Combined thrust radial bearing of a submarine main shaft – Design and analysis of failure
PublicationThis paper presents an analysis of the combined thrust radial bearing of a submarine propulsion shaft. The lubrication system of the bearing is based on a fixed ring. The efficiency of the lubrication system depends on the shaft speed and temperature, which affects oil viscosity. In turn, the thrust bearing load also depends on the rotational speed of the shaft, because as the speed increases, the drag of the ship increases simultaneously,...

A novel method of time-frequency analysis: an essential spectrogram
PublicationA novel precise method of time-frequency analysis is presented. In the algorithm, a new energy distribution is estimated by simultaneously discard or displacement of the classical spec- trogram energy. A channelized instantaneous frequency and a local group delay are used in order to replacement in the same manner as formulated by Kodera et al. [1, 2]. Additionally, new representations: a channelized instantaneous bandwidth and...

Speed sensorless ac drive with inverter output filter and fault detection using load torque signal
PublicationIn this paper, a sensorless induction motor (IM) drive using speed observer system is presented. The system includes load torque computation for gear fault detection. Nonlinear control method is adopted for controlling the motor over a wide speed range. An LC filter for smoothing current and voltage waveforms is used at the output of the voltage inverter. The use of filter imposes more building of the used observer to avoid using...

Decoding of the FSK signal with noise and distortion with the use of coefficients of the time-frequency transform.
PublicationStreszczenie: Przeanalizowano sygnał z modulacją FSK wykorzystując metodę transformacji czasowo-częstotliwościowej różniące się sposobem podziału płaszczyzny TF na atomy: krótko-okresowej transformacji Fouriera, transformacji falkowej i transformacji pakietami falkowymi. Transformacja falkowa zapewnia dobrą lokalizację czasową zakłóceń o wielkiej częstotliwości, podczas gdy transformacja pakietami falkowymi zapewnia dobrą lokalizację...

Modeling of a rock fall using the discrete element method and study of the seismic signal

Influence of accelerometer signal pre-processing and classification method on human activity recognition
PublicationA study of data pre-processing influence on accelerometer-based human activity recognition algorithms is presented. The frequency band used to filter-out the accelerometer signals and the number of accelerometers involved were considered in terms of their influence on the recognition accuracy. In the test four methods of classification were used: support vector machine, decision trees, neural network, k-nearest neighbor.

Biological responses to environmental contamination. How can metal pollution impact signal honesty in avian species?
PublicationEnvironmental pollution, for example with metals, can significantly affect the ecosystem balance leading to severe changes. Biologically active pigments are relevant for the appearance and condition of birds. Melanin and carotenoid particles are the most frequently deposited pigments in avian integument. They are responsible for the majority of colors of bird plumage. The phenotypic expression can be affected by metal contamination....
