Preliminary study on toxicity of aquatic ecosystems in Bug river basin
PublicationW pracy zaprezentowano badania toksyczności wody, osadów i ścieków wykonane w dorzeczu rzeki Bug w 2001 r. Stosując standardowe mikrobiotesty, określono toksyczność wobec roślin, bakterii i skorupiaków. Wody powierzchniowe w dorzeczu rzeki Bug zakwalifikowano jako nietoksyczne, z wyjątkiem górnego dorzecza i punktu w Terespolu. Większość próbek ścieków wykazywała toksyczność wobec organizmów wskaźnikowych, przy czym różnice w odpowiedzi...

Shaking table experimental study on structural pounding during earthquakes

Long-Distance FRET Analysis: A Monte Carlo Simulation Study

An untraceability protocol for mobile agents and its enhanced security study

Rebuilding Bailey Bridge to Bridge With Bascule Span – A Case Study
PublicationThe structural analysis of a road foldable prefabricated steel Bailey- type bridge located over the Tuga River in Żelichowo, Poland is performed in this paper. Interesting and untypical bridge redevelopment performed made it possible to lift the middle foldable bridge span by approximately 4.0 m concerning the existing state. The paper begins with a survey of literature carried out on the investigations of foldable Bailey-type...

The comparative study of different methods of spectral analysis of electrochemical oscillations
PublicationOscylacje elektrochemiczne często połączone są z roztwarzaniem metali. One często wykazują niestacjonarny charakter. W związku z czym wydaje się konieczne wykonanie analizy w równoczesnej dziedzinie czasu i częstotliwości. Zaprezentowano porównanie trzech nowych metod: STFT, transformacji falkowej i rozkładu Wigner-Ville´a. Zalety tych metod zostały wypunktowane oraz wykazane zostały różnice pomiędzy analizą Fourierowską i technikami...

A Biofeedback System that Uses the Game to Study Electrical Muscle Activity
PublicationThe aim of this project was to design a system that will allow performing repetitive muscle exercises using a biofeedback device. It is supposed to enhance the motivation and attractiveness of the performed tasks thanks to an interactive game developed for mobile devices with the Android operating system. The built-in calibration mechanisms enable the users to play a game that is independent of their abilities which evens out the...

Experimental study and numerical simulation of the dynamic penetration into dry clay
PublicationTests of dry clay were carried out in a uniaxial stress state using the experimental setup which implements the split Hopkinson pressure bar method. Based on the results of these experiments, the compressive strength of clay was determined as an important element of S.S. Grigoryan’s model of the soil medium. In addition, the parameters of this model are determined from the results of experiments using the modified Kolsky method...

Group 11 complexes with a phosphanylphosphaalkene ligand: preparation and stability study
PublicationThe reactivities of two selected phosphanylphosphaalkenes, Ph2C=P-PtBu2 (1a) and (p-MeO-Ph)2C=P-PtBu2 (1b), toward CuCl, AgCl and (tht)AuCl (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) were investigated. As a result, new phosphanylphosphaalkene dimeric and monomeric complexes were formed (Cu and Ag dimeric and Au monomeric). All obtained products were air and moisture stable and light insensitive.

The retrofitting of ships by applying retractable bow hydrofoils: a case study
PublicationIncreasing environmental requirements and a relatively long ship life of 30 years mean more attention is needed to retrofit existing ships. One possibility is using hydrofoils to reduce the ship’s resistance and improve comfort and safety in rough sea conditions. This study investigates the influence of retractable bow hydrofoils on the seakeeping performance and operational conditions of a selected case study vessel (V-shaped...

Pluralist View on Inequality from Luxemburg Income Study (LIS)
PublicationThe authors start by reviewing the history of the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS), originating from an interdisciplinary project involving economists, sociologists, and political scientists, centered on the cross-country perspective in inequality analysis. They then conduct a meta-analysis of the papers produced by scholars who have taken advantage of the data availability, showing how the theme of income/wealth inequality has been...

Western Front of the City Centre of Gdańsk. An Urban Conservation Study
PublicationThe western front of Gdańsk`s city centre is the key fragment of a ring road scheme, which was created at the turn of the 20th century during the great transformation of the city. It was at that time that new streets and squares were delineated on the site of the early modern earthen bastions, which for more than three centuries marked Gdańsk`s border. The new city development was set up in their surroundings. In 1945, Gdańsk was...

Experimental study of the multi-disc negative brake for a hydraulic motor
PublicationThis paper describes the methodology for experimental testing of a multi-disc brake. The construction of this brake was also present. The brake is dedicated to hydraulic motors with a small working volume. Experimental tests were carried out on a brake with plates immersed in oil and, for comparison, tests were carried out on a dry brake. As a result of the tests, the permissible torque (load) that is able to transfer the brake...

Improving medical experts’ efficiency of misinformation detection: an exploratory study
PublicationFighting medical disinformation in the era of the pandemic is an increasingly important problem. Today, automatic systems for assessing the credibility of medical information do not offer sufficient precision, so human supervision and the involvement of medical expert annotators are required. Our work aims to optimize the utilization of medical experts’ time. We also equip them with tools for semi-automatic initial verification...

Study of the Resistance to Influence of Aggressive Liquids on Concrete with Lightweight Aggregate
PublicationThe corrosion of the structure of concrete caused by the aggressive external environment is one of the main problems that can reduce the durability of buildings. The paper analyzes the influence of the type of component on selected properties of lightweight concrete (LWC) exposed to aggressive liquids. When lightweight concrete containing porous aggregates is used, the influence of an aggressive environment may be of particular...
