On the Possibility of the Amphotericin B-Sterol Complex Formation in Cholesterol- and Ergosterol-Containing Lipid Bilayers: A Molecular Dynamics Study
PublikacjaAmphotericin B (AmB) is a well-known membrane-active antibiotic that has been used to treat systemicfungal infections for more than 45 years. Therapeutic application of AmB is based on the fact that it is moreactive against ergosterol-containing membranes of fungal cells than against mammalian membranes withcholesterol. In this paper, we examine the hypothesis according to which the selectivity of the AmB's membraneaction originates...

Changes on the Surface of the SiO2/C Composite, Leading to the Formation of Conductive Carbon Structures with Complex Nature of DC Conductivity
PublikacjaSol–gel layers have been the subject of many studies in recent decades. However, very little information exists about layers in which carbon structures are developed in situ. Using the spin-coating method, we obtained thin iron-doped SiO2/C composite films. The results of Raman spectroscopy showed that our samples consisted of graphitic forms and polymers. The latter’s contribution decreases with rising temperature. FTIR and EDS...

Solar radiation (PAR, UV-B and UV-A) reaching the sea surface - Gdańsk Deep (2001-2005)
Dane BadawczeSolar radiation reaching the sea surface was measured in spring (2001, 2003, 2005) and autumn (2002, 2004). For measurements of the photosynthetic active radiation - PAR (400-700 nm), the Ejkelkamp SKP 210 / I 0896 13595 sensor was used, the UV-B radiation (280-315 nm) was measured with the Ejkelkamp SKU 430 0497 14854 sensor, while UV-A (315- 380 nm)...

The influence of synthesis method on the microstructure and catalytic performance of Y 0.07 Sr 0.93 Ti 0.8 Fe 0.2 O 3-δ in synthetic biogas operated solid oxide fuel cells
PublikacjaThe Y0.07Sr0.93Ti0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (YSTF) material was fabricated using three different synthesis methods: modified polymer precursor method (MPP), Pechini method and a solid state reaction method. It was applied as an anode catalytic material for biogas reforming in solid oxide fuel cells. Clear differences in the microstructure of fabricated catalytic layers were found, mainly with respect to a grain size and distribution of grains....

Copper and cobalt co-doped ceria as an anode catalyst for DIR-SOFCs fueled by biogas
PublikacjaThe nanocrystalline compounds of Co and Cu co-doped ceria (with up to 20 mol.% of dopants) were fabricated by the reverse microemulsion synthesis method. They were deposited in a form of layers on the surface of SOFC anode in an aim to act as electrochemically active materials for biogas reforming process. Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy was used to analyze a composition of outlet gases simultaneously with the tests of...

Hydrogen permeation through welded joints of S690QL steels at cathodic polarisation in sea water in the presence of SRB
PublikacjaPrezentowane są wyniki badan metodą Devanathana- Stachurskyego przenikania wodoru w wodzie morskiej w obecności bakterii redukujących siarczany i w warunkach sterylnych. Badania wykonano na stali S690QL poddanej symulowanym obróbkom cieplnym prowadzącym do struktur modelujących strefy wpływu ciepła. Stwierdzono dodatni wpływ obecności bakterii na przenikanie wodoru. Różnice między poszczególnymi próbkami były minimalne.

Challenges for universities in the face of the knowledge-based economy - Directions for higher education institutions in the Baltic Sea Region
PublikacjaThe aim of this paper is to present new challenges that are faced by universities in the knowledge-based economy. There are several phenomena that can presently be observed like the need for life-long learning or interdisciplinary approach, and universities should prepare their graduates for those challenges. One of the crucial questions that universities need to ask is how to teach and what to teach. Knowledge becomes obsolete...
