Magnetic flux leakage signals of near side defects measured with different velocities
Open Research DataThe dataset contains raw signals measured with the use of the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technique. Linear Hall effect sensors A1324 were used to measure magnetic flux leakage. Three voltage signals were measured: Bx sensor output, Bz1 sensor output, and difference of Bz1 and Bz2 outputs. An output of a Bx sensor was directly proportional to the tangential...

Voltage fluctuations on the main switchgear of the industrial power system supplying the rolling mill motors
Open Research DataThe dataset presents the voltage waveforms on the bus bars of the main switchgear of the industrial power network for the supply of rolling mills. The data was recorded during an experiment whose purpose was to determine a level of short-term and long-term flicker caused by voltage fluctuations. In the virtual application of flickermeter, a hardware...

Framework for Structural Health Monitoring of Steel Bridges by Computer Vision
PublicationThe monitoring of a structural condition of steel bridges is an important issue. Good condition of infrastructure facilities ensures the safety and economic well-being of society. At the same time, due to the continuous development, rising wealth of the society and socio-economic integration of countries, the number of infrastructural objects is growing. Therefore, there is a need to introduce an easy-to-use and relatively low-cost...

Modelowanie kratownicy z kształtowników giętych na zimno z mimośrodami dodatnimi w węźle = Modelling of truss with cold-formed section and positive eccentricyty in the node.
PublicationThe topic of this research is establishing load-carrying capacity of compressed and tensed chords of trusses made of cold-formed open cross-sections. Occurrence of bending in the truss’ chord is the result of specific production technology assumed by the designer and producer of lattice girder’s systems. The aim of this research is to present methodology of conduct while creating numerical models that best depict the behaviour...

Influence of nodes with positive eccentricity on load-carrying capasity of truss' top chords in trusses made of welded cold-formed members.
PublicationIn order to establish the influence of eccentric crossing of truss members on the load-carrying capacity of the folded chord of a hat-section truss, a research model was created and preliminary numerical analysis of the truss was performed with the use of Marc Mentat programme. Distorial instability of crossheads caused by deviation of loose (unmounted) channel section web’s bends was observed. Due to the slenderness of the section’s...

The influence of applying supplementary web plates on structural joint moment resistance and rotational stiffness
PublicationContinual trend to simplify structural elements and find less time-consuming solutions on construction site as well as inevitable increase in labour costs determine for instance elimination of those technological steps that are difficult to automation. Welding additional reinforcements and web stiffeners is a great example of such a step. The method presented in EN 1993-1-8 [8] is a result of long-term studies focused on calculating...

Thin-walled cross section shape influence on steel member resistance.
PublicationThis work describes why trending thin-walled technology is achieving popularity in steel construction sector. A purpose of this article is to present the influence of the cold-formed element cross-section shape on an axial compression and a bending moment resistance. The authors have considered four different shapes assuming constant section area and thickness. Calculations were based on three different steel grades taking into...

Application of Barkhausen effect in the impact assessment of welding to internal stress distribution in steel
PublicationThe paper presents identification method of internal stresses in plane steel elements in the chase of deliverance and welding assembly. The assessment was made by means of a non-destructive experimental method based on measurements incorporating local external magnetic field and the measurement of induced voltage, including Barkhausen noise. This method allows a degradation assessment due to internal and external actions, causing...

CLASSIFICATION OF RESTRAINTS IN THE OPTIMIZATION PROBLEM OF A COLD-FORMED PROFILE
PublicationThis work describes the restraints in the optimization problem. This is an important and complicated issue because it requires taking into account a vast range of information related to the design and production. In order to describe the relations of a specific optimization problem, it is essential to adopt appropriate criteria and to collect information on all kinds of restraints, i.e. boundary conditions. The following paper...

PublicationThis work is dedicated to establishing the load carrying capacity of tensed and compressed truss’ nodes made of cold-formed open cross sections. The occurrence of bending in the truss’ nodes is the result of a specific production technology for system lattice girders assumed by the designer and the producer. The aim of this research is to present the methodology of conduct for creation of computational models that best depict the...

Assessment of technical condition and repair of steel structure elements on the example of fire damage in a warehouse building
PublicationThe paper analyses a case study on the structural assessment of warehouse building partially damaged by fire caused by external source (fire of lorries close to the building). The authors focus on the site investigations and laboratory test results prior to assessing actual condition of the structural elements. Both strengthening concept and repair procedure of a steel column are addressed here. A short literature survey in the...

Influence of geometrical imperfections on stresses in cylindrical shells
PublicationResults of the numerical analysis of the shells of storage tanks of 50 000 m3 capacity with geometrical imperfections are presented in the paper. Results were verified by tensometric tests performed on the real tank. It was recognized that real geometrical imperfections cause increase of stresses in the tank construction by 30%.
