum entanglement distillation, quantum channels theory, quantum security, and monogamy of quantum entanglement in time. We analyze geometry of the set of symmetric extendible states, i.e. such states that possess symmetric extensions and...

Towards Resource Theory of Coherence in Distributed Scenarios
PublicationThe search for a simple description of fundamental physical processes is an important part of quantum theory. One example for such an abstraction can be found in the distance lab paradigm: if two separated parties are connected via a classical channel, it is notoriously difficult to characterize all possible operations these parties can perform. This class of operations is widely known as local operations and classical communication....

Progress towards a unified approach to entanglement distribution
PublicationEntanglement distribution is key to the success of secure communication schemes based on quantum mechanics, and there is a strong need for an ultimate architecture able to overcome the limitations of recent proposals such as those based on entanglement percolation or quantum repeaters. In this work we provide a broad theoretical background for the development of such technologies. In particular, we investigate the question of whether...

Spontaneous electron emission vs dissociation in internally hot silver dimer anions
PublicationReferring to a recent experiment, we theoretically study the process of a two-channel decay of the diatomic silver anion (Ag2-), namely the spontaneous electron ejection giving Ag2 + e- and the dissociation leading to Ag- + Ag. The ground state potential energy curves of the silver molecules of diatomic neutral and negative ion were calculated using proper pseudo-potentials and atomic basis sets. We also estimated the non-adiabatic...

Hydroperoxyl radical and formic acid formation from common DNA stabilizers upon low energy electron attachment
Publication2-Amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (TRIS) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) are key components of biological buffers and are frequently used as DNA stabilizers in irradiation studies. Such surface or liquid phase studies are done with the aim to understand the fundamental mechanisms of DNA radiation damage and to improve cancer radiotherapy. When ionizing radiation is used, abundant secondary electrons are formed...

Electron-Induced Decomposition of 5-Bromo-4-thiouracil and 5-Bromo-4-thio-2′-deoxyuridine: The Effect of the Deoxyribose Moiety on Dissociative Electron Attachment
PublicationWhen modified uridine derivatives are incorporated into DNA, radical species may form that cause DNA damage. This category of molecules has been proposed as radiosensitizers and is currently being researched. Here, we study electron attachment to 5-bromo-4-thiouracil (BrSU), a uracil derivative, and 5-bromo-4-thio-20 -deoxyuridine (BrSdU), with an attached deoxyribose moiety via the N-glycosidic (N1-C) bond. Five wellresolved two-body dissociation channels have...

Hybrid P3HT: PCBM/GaN nanowire/Si cascade heterojunction for photovoltaic application
PublicationPoly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) are commonly used for the fabrication of organic photovoltaics (OPV). Efficiency limitations of OPVs could be circumvented by incorporation of inorganic nanostructures into organic blends. Again, integration of organic solar cells with well-developed silicon photovoltaic technology is ultimately desirable. In present work, GaN nanowires with diameters...
