The Belt and Road Initiative and export variety: 1996–2019
PublicationThis study examines the association between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and export variety (EV). We apply the instrumental variable (IV) approach in regressions for covering the...

We firstly distinguish between provincial value chains (PVCs) and interprovincial value chains (PRVCs) in order to outline their distribution and evolution over time. Then, we investigate to what extent participation in GVCs, PVCs and PRVCs –...

Do new EU members have any chance of earning as much as Westerns do?
PublicationThis article examines the wage dispersion in the European Union in the last ten years (1996-2006). The impact of internal and international migration on regional convergence in Poland
PublicationAccording to neoclassical theory, migration is expected to speed up the convergence process between countries (Barro, Sala-i-Martin 2004). The flow of labour from low-wage regions to high-wage regions should equalise payrolls. However, the impact of migration on convergence rates is unclear when the labour flow is heterogeneous. Moreover, the movement of labour towards wealthier areas depresses the demand for goods, services and...

The power of silence? opinion contagion and the surprise of the polish 2005 parlamentary and presidential elections
PublicationThis paper investigates opinion contagion in collective behaviour using threshold model (Granovetter (1978), Krassa(1988)). The theoretical background is the spiral of silence concept developed by Noelle-Neumann (1974), arguing that people only assert their opinions if they perceive a minimal support from a relevant proportion of others. We apply the model to explain the dispersion between pre-elections preferences and the final...

Does migration lead to economic convergence in an enlarged European market?
PublicationThis paper examines the relationship between migration and convergence for the enlarged internal market of the European Union (EU27) for the period 1990-2007. The impact of migration on growth is estimated in two ways: by including the migration rate in a growth regression and examining its impact on the convergence coefficient; and from the actual coefficient on migration, which can be interpreted as the effect of migration on...

Price Diversification
PublicationThe price diversification is a complex phenomenon. We show that price discrimination can have both positive and negative effects. The final result depends whether it makes competition more intense. As far as legal procedure is cocerned it is recommended to focus on the effects of compan's actions rather than on the form that these actions may take. There is a need to understand and distinguish between price discrimination as the...

The European Union is aware of this problem hence the role of the regional and structural policy aiming enhancing the cohesion between member...

We do realize that the relation we have found does not have to indicate cause and effects relationship. Competitiveness is a process which goes far beyond price level but it is detemined by lots of different elemnts. We show the GCI composition that provides a concept explaining what exactly determines competitiveness...
