Propulsion and Maneuvering Systems’ Characteristics of the U.S. Flagged Great Lakes Self-Unloading Bulk Carriers
PublikacjaPaper contains an overview of the propulsion and maneuvering systems’ characteristics of United States flagged Great Lakes self - unloading bulk carriers. A contrast between the importance of the transport task carried by those vessels to their low number and considerable age suggests the need to review and understand their complexity as well as complexity of their operations in order to provide suitable energy- and operational...

Modeling the global atmospheric transport and deposition of mercury to the Great Lakes
PublikacjaMercury contamination in the Great Lakes continues to have important public health and wildlife ecotoxicology impacts, and atmospheric deposition is a significant ongoing loading pathway. The objective of this study was to estimate the amount and source-attribution for atmospheric mercury deposition to each lake, information needed to prioritize amelioration efforts. A new global, Eulerian version of the HYSPLIT-Hg model was used...

Propulsion system with a hydraulic transmision for a low draught inland vessel
PublikacjaW artykule przedstawiono założenia i uwarunkowania techniczne oraz projekt koncepcyjny dwóch wariantów układu napędowego statku śródlądowego o małym zanurzeniu. Oba warianty dotyczą systemu Diesel-hydraulicznego, przy czym pierwszy - z tradycyjną, poziomą linią wałów i śrubami stałymi w wychylnych dyszach Korta, a drugi - z pędnikami azymutalnymi. Projekt zawiera schemat systemu napędowego oraz wizualizację rozmieszczenia podstawowych...

Nongeminate recombination in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells: Contribution of exciton–polaron interaction
PublikacjaA new model to explain nongeminate recombination in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells is presented. We suggest that the annihilation of excitons on charge carriers at the interface between donor and acceptor phases competes with the bimolecular recombination of Coulombically bound electron–hole pairs. The exciton–polaron interaction gives visible contribution to the reduction of Langevin recombination. An analytical formula,...

Four-body recombination in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells: an alternative interpretation
PublikacjaWe demonstrate a new interpretation of the previously reported quadrimolecular recombination in organic bulk heterojunction solar cells. It is suggested that the recently described (Szmytkowski 2012 Phys. Status Solidi RRL 6 300) interaction between exciton and electron–hole Langevin bound pair formed across the donor–acceptor interface is a four-particle process. This is in opposition to the treatment of this effect as a three-particle...

Quality measure of VoIP services in carrier grade systems
PublikacjaThis paper describes passive measurement method of VoIP services quality in carrier grade systems, engaging slight system resources. Measurement is based on analyzing quality information in sender and receiver reports in RTCP packets sent by the end points of RTP session. Data is analyzed and stored by Session Boarder Controllers SBC. Objective evaluation of VoIP calls is based on quality information of IP connection and voice...

Operation, Administration, Maintenance in Carrier Grade Ethernet
PublikacjaOAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) plays a crucial role in carrier networks. OAM functionality ensures that network operators and service providers can maintain the quality of the services they offer. One of its major tasks is the detection of anomalies in the network before they become a problem. This enables network operators and service providers to deliver services that come up to a predetermined level of quality...

Buckling analyses of cylindrical metal silos containing bulk solids
PublikacjaThe paper presents quasi-static 3D buckling analysis results of thin-walled cylindrical metal silos with and without bulk solids. The behaviour of the bulk solid was described with a hypoplastic constitutive model. Non-linear analyses with geometric and material non-linearity were performed with a perfect and an imperfect silo shell. Different initial geometric imperfections were considered. The influence of internally stored bulk...

ENERGY EFFICIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HYBRID CONVERSION OF INLAND PASSENGER VESSEL
PublikacjaThe development and growing availability of modern technologies, along with more and more severe environment protection standards which frequently take a form of legal regulations, are the reason why attempts are made to find a quiet and economical propulsion system not only for newly built watercraft units, but also for modernised ones. Correct selection of the propulsion and supply system for a given vessel affects significantly...

Analysis of data fusion algorithms for the vessel with the dynamic positioning system
PublikacjaThe dynamic positioning (DP) system on the vessel is operated to control the position and heading of the vessel with the use of propellers and thrusters installed on the board. On DP vessels redundant measurement systems of position, heading and the magnitude and direction of environmental forces are required for safety at sea. In this case, a fusion of data is needed from individual measurement devices. The article proposes a...

Aggregation of Rhodamine 6G in titanium dioxide nanolayers and bulk xerogels
PublikacjaNanolayers and bulk xerogels of Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) in titanium dioxide (Rh6G/TiO2) were prepared using the sol–gel method. The spectroscopic and structural properties of these two types of hybrid matrices were studied as a function of dye concentration. In both cases absorption, fluorescence and time resolved emission spectra show the formation of fluorescent aggregates. The observed stronger changes in characteristics of bulk...
