Synthesis, molecular structure, and metabolic stability of new series of N' -(2-alkylthio-4-chloro-5-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-1-(5-phenyl-1 H -pyrazol-1-yl)amidine as potential anti-cancer agents
PublicationA series of new N'-(2-alkylthio-4-chloro-5-methylbenzenesulfonyl)-1-(5-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)amidine derivatives have been synthesized and evaluated in vitro by MTT assays for their antiproliferative activity against cell lines of colon cancer HCT-116, cervical cancer HeLa and breast cancer MCF-7. The studied compounds display selective activity mainly against HCT-116 and HeLa cells. Thus, five compounds show selective cytotoxic...

Multi-criteria Robot Selection Problem for an Automated Single-Sided Lapping System
PublicationFlat lapping is a crucial process in a number of precision manufacturing technologies. Its aim is to achieve extremely high flatness of the workpiece. Single-sided lapping machines have usually standard kinematic systems and are used in conjunction with conditioning rings, which are set properly be-tween the center and the periphery of the lapping plate. In this paper, instead of conventional single-side lapping machine, an automated...

Inhibition of T-type calcium channel disrupts Akt signaling and promotes apoptosis in glioblastoma cells.
PublicationGlioblastoma multiforme (GBM) are brain tumors that are exceptionally resitant to both radio- and chemotherapy regimens and novel approaches to treatment are needed. T-type calcium channels are one type of low voltage-gated channel (LVCC) involved in embryonic cell proliferation and differentiation; however they are often over-expressed in tumors, including GBM. In this study, we found that inhibition of T-type Ca channels in GBM...

Galvanostatic impedance measurements for the efficient adsorption isotherm construction in corrosion inhibitor studies
PublicationWe present an approach towards an accurate and time-efficient adsorption isotherm determination to evaluate the corrosion inhibitor interaction in electrolytic environments. The approach is based on dynamic impedance spectroscopy measurements in galvanostatic mode (g-DEIS). The studied corrosion inhibitor is continuously injected between the secondary cell and the corrosion cell. The efficiency corresponding to instantaneous inhibitor...

Distinct hippocampal-prefrontal neural assemblies coordinate memory encoding, maintenance, and recall
PublicationShort-term memory enables incorporation of recent experience into subsequent decision-making. This processing recruits both the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus, where neurons encode task cues, rules, and outcomes. However, precisely which information is carried when, and by which neurons, remains unclear. Using population decoding of activity in rat medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and dorsal hippocampal CA1, we confirm that mPFC...

Impact of the trap–assisted recombination in the perovskite solar cells
PublicationTo achieve the highest performance using perovskite solar cells it is necessary to understand all the dominant mechanisms which affect the operation of solar cell. Here, we have investigated the bulk and interface trap–assisted recombination processes in the solar cells with p–i–n architecture. These studies are based on the numerical and experimental methods to get better understanding of these physical processes. The following results...

New conjugates of mycophenolic acid and their antiproliferative activity
PublicationThe new conjugates of mycophenolic acid (MPA) were obtained in the reaction of N6-(ω-aminoalkyl)adenosines with MPA in the presence of EDCI as a coupling reagent. New compounds 4a–h were evaluated on leukemia cell line (Jurkat) and PBMC from healthy donors. Length of the linker influenced observed activity. The compound 4b possessing 1,3-diamine spacer exhibited the most promising results and can be considered to further investigations.

Towards 5G — Cloud-based Radio Access Networks
PublicationIn the paper a general concept of the 5G network architecture is presented as well as system requirements having impact on innovative solutions in the 5G network are highlighted. A major part of the paper is both presentation and discussion of the problem of Cloud Radio Access Network introduction for public networks in which the cell and resource virtualisation will be implemented. On the other hand, the problem of resource virtualization...

Protonic Ceramic Fuel Cells as novel electrochemical devices
PublicationProton ceramic conductors are novel materials which are interesting from the application point of view. For example, Protonic Ceramic Fuel Cells (PCFCs) is a type of a solid oxide fuel cell, which uses proton ceramic conductors as an electrolyte. Scientists are looking for the most efficient materials for these devices. In recent years main focus has been put on the search for new proton and mixed proton-electron conductors which...

Crystal Structure of N-(2-Benzoyl-4,5-dimethoxyphenethyl)-2-phenylacetamide
PublicationThe crystal structure of N-(2-benzoyl-4,5-dimethoxyphenethyl)-2-phenylacetamide indicates that the compound crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/c space group with eight molecules in the unit cell. The heteroatoms from the amide group form a chain of intermolecular N-H ··· O hydrogen bonds propagating along the b axis. The carbonyl group from the benzoyl substituent participates in short contacts with two H-atoms from the ethyl or...

Spectroscopic Optical Coherence Tomography for Thin Layer and Foil Measurements
PublicationThe main goal of this research was to assess if it is possible to evaluate the thickness of thin layers (both thin films on the surface and thin layers below the surface of the tested object) and foils using optical coherence tomography (OCT) for thickness assessment under the resolution of the standard commercially available OCT measurement system. In the proposed solution, light backscattered from the evaluated thin layer has...

The microbial community, its biochemical potential, and the antimicrobial resistance of Enterococcus spp. in Arctic lakes under natural and anthropogenic impact (West Spitsbergen)
PublicationThe sustainable management of small human communities in the Arctic is challenging. In this study, both a water supply system (Lake 1) under the natural impact of a bird-nesting area, and a wastewater receiver (Lake 2) were analysed in the vicinity of the Polish Polar Station on West Spitsbergen. Microbial community composition, abundance and activity were assessed in samples of the treated wastewater, lake water and sediments...

Transcriptional profile of in vitro expanded human epidermal progenitor cells for the treatment of non-healing wounds
PublicationBackground Epidermal progenitor cells (EPCs) have been under extensive investigation due to their increasing potential of application in medicine and biotechnology. Cultured human EPCs are used in the treatment of chronic wounds and have recently became a target for gene therapy and toxicological studies. One of the challenges in EPCs culture is to provide a high number of undifferentiated, progenitor cells displaying high viability...
