Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in hospitality and tourism
PublikacjaThe tourism industry, interesting and challenging, faces structural human resource problems such as skills shortages and staff turnover, seasonality and a high percentage of small to medium enterprises whose employees have limited time for training or education. Large tourism enterprises often span countries and continents, such as hotel chains, airlines, cruise companies and car rentals, where the employees need similar training...

Influence of soil anisotropic stiffness on the deformation induced by an open pit excavation.
PublikacjaIn this paper, the problem of deformation induced by an open pit excavation in anisotropic stiff soils is analysed by FE modelling. The presented research is focused on the influence of material model with anisotropic stiffness on the accuracy of deformation predictions as compared with the field measurements. A new hyperelastic-plastic model is applied to simulate anisotropic mechanical behaviour of stiff soils. It is capable...

Evaluation of open drone map toolkit for geodetic grade aerial drone mapping – case study
PublikacjaAn open source tool’s popularity has increased considerably, as well as micro aerial vehicles (MAV) technologies based on open source hardware. An open source software and hardware delivers a wide variety of applications and technology. The world’s most successful open source projects have their roots in the academy, and now its participation includes a wide variety of academic programs and research. Based on open source technology,...

OPERATION OF TWO-SHAFT GAS TURBINE IN THE RANGE OF OPEN ANTI-SURGE VALVE
PublikacjaThis paper presents experimental tests of full-scale two-shaft gas turbine in the range of open anti-surge valve (ASV). The tests were carried out in a laboratory gas- turbine test stand belonging to Department of Automation and Power Engineering , Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology , Gdańsk University of Technology. The tests covered the start-up and low load operation of the turbine set in the range of open...

The role of isolated farmsteads in the open landscape protection on the example of Kashubia
PublikacjaAs a result of the social and economic transformation of rural areas, open landscapes are disappearing. Former farmsteads are being devastated or beginning to lose their landscape context due to the spread of residential building development. At the same time, in many places, the farmstead form is clearly legible and remains an element with which the view is structured and enriched. The article was aimed at drawing attention to...

Using Continuous Integration Techniques in Open Source Projects – An Exploratory Study
PublikacjaFor a growing number of software projects, continuous integration (CI) techniques are becoming an essential part of the process. However, the maturity of their adoption in open source projects varies. In this paper, we present an empirical study on GitHub repositories to explore the use of continuous integration techniques in open source projects. Following the Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) approach, 3 research questions and 7 metrics...

Open smart glasses development platform for AAL applications
PublikacjaThis paper describes an open platform for multi sensory electronic glasses that supports new and enhanced methods for intelligent interaction with patients, with smart objects, or to be used as new data input modalities like proximity sensor or smart textile interfaces. All the activities have been developed, investigated and evaluated within EU CHIST-ERA eGlasses project...

Analysis of radiometric signal in sedimentating suspension flow in open channel
PublikacjaThe article discusses issues related to the estimation of the sedimentating solid particles average flow velocity in an open channel using radiometric methods. Due to the composition of the compound, which formed water and diatomite, received data have a very weak signal to noise ratio. In the process analysis the known determining of the solid phase transportation time delay the classical cross-correlation function is the most...

Research, theories and practical experience of therapeutic landscapes as a tool for urban open space design
PublikacjaThis paper reviews the research on therapeutic landscapes and discusses the design of urban parks and open green space. Firstly, the most relevant research on therapeutic landscapes is reviewed. Secondly, the practical experience of healing and therapeutic gardens is discussed. Finally, the conclusions leading to future use of therapeutic landscape concept in urban open space design are presented.

Assessing the failure of Open Government Data initiatives in Brazil
PublikacjaWhile assessing the potential of a particular digital innovation initiative, especially when it has implications for a range of societal stakeholders, it becomes pertinent to understand the possible bottlenecks in its acceptability as well. In this regard, the present study seeks to understand how the Open Government Data (OGD) initiatives in Brazil are being confronted with bottlenecks in terms of their execution and acceptability....

Open standards-based communication system for distributed intelligent surveillance solution
PublikacjaThe paper presents an open standards-based communication system being a part of a distributed surveillance solution. The paradigm of “intelligent” surveillance approach is introduced, and employed video processing is discussed briefly. Requirements analysis toward the design of communication subsystem architecture is presented. Special attention is paid to the multimedia streaming functionality of presented solution, which is based...

No-Wait & No-Idle Open Shop Minimum Makespan Scheduling with Bioperational Jobs
PublikacjaIn the open shop scheduling with bioperational jobs each job consists of two unit operations with a delay between the end of the first operation and the beginning of the second one. No-wait requirement enforces that the delay between operations is equal to 0. No-idle means that there is no idle time on any machine. We model this problem by the interval incidentor (1, 1)-coloring (IIR(1, 1)-coloring) of a graph with the minimum...

Open Innovation Competence for a Future-Proof Workforce: A Comparative Study from Four European Universities
PublikacjaDigital transformation is a key driving force of open innovation to capture and transfer knowledge inside and outside of a company’s bounds. New challenges in organizing multiple knowledge flows imply the need for increased competences related to this paradigm of future employees. In this article, we organize and aggregate the competencies required for open innovation collaboration and develop a competence profile that organizes...

Normal-form preemption sequences for an open problem in scheduling theory
PublikacjaStructural properties of optimal preemptive schedules have been studied in a number of recent papers with a primary focus on two structural parameters: the minimum number of preemptions necessary, and a tight lower bound on shifts, i.e., the sizes of intervals bounded by the times created by preemptions, job starts, or completions. These two parameters have been investigated for a large class of preemptive scheduling problems,...

Synchronic digital stereophotography and photogrammetric analyses in monitoring the flow of liquids in open channels
PublikacjaThe authors present the results of their research into photogrammetric documents based on synchronic digital images. Examples presented in the paper indicate the value of synchronic stereophotography in registering phenomena connected with liquids. Combining synchronic stereophotography with photogrammetric methods has allowed the authors to develop an application useful for monitoring the flow of a liquid in an open channel.

Open-Set Speaker Identification Using Closed-Set Pretrained Embeddings
PublikacjaThe paper proposes an approach for extending deep neural networks-based solutions to closed-set speaker identification toward the open-set problem. The idea is built on the characteristics of deep neural networks trained for the classification tasks, where there is a layer consisting of a set of deep features extracted from the analyzed inputs. By extracting this vector and performing anomaly detection against the set of known...
