  • Parametric versus nonparametric modelling of dynamic susceptibility contrast enhanced MRI based data

    Publication

Dynamic tracking of a bolus of a paramagnetic agent (dynamic susceptibility contract - DSC) in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) measurements is successfully used for assessment of the tissue perfusion and the other features and functions of the brain (i.e. cerebral blood flow - CBF, cerebral blood volume - CBV, mean transit time - MTT). The parametric and nonparametric approaches to the identification of MRI models are presented...

    - BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH - Year 2021

Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of mild cerebral hypoxia on haemoglobin oxygenation(HbO2), cerebrospinal fluid dynamics and cardiovascular physiology. To achieve this goal, four signals were recorded simultaneously: blood pressure, heart rate / electrocardiogram, HbO2 from right hemisphere and changes of subarachnoid space (SAS) width from left hemisphere. Signals were registered from 30 healthy,...

    - Scientific Reports - Year 2018

Abnormal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pulsatility has been implicated in patients suffering from various diseases, including multiple sclerosis and hypertension. CSF pulsatility results in subarachnoid space (SAS) width changes, which can be measured with near-infrared transillumination backscattering sounding (NIR-T/BSS). The aim of this study was to combine NIR-T/BSS and wavelet analysis methods to characterise the dynamics of the...

    - MOLECULAR NEUROBIOLOGY - Year 2023

Estrogens function in numerous physiological processes including controlling brain cell growth and differentiation. 2-Meth- oxestradiol (2-ME2), a 17β-estradiol (E2) metabolite, is known for its anticancer effects as observed both in vivo and in vitro. 2-ME2 affects all actively dividing cells, including neurons. The study aimed to determine whether 2-ME2 is a potentially cancer-protective or rather neurodegenerative agent in a...

    - Postępy Dermatologii i Alergologii - Year 2020

Psoriasis is a multifactorial disease in which genetic, environmental and epigenetic factors regulating gene expression play a key role. In the “genomic era”, genome-wide association studies together with target genotyping platforms performed in different ethnic populations have found more than 50 genetic susceptible markers associated with the risk of psoriasis which have been identified so far. Up till now, the strongest association...

  • Social Differentiation of the Perception and Human Tissues Donation for Research Purposes.

    Publication

The willingness to donate human biological material for research purposes is shaped by socio-cultural factors; however, there is a lack of studies analysing the social perception of different human tissues, which may affect such willingness. This study aimed to distinguish different sociocultural categories of human tissues and types of potential donors based on their willingness to donate material. Quantitative research was...

    - INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES - Year 2021

Ischemic stroke is a disturbance in cerebral blood flow caused by brain tissue ischemia and hypoxia. We optimized a multifactorial in vitro model of acute ischemic stroke using rat primary neural cultures. This model was exploited to investigate the pro-viable activity of cell-penetrating peptides: arginine-rich Tat(49–57)-NH2 (R49KKRRQRRR57-amide) and its less basic analogue, PTD4 (Y47ARAAARQARA57-amide). Our model included glucose...

    - PHARMACOLOGY BIOCHEMISTRY AND BEHAVIOR - Year 2020

In the present study, we examined whether LDK1258, which produces strong CB1receptor allosteric effects ininvitroassays, would elicitin vivoeffects consistent with allosteric activity. In initial studies, LDK1258 reducedfood consumption and elicited delayed antinociceptive effects in the chronic constrictive injury of the sciaticnerve (CCI) model of neuropathic pain, which unexpectedly emerged 4 h post-injection. UPLC-MS/MS analysisquantified...

  • Curb-to-Barrier Face Distance Variation an a TB51 Bridge Barrier Crash Test Simulation

This paper addresses the problem of road safety regarding barrier placement as relative to the curb. A short summary of existing regulations is presented. Numerical simulations using the explicit finite element system Ls- Dyna are shown. In the analysis, variable distance between the barrier and the curb is assumed. The obtained result reveals that the distance has little impact on the working width of the barrier.

In order to highlight the characteristics of the West End of Wrocław, we conducted a site analysis. Using the strengths of the site, we were able to create a unique concept of the district while minimizing the impacts of weaknesses by design. The purpose of redesigning the West End of Wrocław is to attract new people to the district through the transformation of an identity. Initially, we conducted a SWOT analysis to identify the...

  • Numerical crash analysis of the cable barrier

Safety barriers are used to increase road safety. Their basic task is to prevent the errant vehicle from getting off the road in places which are potentially dangerous for vehicle passengers. Barriers, which are used on European roads, must fulfill the requirements of EN 1317 standards by passing appropriate crash tests. Because of their high cost, numerical simulations are increasingly used to evaluate the properties of safety...

  • Direct electrical brain stimulation of human memory: lessons learnt and future perspectives

Modulation of cognitive functions supporting human declarative memory is one of the grand challenges of neuroscience, and of vast importance for a variety of neuropsychiatric, neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases. Despite a recent surge of successful attempts at improving performance in a range of memory tasks, the optimal approaches and parameters for memory enhancement have yet to be determined. On a more fundamental...

  • Deep Learning-Based, Multiclass Approach to Cancer Classification on Liquid Biopsy Data

    Publication

    - IEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine-JTEHM - Year 2024

The field of cancer diagnostics has been revolutionized by liquid biopsies, which offer a bridge between laboratory research and clinical settings. These tests are less invasive than traditional biopsies and more convenient than routine imaging methods. Liquid biopsies allow studying of tumor-derived markers in bodily fluids, enabling the development of more precise cancer diagnostic tests for screening, disease monitoring, and...

  • Blood equivalent phantom vs whole human blood, a comparative study

Preclinical research of biomedical optoelectronic devices is often performed with the use of blood phantoms — a simpli¯ed physical model of blood. The aim of this study is the comparison and distinction between blood phantoms as well as whole human blood measurements. We show how the use of such phantoms may in°uence the incorrect interpretation of measured signal. On the other hand, we highlight how the use of blood phantoms enables...

  • Al-DIAMOND SCHOTTKY TUNNEL DIODES WITH BARRIER HEIGHT CONTROL

    Publication

    - Year 2013

Few-nanometer-thick very highly boron-doped p-type layers were fabricated at metal-semiconductor interfaces of Schottky barrier diodes formed with aluminum on polycrystalline diamond. Preliminary results show that hermionically-assisted tunneling mechanism results in lower voltage drops at forward biasing of these diodes than expected for the Al-diamond metal-semiconductor potential barrier B. The effective barrier height Bpeff...

  • Pathological brain network activity: memory impairment in epilepsy
