A more colorful hat problem
PublicationThe topic is the hat problem in which each of n players is randomly fitted with a blue or red hat. Then everybody can try to guess simultaneously his own hat color by looking at the hat colors of the other players. The team wins if at least one player guesses his hat color correctly, and no one guesses his hat color wrong; otherwise the team loses. The aim is to maximize the probability of winning. We consider a generalized hat...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions Derived Based on Pauli Matrices Algebra
PublicationIn this letter, we demonstrate that a set of absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) for numerical simulations of waves, proposed originally by Engquist and Majda and later generalized by Trefethen and Halpern, can alternatively be derived with the use of Pauli matrices algebra. Hence a novel approach to the derivation of one-way wave equations in electromagnetics is proposed. That is, the classical wave equation can be factorized...

Application of the expanded clay aggregate in form of granular materials for water treatment
PublicationThe paper aimed to evaluate the efficiency of Filtralite MonoMulti compared to the conventional dual-media filter beds comprising silica sand layer covered with anthracite coal. Filtralite media are composed of processed (expanded), highly porous clay products characterized by relatively rough grain surfaces. In order to compare these different media filters in a reliable way, the pilot filter columns operated in parallel, under...

The concept of aida applied to online interactive advertisement: an youtube case study
PublicationThis paper presents an approach of application of the AIDA framework to interactive advertisements presented on social media channels. The first section introduces the definitions of social media and its categorization. It is given an overview of the online video service YouTube.com. The second section describes social media marketing. The third section presents a theoretical introduction of traditional and interactive advertisement....

Identification of quasi-periodically varying systems with quasi-linear frequency changes
PublicationThe problem of identification of linear quasi-periodically varying systems is considered. This problem can be solved using generalized adaptive notch filtering (GANF) algorithms. It is shown that accuracy of system parameter estimation can be increased if the results obtained from GANF are further processed using a cascade of appropriately designed filters. The resulting generalized adaptive notch smoothing (GANS) algorithms can...

Analysing selection of low-temperature medium for cogeneration micro power plant
PublicationThe article analyses the ORC system working with dry and wet low-boiling media which are most frequently used in installations of this type. Two types of cycles were examined, which were the cycle with heat regeneration for dry media: fc72, hfe7100, R227ea, R245fa, R423a and R600a, and the cycle without heat regeneration for wet media: R11, R12, R134a, R718 and 507a. The calculations were performed for the assumed required thermal...

Architektura medialna : kierunki rozwoju w kontekście sztuki i technologii
Zarysowany zostanie kontekst rozwoju...

Analog modelling in qualitative analysis of vibration propagation
PublicationThe theory of dynamic systems is usually used to model the real systems. The models are based on solving ordinary differential equations, partial or difference, which enable obtaining the relation between input signal and the system response (output signal). The analogy between those models and generalized dynamic systems or control systems can be practically used. Vibration propagation can be described in a similar way as the...

Just Let Me Think: Designing Against Acquired Illiteracy.
PublicationThis article concerns the relatively new problem of illiteracy relating to persons previously being literate, which is caused by too intensive using of so-called digital media (TV, computers, tablets, smartphones, e-book readers, portable media players, etc.). The problem has been observed for several years mainly in countries with high economic and technological development. The widespread use of digital media and the ease of...

Harmonic Vibrations of Nanosized Magnetoelectric Bodies with Coupled Surface and Interphase Effects: Mathematical Models and Finite Element Approaches
PublicationThe harmonic problems for piezomagnetoelectric nanosized bodies with taking into account the coupled damping and surface effects are considered on the base of the generalized Gurtin-Murdoch model. In the development of previous investigations, the coupled mechanical, electric and magnetic surface effects with surface inertial terms are introduced into the model. For a homogeneous model, the composite material is considered as homogeneous...

Second-order Stark effect and polarizability of a relativistic two-dimensional hydrogenlike atom in the ground state
PublicationThe second-order Stark effect for a planar Dirac one-electron atom in the ground state is analyzed within the framework of the Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory, with the use of the Sturmian series expansion of the generalized Dirac-Coulomb Green's function. A closed-form analytical expression for the static dipole polarizability of that system is found. The formula involves the generalized hypergeometric function ${}_{3}F_{2}$...
