The influence of pre- and postharvest treatments on selected biological and epigenetic activities of Brassica sprouts
PublikacjaIntroduction The Brassica vegetables are rich in glucosinolates (GLs), which are enzymatically hydrolysed to bioactive isothiocynates (ITC) and indoles, regarded as the most promising chemopreventing agents. However, in the majority of brassica sprouts the GL conversion into these beneficial derivatives occurs at the level of about 1 %, while in cabbage leaves exceeds 70%. Since sprouts represent plant material, which is frequently...

The hybrid estimation algorithm for wastewater treatment plant robust model predictive control purposes at medium time scale
PublikacjaThe paper proposes an approach to designing the hybrid estimation algorithm/module (HEA) with moving measurements window for Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Robust Model Predictive Control (RMPC) purposes at medium time scale. The RMPC uses a dedicated grey-box model of biological reactor for the system outputs prediction purposes. The grey-box model parameters are dependant on the plant operating point. Hence, these parameters...

Modifications to the anaerobic digestion model no. 1 (ADM1) for enhanced understanding and application of the anaerobic treatment processes – A comprehensive review
PublikacjaAnaerobic digestion (AD) is a promising method for the recovery of resources and energy from organic wastes. Correspondingly, AD modelling has also been developed in recent years. The International Water Association (IWA) Anaerobic Digestion Model No. 1 (ADM1) is currently the most commonly used structured AD model. However, as substrates become more complex and our understanding of the AD mechanism grows, both systematic and specific...

Circulating miRNA profiles and the risk of hemorrhagic transformation after thrombolytic treatment of acute ischemic stroke: a pilot study
PublikacjaBackground: Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) in acute ischemic stroke is likely to occur in patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and may lead to neurological deterioration and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH). Despite the complex inclusion and exclusion criteria for IVT and some useful tools to stratify HT risk, sICH still occurs in approximately 6% of patients because some of the risk factors for this...
