Active dynamic thermography method for TRAM flap blood perfusion mapping in breast reconstruction
PublicationThis paper presents the new method of the transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous flap blood perfusion mapping based on the active dynamic thermography. The method is aimed at aiding a surgeon during breast reconstruction procedure. A pair of dTnorm and t90_10 parameters were used as parametric image descriptors of the flap blood perfusion. The method was tested on 38 patients that were subjected to breast reconstruction procedure....

Novel chalcone-derived pyrazoles as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer
PublicationLung cancer is considered to account for approximately one-fifth of all malignant tumor-related deaths worldwide and is therefore one of the most lethal malignancies. Pyrazole scaffold possesses a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities, which play important roles in medicinal chemistry. The present study reports the synthesis and in vitro biological characterization of nine pyrazoles derived from chalcones as potential...

Concentrations of alfa- and gamma- tocopherols in human breast milk during the first months of lactation and in infant formulas
PublicationThe aim of this study was to determine the concentrations of alpha- and gamma-tocopherols in human breast milk samples from different periods of lactation and to compare them with tocopherol content in commercially available formulas for infants at corresponding ages. The study included 93 breast milk samples obtained on the 2nd (colostrum, n=17), 14th (n=30), 30th (n=27) and 90th day of lactation (n=19), along with 90 samples...

New sample preparation strategies for comprehensive lipidomics of human breast milk
PublicationGLOBAL PROFILING ANALYSIS OF HUMAN BREAST MILK (HBM) LIPIDS IS HINDERED BY COMPLEX COMPOSITION OF HBM. THIS PROBLEM IS HUGE FROM ANALYTICAL POINT OF VIEW, SINCE DUE TO THAT DETECTION OF ALL HBM LIPIDS DURING ONE ANALYTICAL RUN IS LIMITED. THUS, SAMPLE PREPARATION STEP CONSTITUTES A CRUCIAL STEP IN UNTARGETED LIPIDOMIC ANALYSIS OF HBM, ESPECIALLY WHEN SEMI-QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS IS ASSUMED. HEREIN, WE PRESENT A COMPARISON OF PUBLISHED...

Monitoring of breast tissue thermo-ablation by means of impedance measurements
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące monitorowania jakości termoablacji zmian nowotworowych w piersi przy pomocy pomiarów impedancyjnych. Pokazano prototypowe konstrukcje sond do termoablacji jak również zaprezentowano wyniki symulacji i pierwszych eksperymentów. A usefulness of a developed probe combining power delivery to ablated breast tumour and simultaneous impedance measurements is discussed in the paper. It consists...

9,10-Dioxoanthracenyldithiocarbamates effectively inhibit the proliferation of non-small cell lung cancer by targeting multiple protein tyrosine kinases
PublicationAnthraquinones have attracted considerable interest in the realm of cancer treatment owing to their potent anticancer properties. This study evaluates the potential of a series of new anthraquinone derivatives as anticancer agents for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The compounds were subjected to a range of tests to assess their cytotoxic and apoptotic properties, ability to inhibit colony formation, pro-DNA damage functions,...

Modulation of CYP1A1, CYP1A2 and CYP1B1 expression by cabbage juices and indoles in human breast cell lines
PublicationEpidemiological studies have shown that consumption of cab- bage and sauerkraut is connected with significant reduction of breast cancer incidences. Estrogens are considered a major breast cancer risk factor and their metabolism by P450 enzymes substan- tially contributes to carcinogenic activity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cabbage and sauerkraut juices of differ- ent origin on the expression profile...

Segmentation-Based BI-RADS ensemble classification of breast tumours in ultrasound images
PublicationBackground: The development of computer-aided diagnosis systems in breast cancer imaging is exponential. Since 2016, 81 papers have described the automated segmentation of breast lesions in ultrasound images using arti- ficial intelligence. However, only two papers have dealt with complex BI-RADS classifications. Purpose: This study addresses the automatic classification of breast lesions into binary classes (benign vs. ma- lignant)...

Result of the 6-min walk test is an independent prognostic factor of surgically treated non-small-cell lung cancer
PublicationPathological tumour, node and metastasis (TNM) stage remains the most significant prognostic factor of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Meanwhile, age, gender, pulmonary function tests, the extent of surgical resection and the presence of concomitant diseases are commonly used to complete the prognostic profile of the patient with early stage of NSCLC. The aim of this study is to assess how the result of a 6-min walk test (6MWT)...

State of the art in sample preparation for human breast milk metabolomics—merits and limitations
PublicationHuman breast milk (HBM) contains metabolites that are diverse in chemical structure and concentration. These metabolites range from high-abundance to low-abundance compounds and from polar to nonpolar. This complex nature of HBM makes HBM samples difficult to analyze, especially in global metabolomic studies for the determination and characterization of complete sets of metabolites. In this review, the state of the art in sample...

Comparison of perforator location in dynamic and static thermographic imaging with Doppler ultrasound in breast reconstruction surgery
PublicationThis paper co mpares the effectiveness of the dTnorm and t90_10 parametrizations in dynamic thermography for imaging location of perforators in TRAM flaps in the intraoperative period. The results were compared with the location detected in a Doppler ultrasound examination. Cold and heat stimulation was used in dynamic thermography. Additionally, these results were compared with static...

Application of ion chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection for the determination of trace cyanide in biological samples, including breast milk
PublicationCyanide (CN) is the biomarker of exposure to the components of tobacco smoke, although its presence in biological samples is also due to the consumption of products containing cyanogenic glycosides. In this work, we determine the concentration of the free cyanide in urine, saliva and breast milk matrices, using ion chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (IC-PAD). IC-PAD is an emerging method, with only few documented...

Caffeine Inhibits Differentiation Of Lung Cancer Stem Cells By Modulating Their Respiratory Metabolism
PublicationIt is ell established that many tumor types contain a fraction of cells, with stem cell-like properties, called cancer stem cells (CSCs), that are resistant to apoptosis induced by therapeutic agents. The presence of CSCs may explain why a standard anticancer treatment, that eliminates only differentiated cancer cells, does not lead to cancer cure.We previously showed the existence of caffeine-sensitive mechanism that controls...

Interpretable deep learning approach for classification of breast cancer - a comparative analysis of multiple instance learning models
PublicationBreast cancer is the most frequent female cancer. Its early diagnosis increases the chances of a complete cure for the patient. Suitably designed deep learning algorithms can be an excellent tool for quick screening analysis and support radiologists and oncologists in diagnosing breast cancer. The design of a deep learning-based system for automated breast cancer diagnosis is not easy due to the lack of annotated data, especially...
