Assessment of under power ed propulsion machinery in electrically driven small inland waterway passenger ships from classification society point of view
PublikacjaPaper presents short operat ional a nd engineering analysis of underpowered propulsion in small electrically propelled small inland passenger ships. There is evidence that in certain weather conditions the phenomena of added aerodynamic resistance of small water crafts may have seriou s influence on their speed and manoeuvrability. Existing regulations like class societies rules for ship classification and construction or EU Directive 2006/87/EC do...

Positive solutions to boundary value problems for impulsive second-order differential equations
PublikacjaIn this paper, we discuss four-point boundary value problems for impulsive second-order differential equations. We apply the Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem to obtain sufficient conditions under which the impulsive second-order differential equations have positive solutions. An example is added to illustrate theoretical results.

Mutual Interaction between Temperature and DO Set Point on AOB and NOB Activity during Shortcut Nitrification in a Sequencing Batch Reactor in Terms of Energy Consumption Optimization
PublikacjaRecently, many wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have had to deal with serious problems related to the restrictive requirements regarding the euent quality, as well as significant energy consumption associated with it. In this situation, mainstream deammonification and/or shortened nitrification-denitrification via nitrite (so-called “nitrite shunt”) is a new promising strategy. This study shows the mechanisms and operating conditions...

Fractional equations of Volterra type involving a Riemann Liouville derivative
PublikacjaIn this paper, we discuss the existence of solutions of fractional equations of Volterra type with the Riemann Liouville derivative. Existence results are obtained by using a Banach fixed point theorem with weighted norms and by a monotone iterative method too. An example illustrates the results.

FPGA-Based System for Electromagnetic Interference Evaluation in Random Modulated DC/DC Converters
PublikacjaField-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) provides the possibility to design new “electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) friendly” control techniques for power electronic converters. Such control techniques use pseudo-random modulators (RanM) to control the converter switches. However, some issues connected with the FPGA-based design of RanM, such as matching the range of fixed-point numbers, might be challenging. The modern programming...

Partial hyperbolicity and central shadowing
PublikacjaWe study shadowing property for a partially hyperbolic diffeomor- phism f. It is proved that if f is dynamically coherent then any pseudotrajec- tory can be shadowed by a pseudotrajectory with “jumps” along the central foliation. The proof is based on the Tikhonov-Shauder fixed point theorem.

Birch wood (Betula pendula Roth) is an excellent source to produce plywood boards. Wastes from mechanical processing of birch wood are suitable to produce composite materials. Granulometric analyses of chips from sawing processes on the PRW 15M frame saw,...

Fractional Problems with Right-Handed Riemann-Liouville Fractional Derivatives
PublikacjaIn this paper, we investigate the existence of solutions for advanced fractional differential equations containing the right-handed Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative both with nonlinear boundary conditions and also with initial conditions given at the end point T of interval [0,T ]. We use both the method of successive approximations, the Banach fixed point theorem and the monotone iterative technique, as well. Linear problems...

Positive solutions to advanced fractional differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions
PublikacjaWe study the existence of positive solutions for a class of higher order fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and boundary value problems involving Stieltjes integral conditions. The fixed point theorem due to Avery-Peterson is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple positive solutions. Certain of our results improve on recent work in the literature.

Optimum Control of Gyroscopic Systems
PublikacjaThe problem of optimum control of transverse rotor vibrations with gyroscopic interactions has been described and solved in the paper. An integral performance index has been defined for such system in order to minimize vibration level of a chosen rotor point. For this reason, an efficient way of finding the weight coefficients of integral performance index for multi-degrees-of-freedom system with gyroscopic interactions has been...

Functional delay fractional equations
PublikacjaIn this paper, we discuss functional delay fractional equations. A Banach fixed point theorem is applied to obtain the existence (uniqueness) theorem. We also discuss such problems when a delay argument has a form α(t) = αt, 0 < α < 1, by Rusing the method of successive approximations. Some existence results are also formulated in this case. An example illustrates the main result.

Computations of the least number of periodic points of smooth boundary-preserving self-maps of simply-connected manifolds
PublikacjaLet $r$ be an odd natural number, $M$ a compact simply-connected smooth manifold, $\dim M\geq 4$, such that its boundary $\partial M$ is also simply-connected. We consider $f$, a $C^1$ self-maps of $M$, preserving $\partial M$. In [G. Graff and J. Jezierski, Geom. Dedicata 187 (2017), 241-258] the smooth Nielsen type periodic number $D_r(f;M,\partial M)$ was defined and proved to be equal to the minimal number of $r$-periodic points...

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for single-population McKendrick-von Foerster models with renewal

The vast majority of size-structured models are also treatable. Our model generalizes a number...

Relationship between GIX, SIDX, and ROTI ionospheric indices and GNSS precise positioning results under geomagnetic storms
PublikacjaIonospheric indices give information about ionospheric perturbations, which may cause absorption, diffraction, refraction, and scattering of radio signals, including those from global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Therefore, there may be a relationship between index values and GNSS positioning results. A thorough understanding of ionospheric indices and their relationship to positioning results can help monitor and forecast...

An algorithmic approach to estimating the minimal number of periodic points for smooth self-maps of simply-connected manifolds
PublikacjaFor a given self-map f of M, a closed smooth connected and simply-connected manifold of dimension m 4, we provide an algorithm for estimating the values of the topological invariant D^m_r [f], which equals the minimal number of r-periodic points in the smooth homotopy class of f. Our results are based on the combinatorial scheme for computing D^m_r [f] introduced by G. Graff and J. Jezierski [J. Fixed Point Theory Appl. 13 (2013),...

Positive solutions to second-order differential equations with dependence on the first-order derivative and nonlocal boundary conditions

Modeling of entrained flow steam gasification of sewage sludge
PublikacjaProper management of sewage sludge becomes increasingly problematic due to legal requirements aiming at diminishing environmental impact, as well as rationalizing the utilization from the point of view of logistics. Steam gasification of sewage sludge can result in very good quality of the producer gas. So far, the works have been focused on the gasification in fixed bed gasifiers. However, this does not allow to take full advantage...

ESTIMATING AVERSION TO RANK INEQUALITY UNDERLYING SELECTED ITALIAN INDICES OF INCOME INEQUALITY
PublikacjaIn this paper, we estimate aversion to rank inequality (ATRI) underlying selected Italian income inequality indices, I, notably the Pietra index, the Bonferroni index and the “new” Zenga index. We measure ATRI by the parameter v of the generalised Gini index G(v). ATRI is distinct from aversion to income inequality, as measured by parameter ε of Atkinson’s index A(ε). We propose eliciting v from the equation I = GE(v). As, in general,...
