Thermal and technological aspects of double face grinding of C45 carbon steel
PublicationIn grinding, the contact zone temperature is a decisive factor influencing the achievable surface quality and the grinding tool wear. In contrast to other grinding processes, only few information regarding double face grinding with planetary kinematics when processing steel is known up to date. Since the successive substitution of in-dustrial double-sided lapping processes by double-sided grinding, it has become necessary to the...

Relation between steel microstructure and its properties in inert and aggressive environments
PublicationBadano stale 26H2MF i 34HNM poddane różnej obróbce cieplnej. Mikrostruktury stali zmieniały sie od martenzytu i bainitu do odpuszczonego martenzytu i sorbitu. Obserwowano spadek energii zniszczenia, wydłużenia i przewżenia w próbie rozciągania z małą prędkością i równoczesnej polaryzacji katodowej do 100 mA/cm2. Degradacji towarzyszyła zmiana przełomu z ciągliwego na kruchy łupliwy i quasiłupliwy.

Hydrogen induced degradation of structural steel exposed to the technical liquid hydrocarbons
PublicationSusceptibility of the differently heat treated 26H2MF steel to stress corrosion cracking has been evaluated in the constant strain rate tension tests done at the strain rate 10-6s-1 and in the constant load tests done at the 0,98 of fracture load. The boiler fuel and the aged mineral oil at 135C and 80C respectively, have been used as the aggressive environments.

Effect of annealing temperature on slurry erosion resistance of ferritic X10CrAlSi18 steel
PublicationIn the present work, the slurry erosion tests were carried out to investigate the influence of heat treatment on slurry erosion process of ferritic X10CrAlSi18 stainless steel using a slurry pot test rig. X10CrAlSi18 stainless steel was tested in as-received condition and after annealing at three different temperatures: 600°C, 800°C and 1000°C. Degradation of materials due to slurry erosion depends on many factors connected with...

Weldability of S460ML High Strength Low Alloy Steel in Underwater Conditions
PublicationThe paper presents experimental evaluation of susceptibility of the high strength S460ML steel to cold cracking in the conditions of wet welding with the use of covered electrodes. From the results of Tekken tests it was found out that the investigated steel was characterised, in the conditions of the carried out experiments (underwater wet welding and air welding with rutile electrodes), of high susceptibility to cold cracking....

Reduction of vibrations of steel structure models with Polymeric Bearings - experimental study
PublicationEarthquake-induced ground motions are the most severe and unpredictable threats to the structures all around the world. Therefore, designing earthquake protective systems has become an extremely challenging problem in civil engineering. Base isolation is one of the most popular and widely adopted methods of protecting structures against earthquake forces. The present paper reports the results obtained from the shaking table experimental...

Problems of collisions between adjacent steel structures under earthquake excitation
PublicationNowadays, the high level of urbanization forces the designers to design closely-separated structures and to take into account many factors influencing the response of these structures, which may collide due to insufficient separation distance during moderate to strong ground motions. Recent observations as well as numerical and experimental investigations have confirmed that the interactions between structures may lead to significant...

Ceria Based Protective Coatings for Steel Interconnects Prepared by Spray Pyrolysis
PublicationStainless steels can be used in solid oxide fuel/electrolysis stacks as interconnects. For successful long term operation they require protective coatings, that lower the corrosion rate and block chemical reactions between the interconnect and adjacent layers of the oxygen or the hydrogen electrode. One of the promising coating materials for the hydrogen side is ceria. Using standard sintering techniques, ceria sinters at around...
