Pharmacomicrobiomics of cell-cycle specific anti-cancer drugs – is it a new perspective for personalized treatment of cancer patients?
PublikacjaIntestinal bacteria are equipped with an enzyme apparatus that is involved in the active biotrans-formation of xenobiotics, including drugs. Pharmacomicrobiomics, a new area of pharmacology, analyses interactions between bacteria and xenobiotics. However, there is another side to the coin. Pharmacotherapeutic agents can significantly modify the microbiota, which consequently affects their efficacy. In this review, we comprehensively...

Gold nanoparticles for cancer radiotherapy: a review
PublikacjaRadiotherapy is currently used in around 50% of cancer treatments and relies on the deposition of energy directly into tumour tissue. Although it is generally effective, some of the deposited energy can adversely affect healthy tissue outside the tumour volume, especially in the case of photon radiation (gamma and X-rays). Improved radiotherapy outcomes can be achieved by employing ion beams due to the characteristic energy deposition...

Prospects in elongation of railway transition curves
PublikacjaThe paper presents an analysis of the elongation of transition curves in relation to railway track alignment correction and modernisation. The analysis is based on numerical computations for a wide range of parameters describing a typical railway geometrical layout with transition curves. The differences between the horizontal ordinates of the existing layout and the layout with the elongated transition curves are evaluated and...

On the plastic buckling of curved carbon nanotubes
PublikacjaThis research, for the first time, predicts theoretically static stability response of a curved carbon nanotube (CCNT) under an elastoplastic behavior with several boundary conditions. The CCNT is exposed to axial compressive loads. The equilibrium equations are extracted regarding the Euler–Bernoulli displacement field by means of the principle of minimizing total potential energy. The elastoplastic stress-strain is concerned...

Analytical design method of reverse curves
PublikacjaThe paper deals with a new approach relating to the design of the region of railway track direction alteration adapted to Mobile Satellite Measurements technique. The method may be particularly useful in situations when both the straights of the route directions cannot be connected in an elementary way using a circular arc with transition curves; this also refers to the application of a compound curve. Thus the only solution becomes...

Optoelectronic properties of curved carbon systems
PublikacjaSystematic investigation of optoelectronic properties of curved carbon systems has been performed and the results have been compared with the representatives of flat carbon systems. Moreover, the application of third order dispersion corrected density functional tight binding method (with third order corrections of self-consistent charges) including Becke-Johnson dumping (DFTB3-D3(BJ)) has been validated in order to obtain reliable...

Singular curves in the resultant thermomechanics of shells
PublikacjaSome geometric and kinematic relations associated with the curve moving on the shell base surface are discussed. The extended surface transport relation and the extended surface divergence theorems are proposed for the piecewise smooth tensor fields acting on the regular and piecewise regular surfaces. The recently formulated resultant, two-dimensionally exact, thermodynamic shell relations - the balances of mass, linear and angular...

Nanomaterials for photothermal and photodynamic cancer therapy
PublikacjaIn recent years, the role of optically sensitive nanomaterials has become powerful moieties in therapeutic techniques and has become particularly emphasized. Currently, by the extraordinary development of nanomaterials in different fields of medicine, they have found new applications. Phototherapy modalities, such as photothermal therapy (PTT) by toxic heat generation and photodynamic therapy (PDT) by reactive oxygen species, are...

Kinetics of carrier recombination in amorphous solids

A breath of fresh air - social cognitive career theory in studying entrepreneurial intentions
PublikacjaA pinch of robustness and a pinch of freshness create an interesting story. That is why this study focuses on entrepreneurial intentions from an alternative theoretical perspective in an underexplored context. In this paper, it is argued that social cognitive career theory is relevant to the study of individual entrepreneurial cognition and behaviour, and it offers a solid framework in entrepreneurship research. This paper expands...

Bifractal receiver operating characteristic curves: a formula for generating receiver operating characteristic curves in credit-scoring contexts
PublikacjaThis paper formulates a mathematical model for generating receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves without underlying data. Credit scoring practitioners know that the Gini coefficient usually drops if it is only calculated on cases above the cutoff. This fact is not a mathematical necessity, however, as it is theoretically possible to get an ROC curve that keeps the same Gini coefficient no matter how big a share of lowest...

Operation, Administration, Maintenance in Carrier Grade Ethernet
PublikacjaOAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) plays a crucial role in carrier networks. OAM functionality ensures that network operators and service providers can maintain the quality of the services they offer. One of its major tasks is the detection of anomalies in the network before they become a problem. This enables network operators and service providers to deliver services that come up to a predetermined level of quality...
