Can we really solve an arch stability problem?
PublikacjaWe bring attention to the problem of solving nonlinear boundary-value problems for elastic structures such as arches and shells. Here we discuss a classical problem of a shear-deformable arch postbuckling. Considering a postbuckling behaviour of a circular arch we discuss the possibility to find numerically a solution for highly nonlinear regimes. The main attention is paid to the problem of determination of all solutions. The...

Zaawansowane studium stref zakotwienia systemu podwieszenia Mostu Uniwersyteckiego w Bydgoszczy, cz.I

Examination of selected failure criteria with asymmetric shear stresses in the collapse analysis of laminated shells
PublikacjaThe paper is concerned with failure analysis of composite shells performed with the usage of the nonlinear 6‐parameter shell theory with drilling rotation degree of freedom. This special theory embodies naturally unlim-ited translations and rotations and is suitable for analysis of irregular shells for instance with various, partic-ularly orthogonal, intersections. The presence of the drilling rotation is inherently accompanied...

On analysis of double-impact test of 1500-kg vehicle into w-beam guardrail system
PublikacjaEvery day on roads many scenarios of accidents may occur. One of the measures to minimize their consequences is road safety barriers. Finite Element analyses are being increasingly used to support the physical testing of these devices. The paper addresses the issue of a secondary impact into the previously damaged w-beam guardrail system. This situation belongs to one of the most dangerous which can happen on roads and may cause...

Dynamic Tests and Technical Monitoring of a Novel Sandwich Footbridge
PublikacjaA novel sandwich composite footbridge is described in this paper, for the first time after it has been put into operation over the Radunia River in the Pruszcz Gdański municipality. This paper presents results of dynamic tests and describes technical monitoring of the footbridge. The dynamic tests were conducted to estimate pedestrian comfort and were compared with the ones from numerical simulations made in the environment of...

On rotational instability within the nonlinear six-parameter shell theory
PublikacjaWithin the six-parameter nonlinear shell theory we analyzed the in-plane rotational instability which oc- curs under in-plane tensile loading. For plane deformations the considered shell model coincides up to notations with the geometrically nonlinear Cosserat continuum under plane stress conditions. So we con- sidered here both large translations and rotations. The constitutive relations contain some additional mi- cropolar parameters...

Prediction of cast-in-place concrete strength of the extradosed bridge deck based on temperature monitoring and numerical simulations
PublikacjaThe work is devoted to the implementation of a monitoring system for high performance concrete embedded in the span of an extradosed bridge deck using a modified maturity method augmented by numerical simulations conducted by the authors’ FEM code. The paper presents all research stages of bridge construction and considers the conclusions drawn from the results of laboratory tests, field measurements, and numerical calculations....

2-D constitutive equations for orthotropic Cosserat type laminated shells in finite element analysis
PublikacjaWe propose 2-D Cosserat type orthotropic constitutive equations for laminated shells for the purpose of initial failure estimation in a laminate layer. We use nonlinear 6-parameter shell theory with asymmetric membrane strain measures and Cosserat kinematics as the framework. This theory is specially dedicated to the analysis of irregular shells, inter alia, with orthogonal intersections, since it takes into account the drilling...

Badania systemów powstrzymujących pojazd przed wypadnięciem z drogi - cz. I
PublikacjaTransportation systems are designed and used so as to effectively and safely relocate people, goods and services. Despite this there are numerous hazards that disrupt or damage these systems. Risks such as extreme weather conditions, terrorist threats, landsliders or earthquakes are difficult to predict, manage and mitigate. One of the hazards for transportation systems are accidents, and their impact on the transport functioning...

Badania systemów powstrzymujących pojazd przed wypadnięciem z drogi - cz. II
PublikacjaW artykule zaprezentowana została tematyka systemów powstrzymujących pojazd przed wypadnięciem z drogi. Podczas codziennego użytkowania dróg występuje szereg zagrożeń, które wpływają na bezpieczeństwo. Badanie, identyfikacja i klasyfikacja zagrożeń stanowią istotny element utrzymania dróg. Artykuł stanowi drugą część podjętej problematyki. Pierwsza została opublikowana w magazynie Mosty nr 3-4/19 str. 66-68.

Dynamic tests of composite footbridge segment – experimental and numerical studies
PublikacjaExperimental dynamic tests and numerical simulations of a 3 meters long segment of a footbridge made of polymer composites are presented in the paper. The span-length is reduced, however dimensions of cross-section are the same as the target footbridge. The segment structure is made of sandwich panels, which consist of fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminates (skins) and a PET foam (core). The first part of the paper contains...

Estimation of wind pressure acting on the new palm house in Gdansk
PublikacjaThis paper deals with the problem of numerical simulations of wind loads acting on a Palm House with complex geometry. Flow simulations with aid of computational fluid dynamics procedures have been performed to check if the pressure distributions for the structure are greater than those calculated using the standard design codes with assumption that the Palm House horizontal cross sections are described by smooth cylinders.

Experimental and numerical analysis of the modified TB32 crash tests of the cable barrier system
PublikacjaRoad restraint systems, including safety barriers, are one of the means used to improve road safety. Currently, they can be allowed to general use after passing the specific crash tests. However, it is always important and desirable to evaluate their performance under various realistic conditions, which can happen on the roads. In this study, the behaviour of the cable barrier system in impact conditions different than assumed...

Improvement of the load capacity of the road overpass as a result of repairs after breakage caused by vehicle impacts
PublikacjaDamage of spans of the overpass caused by impact of underpassing vehicles are a frequent case. Objects that use prefabricated load-bearing elements that are not designed for such impacts are particularly exposed. After impact, such parts suffer extensive damage that need repair. Taking advantages of this recovery actions it is worth to perform strengthening that will protect object against possible future impacts. In this study...
