Comparison of Single and Multi-Population Evolutionary Algorithm for Path Planning in Navigation Situation
PublikacjaIn this paper a comparison of single and multi-population evolutionary algorithm is presented. Tested algorithms are used to determine close to optimal ship paths in collision avoidance situation. For this purpose a path planning problem is defined. A specific structure of the individual path and fitness function is presented. Principle of operation of single-population and multi-population evolutionary algorithm is described....

Existence and uniqueness of solutions for single-population McKendrick-von Foerster models with renewal
PublikacjaWe study a McKendrick-von Foerster type equation with renewal. This model is represented by a single equation which describes one species which produces young individuals. The renewal condition is linear but takes into account some history of the population. This model addresses nonlocal interactions between individuals structured by age. The vast majority of size-structured models are also treatable. Our model generalizes a number...

Systems, environments, and soliton rate equations: A non-Kolmogorovian framework for population dynamics
PublikacjaSoliton rate equations are based on non-Kolmogorovian models of probability and naturally include autocatalytic processes. The formalism is not widely known but has great unexplored potential for applications to systems interacting with environments. Beginning with links of contextuality to non- Kolmogorovity we introduce the general formalism of soliton rate equations and work out explicit examples of subsystems interacting with...

Entropic Measures of Complexity of Short-Term Dynamics of Nocturnal Heartbeats in an Aging Population
PublikacjaTwo entropy-based approaches are investigated to study patterns describing differences in time intervals between consecutive heartbeats. The first method explores matrices arising from networks of transitions constructed following events represented by a time series. The second method considers distributions of ordinal patterns of length three, whereby patterns with repeated values are counted as different patterns. Both methods provide...

Changes in the addiction prevalence in Polish population between 1990-2019: Review of available data
PublikacjaThe 1989 collapse of the socialist political system in Poland initiated an avalanche of modifications regarding healthcare policy resulting with new institutions and programs dedicated to monitoring and preventing addiction. In the current article, we look at the available data allowing to track changes in (1) the prevalence of exposure to addictive substances and behaviors, and (2) changes of addictions prevalence in Poland...

Rearrangements of the nitrifiers population in an activated sludge system under decreasing solids retention times
PublikacjaDue to the key role of nitrite in novel nitrogen removal systems, nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) have been receiving increasing attention. In this study, the coexistence and interactions of nitrifying bacteria were explored at decreasing solids retention times (SRTs). Four 5-week washout experiments were carried out in laboratory-scale (V=10 L) sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) with mixed liquor from two full-scale activated sludge...

Bistability in a One-Dimensional Model of a Two-Predators-One-Prey Population Dynamics System
PublikacjaIn this paper, we study a classical two-predators-one-prey model. The classical model described by a system of three ordinary differential equations can be reduced to a one-dimensional bimodalmap. We prove that this map has at most two stable periodic orbits. Besides, we describe the bifurcation structure of the map. Finally, we describe a mechanism that leads to bistable regimes. Taking this mechanism into account, one can easily...

Study on population dynamics for triple-linked food chain using a simulation-based approach
PublikacjaThe procedures based on simulation have become a feasible testing method that does not require investing valuable resources to create a concrete prototype, especially with the increasing computational power of computers. Thus, design changes can be adopted and design errors can be fixed before it is too late. Simulation turns to be a cheap, safe and often more acceptable from an ethical perspective. In our work we summarize the...

Static in vitro digestion model adapted to the general older adult population: an INFOGEST international consensus
PublikacjaUnderstanding the mechanisms of food digestion is of paramount importance to determine the effect foods have on human health. Significant knowledge on the fate of food during digestion has been generated in healthy adults due to the development of physiologically-relevant in vitro digestion models. However, it appears that the performance of the oro-gastrointestinal tract is affected by ageing and that a model simulating the digestive...

Population-based case-control study of alpha 1-antitrypsin and SLC11A1 in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
PublikacjaBackground: Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract. Genetic factors and an abnormal immune response to infections are suspected to be involved in inflammatory bowel diseases. Methods: In the present study 300 blood samples from CD patients (n 100), UC patients (n 100), and healthy controls (n 100) were taken from a population-based case-control study. PCR assays...

PublikacjaPodwyższony poziom cholesterolu odgrywa kluczową rolę w rozwoju miażdżycy i jej powikłań. Potwierdziły to liczne badania anatomopatologiczne, badania przekrojowe i prospektywne obserwacje epidemiologiczne.

Pilot study of the influence of thermoplastic starch based polymer packaging material on the growth of diatom population in sea water environment
PublikacjaNovel polymeric packaging materials susceptible to environmentally friendly decomposition appeared on the global market. The paper is devoted to an investigation of the impact of degradable polymer packaging on marine life. The chosen polymer was a commercial packaging based on thermoplastic starch (TPS over 85%). The microorganism chosen was Phaeodactylum tricornutum diatom (identified in many aquatic reservoirs, with a tendency...
