Microseismic Monitoring of Hydraulic Fracturing - Data Interpretation Methodology With an Example from Pomerania
PublikacjaMicroseismic monitoring is a method for localizing fractures induced by hydraulic fracturing in search for shell gas. The data is collected from an array of geophones deployed on the surface or underground. Ground vibrations are recorded and analysed for fracture location, magnitude and breakage mechanism. For successful microseismic monitoring one need a velocity model of underlying formations. The model is further tuned with...

Experimental study on steel columns subjected to impact load under earthquake conditions
PublikacjaEarthquakes affecting urbanized regions cause exceptional loads to load bearing structural elements such as columns. Such a boost in the load conditions can lead to severe damages which, in a worst case scenario, can lead to a total collapse of a building. This boost is caused by the horizontal ground movement generating a rise in the internal forces due to considerable large displacement between the top and bottom support of columns....

Modified linear viscoelastic model of earthquake-induced structural pounding
PublikacjaIn recent times, earthquake-induced structural pounding has been intensively studied through the use of different impact force models. The numerical results obtained from the previous studies indicate that the linear viscoelastic model is relatively simple and accurate in modeling pounding-involved behavior of structures during earthquakes. The only shortcoming of the model is a negative value of the pounding force occurring just...

Experimental and numerical study on deformed steel columns subjected to impact load during earthquakes
PublikacjaThe soft-storey failure is one of the most typical types of damage observed in buildings during earthquakes. The failure of an upper soft storey of a structure results in large impact load acting on the lower floors and if the resistance of the structural members of the lower storeys is not sufficient it may further lead to progressive collapse of the whole building. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the dynamic behaviour...

Monotone iterative method to second order differential equations with deviating arguments involving Stieltjes integral boundary conditions
PublikacjaWe use a monotone iterative method for second order differential equations with deviating arguments and boundary conditions involving Stieltjes integrals. We establish sufficient conditions which guarantee that such problems have extremal solutions in the corresponding region bounded by lower and upper solutions. We also discuss the situation when problems have coupled quasi-solutions. We illustrate our results by three examples.
