Accuracy analysis of the RSSI BLE SensorTag signal for indoor localization purposes
PublicationIn this paper we describe possibility of use the RSSI signal (Radio Signal Strength Indication) from Texas Instruments SensorTag CC2650 for indoor positioning purposes. This idea is not a new but in our opinion it is possible to use SensorTags with Bluetooth LE wireless interface for positioning inside buildings in such applications as people findings in hospitals, senior come care, etc. RSSI is mostly selected as the sensor localization...

Natural ventilation performance of family building in cold climate during windy days
PublicationAdequately designed natural ventilation is the cheapest and easiest way to effectively remove indoor pollutants and keep the fresh air inside a building. A prediction of performance and effectiveness of ventilation in order to determine the design of a ventilation system can provide real and long term cost savings. The paper presents results of performance (air change rate ACH) and effectiveness (CO2 concentration in the breathing...

Influence of a Radio Frequency on RF Fingerprinting Accuracy Based on Ray Tracing Simulation
PublicationIn this paper the influence of a radio signal frequency on performance of Indoor Positioning System based on fingerprinting has been examined using ray-tracing simulations. It has been simulated how spatial distribution of an RF signal strength change with the signal’s frequency. The results were used to show its’ impact on the behavior of localization algorithms that are employing RSS measurements to determine node’s position...

Fast Calibration-Free Single-Anchor Indoor Localization Based on Limited Number of ESPAR Antenna Radiation Patterns
Publication— In this article, we investigate how the calibrationfree single-anchor indoor localization algorithm developed for base stations equipped with electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antennas can further be improved. By reducing the total number of ESPAR antenna radiation patterns used in localization process, one can significantly reduce the time needed for an object localization. Performed localization measurements...

Analogue GPS repeater
PublicationThis article concerns the problem of difficulty in correct indoor Global Positioning System (GPS) signals reception due to attenuation. Radio signal repeaters are proposed as means to solve this problem. Firstly, the GPS signal characteristics are described, emphasizing their low power in the point of reception. In the second part, various applications of GPS signal repeater, where indoor GPS signals reception is required, are...

Single-Anchor Indoor Localization Using ESPAR Antenna
PublicationIn this paper a new single-anchor indoor localization concept employing Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator (ESPAR) antenna has been proposed. The new concept uses a simple fingerprinting algorithm adopted to work with directional main beam and narrow minimum radiation patterns of ESPAR antenna that scans 360° area around the base station, while the signal strength received from a mobile terminal is being recorded...

Chapter 8 – Active Sampling of Air
PublicationThis chapter reviews the literature information on analytical techniques and laboratory equipment used for active sampling of air (atmospheric and indoor) in regular monitoring research. It describes popular analytical devices applied for sample collection using various types of polymeric bags, e.g. Tedlar bags, Teflon or Nafion bags, and/or stainless steel vacuum containers. It reviews literature data about the application of...

Tracking body movement for radio channel measurements in BAN with indoor positioning system
PublicationThis paper presents indoor positioning system based on inertial navigation with additional distance measurements using UWB modems and map matching to increase accuracy and eliminate position drift. Such system may be used to track position of human body during radio channel measurements for body area networks. Performance of proposed system and limitations caused by inertial navigation are briefly described.

Enhanced switched parasitic antenna with switched active monopoles for indoor positioning systems
PublicationThis paper presents the concept of enhanced reduced-size steerable antenna array with two rows of switched active and passive elements. Designed array is similar to ESPAR antenna but it has a set of switched monopoles instead of central one. It is intended for 2.4 GHz ISM applications with emphasis on indoor positioning systems (IPS). Proposed antenna provides improved radiation parameters and reduced dimensions in comparison to...

Monoterpenes emissions from different samples of wood-based materials – laminated chipboards and medium-density fiberboards (MDF)
PublicationThe paper presents the results of studies on emission rates of monoterpenes, carried out with the use of a new type of device - Markes’ Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor™ (μ-CTE250). Subject of studies were different types of wood-based materials such as: laminated chipboards and medium-density fiberboards (MDF). Based on the results obtained one can conclude that the laminated chipboards may affect the indoor air quality in much...

Employment of passive sampling in monitoring indoor air quality in selected residences in a Tri-city area in Poland
PublicationTime-weighted average concentrations of selected volatile compounds were measured in chosen residences in a Tri-City area of Poland by means of passive sampling. The results were compared to those obtained by dynamic technique – sorption tubes filled with Tenax TA sorbent. Results obtained by employing the two techniques were similar. Total volatile organic compound (TVOC) parameters were also determined. An attempt was also...
