Influence of ESPAR Antenna Radiation Patterns Shape on PPCC-Based DoA Estimation Accuracy
PublikacjaIn the article, we show the influence of three different electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna radiation patterns on the overall direction of arrival (DoA) estimation accuracy when power-pattern cross-correlation (PPCC) algorithm, relying on received signal strength (RSS) values, is used for the estimation. The ESPAR antenna designs were obtained for three optimization...

Communication Networks in the Service of the Environmental Monitoring
PublikacjaIn the paper selected issues relating to communication networks in the services of the environmental monitoring (EM) have been described. It is divided into three main parts: introduction, wire and wireless networks. At the beginning of the basic definitions were explained. The wire part focuses on a plain old telephone service (POTS), an integrated services digital network (ISDN), a digital subscriber line (DSL) and a fiber-optic...

UHF ESPAR antenna for simple Angle of Arrival estimation in UHF RFID applications
PublikacjaAn electronically switched beam antenna for localization of passive UHF RFID tags based on a simple Angle of Arrival (AoA) technique is proposed‥ Detailed antenna design and realization are presented together with corresponding simulations and measurement results. Experimental tests with passive UHF RFID tag show the validity of theoretical assumptions for application of the antenna in UHF RFID based localization systems.

RSS-Based DoA Estimation Using ESPAR Antenna Radiation Patterns Spline Interpolation
PublikacjaIn this paper, it is shown how power pattern crosscorrelation (PPCC) algorithm, which relies on received signal strength (RSS) values recorded at electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna output port, used for direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation, can easily be improved by applying spline interpolation to radiation patterns recorded in the calibration phase of the DoA estimation process. The proposed method...

Remote Monitoring System for Impedance Spectroscopy using Wireless Sensor Network
PublikacjaThe architecture of a miniaturized impedanceanalyser with wireless communication module for remoteImpedance Spectroscopy (IS) of anticorrosion coatings ondifficult-to-reach objects (e.g. on the steel construction ofthe bridge) is described in this paper. Some practical aspectsof implementation of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) arealso discussed. A low scale, middle range, WSN networkcomposed of a Base Station (BS) with a Personal...

Routing Method for Interplanetary Satellite Communication in IoT Networks Based on IPv6
PublikacjaThe matter of interplanetary network (IPN) connection is a complex and sophisticated topic. Space missions are aimed inter alia at studying the outer planets of our solar system. Data transmission itself, as well as receiving data from satellites located on the borders of the solar system, was only possible thanks to the use of powerful deep space network (DSN) receivers, located in various places on the surface of the Earth. In...

User Orientation Detection in Relation to Antenna Geometry in Ultra-Wideband Wireless Body Area Networks Using Deep Learning
PublikacjaIn this paper, the issue of detecting a user’s position in relation to the antenna geometry in ultra-wideband (UWB) off-body wireless body area network (WBAN) communication using deep learning methods is presented. To measure the impulse response of the channel, a measurement stand consisting of EVB1000 devices and DW1000 radio modules was developed and indoor static measurement scenarios were performed. It was proven that for...

Improved RSS-Based DoA Estimation Accuracy in Low-Profile ESPAR Antenna Using SVM Approach
PublikacjaIn this paper, we have shown how the overall performance of direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation using lowprofile electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna, which has been proposed for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, can significantly be improved when support vector machine (SVM) approach is applied. Because the SVM-based DoA estimation method used herein relies solely on received signal strength...

Collision‐Aware Routing Using Multi‐Objective Seagull Optimization Algorithm for WSN‐Based IoT
PublikacjaIn recent trends, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become popular because of their cost, simple structure, reliability, and developments in the communication field. The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the interconnection of everyday objects and sharing of information through the Internet. Congestion in networks leads to transmission delays and packet loss and causes wastage of time and energy on recovery. The routing protocols...

The Latest Advances in Wireless Communication in Aviation, Wind Turbines and Bridges
PublikacjaPresent-day technologies used in SHM (Structural Health Monitoring) systems in many implementations are based on wireless sensor networks (WSN). In the context of the continuous development of these systems, the costs of the elements that form the monitoring system are decreasing. In this situation, the challenge is to select the optimal number of sensors and the network architecture, depending on the wireless system’s other parameters...

Exploiting multi-interface networks: Connectivity and Cheapest Paths
PublikacjaLet G = (V,E) be a graph which models a set of wireless devices (nodes V) that can communicate by means of multiple radio interfaces, according to proximity and common interfaces (edges E). The problem of switching on (activating) the minimum cost set of interfaces at the nodes in order to guarantee the coverage of G was recently studied. A connection is covered (activated) when the endpoints of the corresponding edge share at...

Miniaturization of ESPAR Antenna Using Low-Cost 3D Printing Process
PublikacjaIn this paper, the miniaturized electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna is presented. The size reduction was obtained by embedding its active and passive elements in polylactic acid (PLA) plastic material commonly used in low-cost 3D printing. The influence of 3D printing process imperfections on the ESPAR antenna design is investigated and a simple yet effective method to compensate them has been proposed....

Reliable routing and resource allocation scheme for hybrid RF/FSO networks
PublikacjaSignificant success of wireless networks in the last decade has changed the paradigms of communication networks design. In particular, the growing interest in wireless mesh networks (WMNs) is observed. WMNs offer an attractive alternative to conventional cable infrastructures, especially in urban areas, where the cost of new installations is almost prohibitive. Unfortunately, the performance of WMNs is often limited by the cluttered...

Routing decisions independent of queuing delays in broadband leo networks
PublikacjaThis paper presents an analysis of queuing and propagation delays of Inter-Satellite Links (ISLs) in broadband Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks. It is shown that queuing delays are negligible in all reasonable working conditions of the broadband ISL network. This fact makes it possible to simplify the routing protocols in such networks and permits using already known multi-commodity flow solutions for routing. The performance...

A Survey of Fast-Recovery Mechanisms in Packet-Switched Networks
PublikacjaIn order to meet their stringent dependability requirements, most modern packet-switched communication networks support fast-recovery mechanisms in the data plane. While reactions to failures in the data plane can be significantly faster compared to control plane mechanisms, implementing fast recovery in the data plane is challenging, and has recently received much attention in the literature. This survey presents a systematic,...
