Estimation of a smoothness parameter by spline wavelets
PublicationWe consider the smoothness parameter s*(f) of a function f∈L2(R) in terms of Besov spaces. The existing results on estimation of smoothness [K. Dziedziul, M. Kucharska and B. Wolnik, J. Nonparametric Statist. 23 (2011)] employ the Haar basis and are limited to the case 0

Multiresolution analysis and adaptive estimation on a sphere using stereographic wavelets
PublicationWe construct an adaptive estimator of a density function on d dimensional unit sphere Sd (d ≥ 2), using a new type of spherical frames. The frames, or as we call them, stereografic wavelets are obtained by transforming a wavelet system, namely Daubechies, using some stereographic operators. We prove that our estimator achieves an optimal rate of convergence on some Besov type class of functions by adapting to unknown smoothness....

Automatic Correction of Non-Anechoic Antenna Measurements Using Complex Morlet Wavelets
PublicationReal-world performance of antennas is normally tested in anechoic chambers (ACs). Alternatively, experimental validation can be performed in non-anechoic environments and refined in the course of post-processing. Unfortunately, the existing methods are difficult to setup and prone to failure. In this letter, a wavelet-based framework for correction of non-anechoic antenna measurements has been proposed. The method involves automatic...

Application of splines and wavelets along with TIN decimation to 3D imagingof seafloor from multibeam sonar data

Density smoothness estimation problem using a wavelet approach
PublicationIn this paper we consider a smoothness parameter estimation problem for a density function. The smoothness parameter of a function is defined in terms of Besov spaces. This paper is an extension of recent results (K. Dziedziul, M. Kucharska, B. Wolnik, Estimation of the smoothness parameter ). The construction of the estimator is based on wavelets coefficients. Although we believe that the effective estimation of the smoothness...

Method for Clustering of Brain Activity Data Derived from EEG Signals
PublicationA method for assessing separability of EEG signals associated with three classes of brain activity is proposed. The EEG signals are acquired from 23 subjects, gathered from a headset consisting of 14 electrodes. Data are processed by applying Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for the signal analysis and an autoencoder neural network for the brain activity separation. Processing involves 74 wavelets from 3 DWT families: Coiflets,...

Development of fragility curves in adjacent steel moment-resisting frames considering pounding effects through improved wavelet-based refined damage-sensitive feature
PublicationFragility curves present useful information related to earthquake-induced probability assessment of steel moment-resisting frames (MRFs) and determine the probability of the damage exceedance at different floor levels of MRFs. The review of the literature shows that most of the previous studies dealing with the fragility curves were based on conventional measures, such as spectral acceleration at the first mode period, peak...

Combined spline wavelet decomposition for 3d seafloor imaging from multibeam sonar echoes
PublicationThe paper proposes combined spline-wavelet approach to the raw echoes seaflor imaging from Multibeam Sonar System (MBSS) records. Wavelet representation is closely related to image representation, due to its unique approximations properties. Splines have the best approximation properties among all known wavelets of a given order, so they are best suited for approximating of smooth seafloor surface. Additionaly, wavelet bases have...

Automatic Clustering of EEG-Based Data Associated with Brain Activity
PublicationThe aim of this paper is to present a system for automatic assigning electroencephalographic (EEG) signals to appropriate classes associated with brain activity. The EEG signals are acquired from a headset consisting of 14 electrodes placed on skull. Data gathered are first processed by the Independent Component Analysis algorithm to obtain estimates of signals generated by primary sources reflecting the activity of the brain....

Playback detection using machine learning with spectrogram features approach
PublicationThis paper presents 2D image processing approach to playback detection in automatic speaker verification (ASV) systems using spectrograms as speech signal representation. Three feature extraction and classification methods: histograms of oriented gradients (HOG) with support vector machines (SVM), HAAR wavelets with AdaBoost classifier and deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) were compared on different data partitions in respect...

Detection of Delamination in Laminate Wind Turbine Blades Using One-Dimensional Wavelet Analysis of Modal Responses
PublicationThis paper demonstrates the effectiveness of a nondestructive diagnostic technique used to determine the location and size of delamination in laminated coatings of wind turbine blades. This is realized based on results of numerical and experimental investigations obtained by the use of the finite element method (FEM) and laser scanning vibrometry (LSV). The proposed method is based on the one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform...

Modelling of wastewater treatment plant for monitoring and control purposes by state - space wavelet networks
PublicationMost of industrial processes are nonlinear, not stationary, and dynamical with at least few different time scales in their internal dynamics and hardly measured states. A biological wastewater treatment plant falls into this category. The paper considers modelling such processes for monitorning and control purposes by using State - Space Wavelet Neural Networks (SSWN). The modelling method is illustrated based on bioreactors of...

Development of globalization in culture on the example of Europe
PublicationThis article attempts to reflect on the consequences of cultural globalization i.e. the opporturnities and threats that exist it brings with it for existing local cultures. As we know, The processes of globalization contribute to the emergence of any, often contradictory phenomena in the field of culture which influence the existing local cultural systems in various ways. It is assumed that the most important consequence of cultural...

Impact of slow breathing on the blood pressure and subarachnoid space width oscillations in humans
PublicationThe aim of the study was to assess cardiac and respiratory blood pressure (BP) and subarachnoid space (SAS) width oscillations during the resting state for slow and fast breathing and breathing against inspiratory resistance. Experiments were performed on a group of 20 healthy volunteers (8 males and 12 females; age 25.3 ± 7.9 years; BMI = 22.1 ± 3.2 kg/m2). BP and heart rate (HR) were measured using continuous finger-pulse photoplethysmography....
