Optimization of Stabilizing Systems in Protection of Cultural Heritage: The Case of the Historical Retaining Wall in the Wisłoujście Fortress
PublicationThe aim of the paper is to propose new quantitative criteria for selecting the optimal method of securing and repairing a historical object, which take into account Structural, Conservation and Architectural aspects (the S–C–A method). Construction works on cultural heritage sites tend to be challenging and require an interdisciplinary approach. Therefore, they are strictly related to the philosophy of sustainable development which...

Tribology of bone tissue culture in bioreactor.

Authenticity of cultural heritage vis-à-vis heritage reproducibility and intangibility: from conservation philosophy to practice
PublicationThis article states that the philosophical nature/ambiguity/controversy of the issue of authenticity undermines its usefulness as a tool in conservation practice. The main drawback is the inability to objectively define the notion of authenticity. In conservation philosophy, the meaning of authenticity relativizes along with the widespread consent to the reproducibility of cultural heritage, whereas the recognition of its intangibility...

Persistences: analysis of the image of Gdańsk and its cultural identity through survey processes and digital architectural representation
PublicationThe aim of the research was to analyse the historical legacy/heritage of the city of Gdańsk in order to characterise the narrative tools which can be used to promote the cultural identity of the urban landscape. The main focus was on the city's defence system - a cultural route that is spatially limited to a relatively small area, but temporally spanning almost a millennium. The fortifications demarcate a spatial boundary, limiting...

Localization in wireless sensor networks based on zigbee platform

Vibration based damage localization in non-homogeneous structures

Single-Anchor Indoor Localization Using ESPAR Antenna
PublicationIn this paper a new single-anchor indoor localization concept employing Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator (ESPAR) antenna has been proposed. The new concept uses a simple fingerprinting algorithm adopted to work with directional main beam and narrow minimum radiation patterns of ESPAR antenna that scans 360° area around the base station, while the signal strength received from a mobile terminal is being recorded...

Localization of sound sources with dual acoustic vector sensor
PublicationThe aim of the work is to estimate the position of sound sources. The proposed method uses a setup of two acoustic vector sensors (AVS). The intersection of azimuth rays from each AVS should indicate the position of a source. In practice, the result of position estimation using this method is an area rather than a point. This is a result of inaccuracy of the individual sensors, but more importantly, of the influence of a source...

New approach to localization of clicks in archive speech signals.
PublicationPrzedstawiono problem lokalizacji zniekształceń impulsowych w archiwalnych sygnałach mowy. Pokazano, że detekcja oparta na dwuzakresowym modelu autoregresyjnym i przetwarzanie dwukierunkowe pozwala uzyskać znaczącą poprawę działania w stosunku do istniejących metod lokalizacji zniekształceń.

Protection of historical heritage as part of the development of cultural tourism – a case study of the community of Kamieniec Ząbkowicki in Lower Silesia
PublicationBoth literature and economics show a changing approach to historical heritage. It is no longer seen as a resource that generates only high maintenance costs. Analyses of local government units (LGUs) show that historical heritage is a strength rather than a weakness. More and more often, it is considered in economic development strategies as an asset that creates new activities and functions, generates income, and creates jobs....
