Application of wavelength division multiplexing in sensor networks
PublicationOver the past few years the need to acquire data on various parameters from a number of sensors grew. The need that led to the development of a network of sensors which enables simultaneous control and measurement in a wide range of applications. The aim of this article is to discuss a possibility of connecting a variety of sensors in a network that would utilize WDM technology. Wavelength Division Multiplexing is commonly used...

The Transmission Protocol of Sensor Ad Hoc Networks
PublicationThis paper presents a secure protocol for a radio Ad Hoc sensor network. This network uses the TDMA multiple access method. The transmission rate on the radio channel is 57.6 kbps. The paper presents the construction of frames, types of packets and procedures for the authentication, assignment of time slots available to the node, releasing assigned slots and slots assignment conflict detection.

Transmission Protocol Simulation Framework For The Resource-Constrained Wireless Sensor Network
PublicationIn this paper a prototype framework for simulation of wireless sensor network and its protocols are presented. The framework simulates operation of a sensor network with data transmission, which enables simultaneous development of the sensor network software, its hardware and the protocols for wireless data transmission. An advantage of using the framework is converging simulation with the real software. Instead of creating...

Remote Monitoring System for Impedance Spectroscopy using Wireless Sensor Network
PublicationThe architecture of a miniaturized impedanceanalyser with wireless communication module for remoteImpedance Spectroscopy (IS) of anticorrosion coatings ondifficult-to-reach objects (e.g. on the steel construction ofthe bridge) is described in this paper. Some practical aspectsof implementation of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) arealso discussed. A low scale, middle range, WSN networkcomposed of a Base Station (BS) with a Personal...

Cost minimization in wireless networks with a bounded and unbounded number of interfaces
PublicationPraca dotyczy problemu minimalizacji energii poprzez selektywne odłączanie urządzeń komunikacyjnych w wielointerfejsowych sieciach bezprzewodowych w taki sposób, by zapewnić realizację wymaganego grafu połączeń. Sformułowano problem optymalizacyjny, podano wyniki dotyczące jego trudności i zaproponowano algorytmy optymalizacyjne. Rozważono zarówno wariant, w którym liczba interfejsów komunikacyjnych jest parametrem stałym (narzuconym...

A new approach to design of weather disruption-tolerant wireless mesh networks
PublicationWireless Mesh Networks, offering transmission rates of 1–10 Gb/s per a millimeter-wave link (utilizing the 71–86 GHz band) seem to be a promising alternative to fiber optic backbone metropolitan area networks because of significantly lower costs of deployment and maintenance. However, despite providing high transmission rates in good weather conditions, high-frequency wireless links are very susceptible to weather disruptions....

A Novel Bitrate Adaptation Method for Heterogeneous Wireless Body Area Networks
PublicationIn the article, a novel bitrate adaptation method for data streams allocation in heterogeneous Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) is presented. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was compared with other known algorithms of data stream allocation using computer simulation. A dedicated simulator has been developed using results of measurements in the real environment. The usage of the proposed adaptive data streams allocation...

Mitigating Traffic Remapping Attacks in Autonomous Multi-hop Wireless Networks
PublicationMultihop wireless networks with autonomous nodes are susceptible to selfish traffic remapping attacks (TRAs). Nodes launching TRAs leverage the underlying channel access function to receive an unduly high Quality of Service (QoS) for packet flows traversing source-to-destination routes. TRAs are easy to execute, impossible to prevent, difficult to detect, and harmful to the QoS of honest nodes. Recognizing the need for providing...

Eventual Convergence of the Reputation-Based Algorithm in IoT Sensor Networks
PublicationUncertainty in dense heterogeneous IoT sensor networks can be decreased by applying reputation-inspired algorithms, such as the EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) algorithm, which is widely used in social networks. Despite its popularity, the eventual convergence of this algorithm for the purpose of IoT networks has not been widely studied, and results of simulations are often taken in lieu of the more rigorous proof....

Gesture Recognition With the Linear Optical Sensor and Recurrent Neural Networks
PublicationIn this paper, the optical linear sensor, a representative of low-resolution sensors, was investigated in the multiclass recognition of near-field hand gestures. The recurrent neural network (RNN) with a gated recurrent unit (GRU) memory cell was utilized as a gestures classifier. A set of 27 gestures was collected from a group of volunteers. The 27 000 sequences obtained were divided into training, validation, and test subsets....

Deep Learning-Based LOS and NLOS Identification in Wireless Body Area Networks
PublicationIn this article, the usage of deep learning (DL) in ultra-wideband (UWB) Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) is presented. The developed approach, using channel impulse response, allows higher efficiency in identifying the direct visibility conditions between nodes in off-body communication with comparison to the methods described in the literature. The effectiveness of the proposed deep feedforward neural network was checked on...

On the fast BSS transition algorithms in the IEEE 802.11r local area wireless networks
PublicationHandover performance is critical to support multimedia services that are becoming increasingly available over the wireless devices. The high transition delay can be unaccepted for such services or can be a source of disruption on the session. On the other side, IEEE 802.11 standard is being extended with new functionalities. Security and QoS features, included in recent IEEE 802.11-2007 standard, add management frames that are...

Router Selfishness in Community Wireless Mesh Networks: Cross-Layer Benefits and Harms
W pracy przebadano symulacyjnie wybrane aspekty środowiska mesh uzasadniające podjęcie ataków egoistycznych i zidentyfikowano trzy: gęstość rozmieszczenia i położenie routerów oraz warstwa OSI...

A Reputation Scheme to Discourage Selfish QoS Manipulation in Two-Hop Wireless Relay Networks
PublicationIn wireless networks, stations can improve their received quality of service (QoS) by handling packets of source flows with higher priority. Additionally, in cooperative relay networks, the relays can handle transit flows with lower priority. We use game theory to model a two-hop relay network where each of the two involved stations can commit such selfish QoS manipulation. We design and evaluate a reputation-based incentive scheme...
