Sediment-quality assessment by intelligent data analysis

Facial emotion recognition using depth data
PublicationIn this paper an original approach is presented for facial expression and emotion recognition based only on depth channel from Microsoft Kinect sensor. The emotional user model contains nine emotions including the neutral one. The proposed recognition algorithm uses local movements detection within the face area in order to recognize actual facial expression. This approach has been validated on Facial Expressions and Emotions Database...

An EIT reconstruction algorithm based on noisy data.
PublicationPraca przedstawia algorytm rekonstrukcji oparty o zmodyfikowany algorytm Gaussa - Newtona. Algorytm uwzględnia istnienie elektrod pomiarowych w tomografii elektroimpedancyjnej. Elektrody charakteryzują się rozmiarem i impedancją. Dodatkowo algorytm zakłada istnienie szumu w sygnale mierzonym. Zostało pokazane, że dobór optymalnego wzorca pobudzenia znacząco poprawia odporność algorytmu rekonstrukcyjnego na szum w danych. Dwie...

Real terrain visualisation on the basis of GIS Data.
PublicationArtykuł prezentuje projekt realistycznej wizualizacji terenu rzeczywistego na podstawie danych pochodzšcych z Geograficznych Systemów Informacyjnych GIS (ang. Geographical Information Systems).

Blockchain based Secure Data Exchange between Cloud Networks and Smart Hand-held Devices for use in Smart Cities
PublicationIn relation to smart city planning and management, processing huge amounts of generated data and execution of non-lightweight cryptographic algorithms on resource constraint devices at disposal, is the primary focus of researchers today. To enable secure exchange of data between cloud networks and mobile devices, in particular smart hand held devices, this paper presents Blockchain based approach that disperses a public/free key...

MAPSERVER – INFORMATION FLOW MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE FOR THE BORDER GUARD DISTRIBUTED DATA EXCHANGE SYSTEM
PublicationIn this paper the architecture of the software designed for management of position and identification data of floating and flying objects in Maritime areas controlled by Polish Border Guard is presented. The software was designed for managing information stored in a distributed system with two variants of the software, one for a mobile device installed on a vessel, an airplane or a car and second for a central server. The details...

Efficiency Evaluation of High Performance Computing Systems Using Data Envelopment Analysis
PublicationThe paper presents an evaluation method of high performance computing (HPC) systems using multicriteria efficiency analysis. The Data Envelopment Analysis approach was applied and adapted to the specifics of HPC, which enabled us to compare relative efficiency of systems considering simultaneously multiple parameters. The analysis is based on the TOP500 list of world largest supercomputers and their parameters such as: the number...

Operational algae bloom detection in the Baltic Sea using GIS and AVHRR data
PublicationDuring the blooming season, algal colonies can, in extreme cases, cover up to 200 000 square kilometres of the Baltic Sea water surface. Because the position and shape of the blooms may significantly change in very short time due to the influence of wind and waves, regular monitoring of the blooms' development is necessary. Currently, the desired monitoring frequency may only be achieved by means of remote sensing. The article...

Atomic Force Microscope data post-processing algorithm for higher harmonics imaging
PublicationPrevious works have proved that higher harmonics topography imaging using atomic force microscope (AFM) can significantly enhanced its measurement capabilities. Integrated tools dedicated to most of microscopes allow to visualize the investigated surface only by one selected harmonic. Because of the different characteristics of a sample, scanning tip and the environment, appropriate harmonic selection is time consuming and requires...

Artificial intelligence and productivity: global evidence from AI patent and bibliometric data
PublicationIn this paper we analyse the relationship between technological innovation in the artificial intelligence (AI) domain and macroeconomic productivity. We embed recently released data on patents and publications related to AI in an augmented model of productivity growth, which we estimate for the OECD countries and compare to an extended sample including non-OECD countries. Our estimates provide evidence in favour of the modern productivity...

Preeclampsia Risk Prediction Using Machine Learning Methods Trained on Synthetic Data
PublicationThis paper describes a research study that investigates the use of machine learning algorithms on synthetic data to classify the risk of developing preeclampsia by pregnant women. Synthetic datasets were generated based on parameter distributions from three real patient studies. Four models were compared: XGBoost, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, and Explainable Boosting Machines (EBM). The study found that the XGBoost...

Adaptive system for recognition of sounds indicating threats to security of people and property employing parallel processing of audio data streams
PublicationA system for recognition of threatening acoustic events employing parallel processing on a supercomputing cluster is featured. The methods for detection, parameterization and classication of acoustic events are introduced. The recognition engine is based onthreshold-based detection with adaptive threshold and Support Vector Machine classifcation. Spectral, temporal and mel-frequency descriptors are used as signal features. The...

A Data Driven Model for Predicting RNA-Protein Interactions based on Gradient Boosting Machine
PublicationRNA protein interactions (RPI) play a pivotal role in the regulation of various biological processes. Experimental validation of RPI has been time-consuming, paving the way for computational prediction methods. The major limiting factor of these methods has been the accuracy and confidence of the predictions, and our in-house experiments show that they fail to accurately predict RPI involving short RNA sequences such as TERRA RNA....

A Multi Rig Screening Test for Thin Ceramic Coatings in Bio - Tribological Applications
PublicationA method is presented for the comparative testing of wear resistance of ceramic coatings made from materials potentially feasible in tribo - medical applications, mainly orthopaedic implants made from ceramics coated metals for low cost, long life and low wear particle emission into the body. The method was devised as the main tool for use in research and is comprised of flat on flat and ball on flat surface (sliding) tests. Seven...
