Treatment Wetland effluent quality improvement by usage sorbents of various origin
PublicationTWs are finding as low-cost and also effective system to treat domestic wastewater. The aim of this study is to find suitable adsorbing material for application in an additional treatment unit where treatment wetlands do not provide sufficient PO4 3- reduction level. Material M1 is a fine-grained by-product of thermal treatment of carbonate-siliceous rock (opoka) with high content of calcium carbonate CaCO3 in temperature 700°C....

Perfect hashing with pseudo-minimal bottom-up deterministic tree automata
PublicationWe describe a technique that maps unranked trees to their hash codes using a bottom-up deterministic tree automaton (DTA). In contrast to techniques implemented with minimal tree automata, our procedure builds a pseudo-minimal DTA. Pseudo-minimal automata are larger than the minimal ones but in turn the mapping can be arbitrary, so it can be determined prior to the automaton construction. We also provide procedures to build incrementally...

Design of three control algorithms for an averaging tank with variable filing
PublicationAn averaging tank with variable filling is a nonlinear multidimensional system and can thus be considered a complex control sys-tem. General control objectives of such object include ensuring stability, zero steady state error and achieving simultaneously shortest possible settling time and minimal overshoot. The main purpose of this research work was the modelling and synthesis of three control systems for an averaging tank. In...

Non-conventional approach in single-sided lapping process: kinematic analysis and parameters optimization
PublicationThe lapping process is strongly affected by a number of input parameters. One of the fundamental mechanical processes in lapping is the abrasive effect of particles. In order to examine the influence of the kinematic parameters on the lapping uniformity of unconventional single-sided machine, numerical simulations of particles sliding trajectories are performed. Changing the kinematic parameters, e.g., rotational velocities or...

Hybrid no-signaling-quantum correlations
PublicationFundamental investigations in non-locality have shown that while the no-signaling principle alone is not sufficient to single out the set of quantum non-local correlations, local quantum mechanics and no-signaling together exactly reproduce the set of quantum correlations in the two-party Bell scenario. Here, we introduce and study an intermediate hybrid no-signaling quantum set of non-local correlations that we term HNSQ in the...

Optymalizacja procesów biologicznych w oczyszczalni ścieków typu SBR
PublicationObiektem zainteresowania jest biologiczna, sekwencyjna oczyszczalnia ścieków (Sequ-encing Batch Reactor – SBR). Jest to złożony system sterowania z powodu nieliniowej dyna-miki, niepewności, wielu skal czasu, wielowymiarowości i braku wystarczającej liczby pomia-rów. Warunkiem koniecznym zachodzenia większości procesów biologicznych jest dostar-czenie bakteriom oczyszczającym ścieki, odpowiedniej ilości tlenu, za pomocą instalacji...

Mater-Bi/Brewers’ Spent Grain Biocomposites—Novel Approach to Plant-Based Waste Filler Treatment by Highly Efficient Thermomechanical and Chemical Methods
PublicationThermoplastic starch (TPS) is a homogenous material prepared from native starch and water or other plasticizers subjected to mixing at a temperature exceeding starch gelatinization temperature. It shows major drawbacks like high moisture sensitivity, poor mechanical properties, and thermal stability. To overcome these drawbacks without significant cost increase, TPS could be blended with bio-based or biodegradable polymers and...

Bimetallic Bi/Cu0-catalyzed persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes towards clofibric acid degradation in wastewater
PublicationClofibric acid (CFA), an important blood-lipid regulatory drug is an emerging organic pollutant and widely reported in water resources. A novel bimetallic, bismuth/zero valent cupper (Bi/Cu0) catalyst was prepared which showed better physiological, structural, and catalytic properties than Cu0. The Bi/Cu0 effectively catalyzed persulfate (S2O82−) and caused 85% degradation of CFA. The Bi coupling improved reusability and stability...

The role of biodegradable particulate and colloidal organic compounds in biological nutrient removal activated sludge systems
PublicationThe efficiency of denitrification and enhanced biological phosphorus removal in biological nutrient removal activated sludge systems is strongly dependent on the availability of appropriate carbon sources. Due to high costs of commercial compounds (such as methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, etc.) and acclimation periods (usually) required, the effective use of internal substrates is preferred. The aim of this study was to determine...
